Its nowere else on her body , and her face looks slightly puffy, she has no other symptoms. Its strange how its just were it is , as I thought heat rash , but its really cool in here.

Could this be an allergic reaction , she had blakcurrant squash yesterday, something she never has.

I will give her some piriton, I just cant believe what this kid has been though and now theres something else , albeit only mild, shes been shoved with things for weeks and weeks.

it does sound like an allergic reaction, but maybe u could ring your gp for advice? is she ok in herself otherwise?

SpawnCorpses · 05/10/2007 09:22

Could it be rubella?

3littlebats · 05/10/2007 09:23

Consider the possibility of a reaction to shampoo, conditioner, soap, washing pwder, fabric softener, bedding esp. pillow. It sounds like a localised reaction to contact rather than systemic from something eaten or drunk.

melsy · 05/10/2007 09:29

It does look like that spawn , and it says it starts on the face 1st.

She is 4 however and did have the mmr.

The gp will probably say to come in and I wont see the duty gp , as I have a serious complaint with her over dd1 already. She has been quite neglectful.

The only thing different is my fabric softener, but It wont have been used on her linen as yet. Possibly the Pj's shes wearing. Which would then affect her body too?

Off to gp in an hour . I feel sick , as dd2 hasnt had her mmr yet and dont know what this is.

You are doing the right thing melsey. The only way to diagnose a rash is to look at it. We can all offer suggestions, but better to see GP if you are worried. Hope they sort it out.

melsy · 05/10/2007 10:42

I just cant believe it this morning , weve all been through so much .

If it is rubella, I wouldn't worry too much. It's a fairly mild illness IIRC.

melsy · 05/10/2007 19:15

Ok its not rubella, he said it cold be a viral rash but it seams to be pointing more to an allergy as she is itchy and her eyes are swollen. Two gp's took a look at her to confirm.

I can only think of the squash drink she had at soft play or something I dont even know of thats shes been eating and now suddenly become allergic to. She looks like shes burnt and bright red.

Shes on anti histamine 4 times daily and some calpol for a raspy chest , not bacterial infection this time though , but viral.

Ive phoned the soft play place for ingredients and its got some scary chemical stuff in it. They want me to go in and fill out an accident form so they can investigate further and see if any other soft plays in the group have had any mention of it.

Ive woken to find dd's face much mch more swollen , her eyes are like slits now and she has a temprature. Ive phoned Barndoc out of hours gp at the hosptial and Im waiting for call back. The Gp yesterdarday said that if it worsened and she got a temp she needs to be seen again.

Im really shitting msyelf and panicking & dh is just shouting at me. He didnt even give her the anti histamine that was prescribed this morning (I was in bed). He says Im overreacting but there is clearly something not right at all.

I feel sick with worry.

Should I really just be taking her to A&E ??????????????????????????????????????

MegaLegs · 06/10/2007 11:46

Oh melsey - sorry to hear this. You are not over reacting, your DH is being really unhelpful. Has she had the aniti histamine now. I would take her to A&E as it sounds like an allergic reaction - not sure about the temp though but it would put your mind at rest.

3littlebats · 06/10/2007 11:53

Yes. A&E.

belgo · 06/10/2007 11:54

yes go to A&E

belgo · 06/10/2007 11:55

dd1 face swelled up with sinusitis - it was scarey.

bubblagirl · 06/10/2007 12:05

i would say take straight to a and e no harm in doing so at least she can be checked properly and if all ok then good but if left and something wrong then you would feel bad for not taking her i always say any rash of any sort wether heat rash or not you cannot be too careful and as it has worsened they may be able to give something iv to work quicker good luck hope she is ok xx

3littlebats · 06/10/2007 12:06

And give her the antihistamine if you haven't given it already, and take it with you so you can show them at the hospital.

I expect your dh is shouting at you because he knows he should have given her the antihistamine IYSWIM.

I have to go out now, I hope she gets better soon. Allergic reactions can be frightening.

melsy · 06/10/2007 12:21

just got off phone from barndoc , theyve said A&E as she has to many symtpoms , she made need a shot of a much much stronger anti histamine. Ive phoned my parents who are coming with , Im in a right state myself.

Dd1 just wants to eat 1st bless her little thing.

hope she's ok melsey - thinking of you.

belgo · 06/10/2007 12:34

yes let us know when you get back, I'm sure she'll be fine once they've treated her

belgo · 06/10/2007 18:43

how is she now, Melsy?

melsy · 06/10/2007 19:58

Got back from hospital about an hour ago , spent 2 hrs waiting to be seen by triage , it was a madhouse there. Got taken straight into kids A&E , as she had a raging fever by that time. They applied emla cream and labels , made her do an urine sample.

It then it took another while to be seen by the paed , who asked me 20 trillion questions about everything thats been going, told me off for using medical terms (this happens everywhere, I think its due toi mumsnet, too many hosptial stays and google!!!) , although she was much much more understanding after I explained whats been going on the last few weeks. They did an ear exam and she screamed out and then went crazy hysterical and none of us could calm her down , in any way shape or form. This went on for ages , but they still needed to do more examinations , so we got admitted to the ward for overnight stay, as they were very concerned with the combo of temp , swollen face , rash and raspy chesty cough.

We finally got seen by another pead who within a few minutes of simple examinations and a much calmer ish dd1 , diagnosed very acute ear infection coupled with viral chest infection. They are putting the swelling and rash down to this combination, although Im still concerned about it as she looks so altered. Im also concerned as this is her 4th infection in 4 weeks , but have sent her home now with antibiotics.

I will probably phone the paediatrician she is being seen by for all the other things (see various threads !!!) as he has been concerned for her immunity due to extremely enlarged tonsils.

Dd1 has been soo relieved to be coming home (wasjumping up and down !!!!) , as shes just a mess when in the hospital, however mummy could quite happily be admitted herself just to get off the merry go round for a few days !

poor little thing - and poor you. hope you all get some rest and she's feeling better in the morning.

belgo · 07/10/2007 09:21

gosh it sounds horrible melsy. I hope she's a bit better this morning, and you managed to get some rest as well.

melsy · 07/10/2007 12:10

Thankfully dh made dinner and put them both to bed. I fell on to our floor cushion and promptly didnt move for about 2hrs ! Im not feeling to great myself , aching everywhere and coldy, mad night of horrid dreams also. The last one was me and my girls on the top of a double decker bus with no driver careening into an oncoming train . I know it must be a symptom of my current state of anxiety, but I nearly screamed in my sleep.

Dd1s rash hs now spread all over, inside her legs , arms & more of her torso and shes scratching all over. I was told not to give her piriton anymore , but Im wondering if it may help with the itching. Her swelling on her face has come dwon a bit ,but she still looks different. She is however in good spirits and has been singing and playing drums , so at least shes not miserable , unlike me!

We cancelled her going to friends parties though , as I dotn think its fair on other kids , babies and mums , who might pick this weird thing up. I would be mortified to find any other child in this condition. We may go to my mil fro tea later to get out, as mil wont hear of us cancelling that !!
