Pea-sized lump appeared on labia

Morning,

I've posted on General health too.

I was inserting a tampon last night and noticed a pea-sized lump on my inner labia, near the entrance to my vagina. It is soft-ish and can be moved between my fingers. It's a bit tender to the touch. When I looked, it's a shiny, round, pinky-red lump, no head. It's less than 1cm across. It seems to have appeared out of nowhere.

I've googled Bartholin's cyst and I suppose it could be that although it sort of sits proud of the skin surface and, as I said, can be pinched and moved inside the skin on the labia.

I don't want to dash off to the GP, though I will if it doesn't go.

Any thoughts on what it might be please?

I think I saw that webpage earlier during my googling session!

Oh sorry i knew you could google but everything i wanted to say was there more succinctly already so i posted it instead of copy pasting or waffling on (like now haha) Hope all turns out ok.

@ Lorrainebelly, thanks! It is really helpful to have it all in one place!

Don't panic! It's really likely to boringly just be a spot

mrsbyers · 14/05/2020 22:34

I’ve had one for years , I’ve asked about it a few times and always tell me it’s quite normal and just a cyst

FourPlasticRings · 14/05/2020 22:36

Boil?

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 14/05/2020 22:44

No pics?

SummerBreeze20 · 14/05/2020 22:59

Oh my gosh, I could have written this post!
I discovered the exact same lump in the same location last night (I noticed it was sore when I wiped). I was immediately worrying it would mean a visit to the GP, but I am planning to see what I can do at home first.
I went to bed and looked it up online (I, too, think it is a Bartholin’s cyst.
I sat in a bath of hot water (as hot as I could tolerate) this afternoon, and I think it is a little smaller. I plan to do this a few times every day, and (hopefully!) it was go away Smile.

I had one in my teens. Many, many years ago. It just went away.

NaomiFromMilkShake · 15/05/2020 02:35

Hot hot bath, hard squeeze, it should just pop, repeat as required for at least a week.

Yes, no sexual activity or herpes. Just disappeared!

ElizabethMainwaring · 15/05/2020 02:48

Sorry. It just did. I was a virgin. I'm not sure why you have got the hump about my comment.

SciFiWoman · 15/05/2020 03:03

I had one in my late teens... I was scared to death!! A read of the medical books (no internet then!) told me it was a Bartholins cyst and needs a good hot soak... followed by a grit-your-teeth squeeze😳
It was very sore when I walked so the next day, I had the hot bath and did the deed... It wasn’t too bad or painful to be honest, it emptied out then and for a couple of days after, but settled down and I’ve never had a problem since. That must be 35 odd years ago! The hot bath seems to do the trick, so to speak!
Be brave Op!! X

FelicityBeedle · 15/05/2020 03:16

I get them quite frequently, I try the hot bath method but they’re so painful I occasionally resort to the sterile pin. The relief is wonderful

whatsthatnow74 · 15/05/2020 11:09

Thanks all!
I haven't tried the hot bath/squeeze yet but will have a go later. It doesn't have a head on it but otherwise does feel as though it might be burstable!
I'm pretty confident it's not HPV @ Sakuse, but thanks for your input.
I must say I'm not too worried about it now...

Everything I’ve read about them strongly advise against squeezing it. By doing that, you can spread the infection further internally, potentially causing more issues.
I hope you don’t think I’m nagging (this is coming from someone who is always being nagged for squeezing spots/books etc Grin!)

SummerBreeze20 · 15/05/2020 23:43

boils, not books 😳!

StellaDelMare · 15/05/2020 23:56

I get one small lump on my outer labia probably monthly or every other month and it always appears at a different side each time. I never know whether they are from shaving or if they're hormonal but they come and go! Often they're sore to touch.
I think if it was anything sinister it would be something that appears and doesn't go away so I wouldn't worry too much, probably a cyst!

whatsthatnow74 · 16/05/2020 11:23

@summerbreeze20. No, I don’t think you’re nagging! I’m not keen on squeezing it as it doesn’t have a head, might try and soften it though (though it’s already very soft/squishy)

SummerBreeze20 · 16/05/2020 20:26

whatsthatnow74 how is it today?

RyanBergarasTeeth · 16/05/2020 20:31

Sounds like a cyst i get them a lot. Boil a kettle and dip in a flannel wait a minute or so until its really hot but not enough to scold and place it on there a few times a day. That really helps when i get them and they dont have a head. Eventually after a day or 2 they pop and the relief is immense.

whatsthatnow74 · 17/05/2020 12:12

@SummerBreeze20 it’s the same still. I had a really hot bath yesterday evening but didn’t try to pop it. I might try the really hot flannel that instead as I can’t be in and out of the bath several times a day 😂
It’s very soft and and sort of at the edge of the labia so if I pinch the labia between my fingers, I pinch the lump too. It’s moveable under the skin and doesn’t seem to be attached anywhere. I’m sure it’s some sort of small cyst.
My plan is to leave it and see what happens. I don’t really want an unnecessary trip to the GP at the moment so I’ll give it a few weeks.
