Weird lump on tongue

Animum2 · 16/08/2020 21:37

Currently my doctors are not seeing people but are doing an online consultation where we take pictures and describe the symptoms, so far had 1 call back saying they are not sure what it is but don't think it's anything serious but to keep taking pictures and sending to them for another 2 weeks

So for roughly 3 weeks I've had a lump on my tongue, it's white and occasionally will bleed but it doesn't hurt and is not causing pain, is just a little irritating as I find myself chewing in it, the picture doesn't really show what it looks like in r/l though

Bloody hell bumping for you, looks scary!

AriettyHomily · 16/08/2020 22:14

I'd want a face to face for that to be honest.

AriettyHomily · 16/08/2020 22:15

Google suggests a canker sore

Starlightstarbright1 · 16/08/2020 22:19

i don't want to worry you but sounds similar to my neighbour and it was cancer - although i never saw lump. I would ask for a face to face or second opinion

macdhui · 16/08/2020 22:20

I would definitely be getting a face to face consult

hastingsmua1 · 16/08/2020 22:23

This is something your dentist can also help with! They’re probably better with tongue issues than drs tbh, worth asking them for their opinion

I don’t know what it is, the photo isn’t great as it’s focused on your face so your tongue is blurry

candle18 · 16/08/2020 23:44

Make an appointment at your dentist, they should be able to see you now.

Animum2 · 17/08/2020 20:15

So after sending another pic to the docs over the weekend, they sent me a message to say they are referring me to hospital for a biopsy, not sure when this will be though

Starlightstarbright1 · 17/08/2020 21:00

This is a positive step, hopefully will find out what it is.

Animum2 · 18/08/2020 20:47

So I have a hospital appointment for Wednesday next week

OP posts:
Animum2 · 26/08/2020 19:45

Had appointment but they were unable to say what it is, a MRI appointment will be arranged and they will go from there

Hope all ok Op.

My son had something that looked similar. His was a saliva gland that got blocked and kept filling up (was on the inside of his lip). He had it cut off once. It came back after some months. Then popped (🤮) and hasn't returned yet - it's been a few years now. Hope yours turns out to be as simple as that.

Animum2 · 29/08/2020 18:34

So I have a MRI booked in for Friday and they've said they will get the results within 5 days, the doctor thinks there is some sort of root attached to the lump so a decision will be made whether to freeze it off depending on the depth of it or do general anaesthetic, either way I just want it gone now

Nat6999 · 29/08/2020 18:38

I had a MRI for something else & the consultant rang me with 2 hours afterwards with the results, got a further one on Monday.

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 29/08/2020 18:48

Have you been pregnant recently OP? There is a type of growth that is caused by pregnancy hormones which I forget the name of, it could be that.
I'm glad you have got a referral as I agree it needs checking out, hopefully unlikely to be anything suspect but just in case, it does need a biopsy to rule out mouth cancer etc.

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 29/08/2020 18:50

Pyogenic granulomais what I think it might be called possibly

Animum2 · 29/08/2020 21:05

@sunintheskyyouknowhowifeel

Hi

I've not been pregnant at all but I just googled the suggestion and it's very similar to what I have, though some images are very extreme to what I have so if it is what is described (ie a benign tumour) then that's something to not worry about and I will mention it to the docs when I have the MRI

Thank you

Not much to report, lump still there but today I had the MRI scan (My 1st one) so hopefully will get the results by end of next week and a decision on what they will do

OP posts:
SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 04/09/2020 20:12

Good you got the MRI done, hopefully they will come up with a plan and let you know soon, must be very annoying having it in your mouth, as well as the worry

Animum2 · 04/09/2020 21:13

Yeah it's annoying and also I've noticed that certain food and drink set it off and make it go all tingly, so I'm avoiding those at the moment

Halfway through the procedure they injected due into a vein and about a minute later I felt myself breathing heavily but not for long

They did say that it could take some time for the dye to work it's way out of me, it's been 6 hours and I had to have a nap and I felt like I had a very small hangover when I woke up!

OP posts:
Animum2 · 04/09/2020 21:14

That should be dye not due!

So the hospital phoned me today and they have arranged for me to go in tomorrow and have the lump removed under local anaesthetic, I'm assuming it's being removed the receptionist couldn't give me any info and said I would be told tomorrow

OP posts:
Animum2 · 16/09/2020 18:25

So I had the lump removed today, was a very unpleasant experience especially when they number the tongue with a disgusting spray and then the injections Shock I have 3 stitches and a sore mouth now but at least it's gone and I will find out in 7 days what it is

For now i can't eat hot foods so ice cream will do for now once I can swallow!
