Did the hossie discharge you with any anti Bs, Yorkie?

3Ddonut · 23/09/2007 19:53

middling to good....sorry! Are you feverish? How long has it been going on for? If you suspect an infection, see you GP ASAP, best to nip these things in the bud. Were you advised to gargle salt water or anything? (don't try it if they haven't suggested it)

I guess it would pong anyway for a bit whilst it heals. But I got an infection when had mine out (at 23) - think it's pretty common

3Ddonut · 23/09/2007 19:58

Your GP would prescribe tramadol if they thought it necessary but it's pretty strong stuff (one level below morphine IMO) if you get hot, take paracetamol, but not if you're also taking co-codamol as that contains a full dose of paracetamol, are you taking it regularly?

I think Tramadol is still classed as a controlled drug so your GP may not be keen to prescribe it so far post-op. Depemds on the GP.

Is the Cocodamol helping at all? The paracetamol will bring down your temperature but you do need to find out why you have the temp in the first place, IYSWIM.

I'd phone the hospital tomorrow.

Tramadol isn't a controlled drug but it is strong, are your co-codamol 8/500mg or 30/500mg? it's the mix of codeine 8 or 30mg and paracetamol 500mg per tab, so if you're on the 8/500's you can increase to 30/500's but will need a prescription, if your on 30/500's you may not notice much of a change with tramadol, are you not able to take ibuprofen? you mention not taking diclofenac....

3Ddonut · 23/09/2007 20:08

sorry Yorkie x post, have you tried distraction therapies? there's not a lot else you can do tonight....

you could but it's not generally done, tramadol is usually an instead of rather than an aswell as... I think if you're getting that much pain, you need to find the underlying cause, has it got worse? I think you need to see your GP first thing in the morning.

debbsyandsonn · 23/09/2007 20:13

yg gargle with soluble asprin do not swallow though if you are allergic to ibuprofen.Hope you feel better soon.Tramadolbby the way is no where near in the class of a controlled drug, trust me its my job.

3Ddonut · 23/09/2007 20:13

the only thing I can suggest is getting two different tabs from Dr, codiene 30mg and paracetamol tabs and alternate them, 2 hours apart and try to space it out a little, it may or may not work....

3Ddonut · 23/09/2007 20:15

debby what's your job? It's my experience that once tramadol is no longer effective the next step is morphine, hence my oppinion that 'it's one step below' also doesn't 100mg tramadol compare to a low dose MST such as 10mg or 5mg???

dissle · 23/09/2007 20:15

what about some of that gargle stuff with antiseptic and local aneasthetic...

ooohh there awere also some like sweets aound thta had a bit of local aneasthetic in...what were they called, do you remember them?

3Ddonut · 23/09/2007 20:16

sorry just re-read that hope it doesn't sound arsey, just wondering if I'm right?

3Ddonut · 23/09/2007 20:17

dissle · 23/09/2007 20:17

What about diclofenac?

3Ddonut · 23/09/2007 20:17

step sils???? you know what I mean!

dissle · 23/09/2007 20:18

no, wasnt strepsils, cant remember....

3Ddonut · 23/09/2007 20:18

no not no difference just minimal IME.... diclofenac is a different group of drugs and has a different effect (anti-inflammatory) but YG is allergic to it so it's a no no.

dissle · 23/09/2007 20:19
