Hair stuck in tonsil making me gag

Chmorgs · 02/05/2020 05:12

2 nights ago I accidentally gargled some water with a long hair in which has now got stuck in my tonsil. This keeps making me gag intermittently. I’ve tried dry bread and fizzy water but neither have helped. GP suggested if it’s not better by Monday to get a nasal endoscopy but I’m terrified due to the corona risk. Please help.

Rough toast?

footprintsintheslow · 02/05/2020 05:47

I've had this and I had to hook it off myself with the use of my tongue and fingers. There was a lot of gagging.

Chmorgs · 02/05/2020 07:03

Tried it Sad

How many days did it take for you to get rid of it?

Can you try with a cotton bud if it is wet the end might stick to it?

ohthepigeons · 02/05/2020 07:10

Could you try some tweezers? I had a fish bone stuck in the flesh at the back of my throat once and tweezers got it out. Good luck op.

If you do have to go to hospital you will most likely be in and out very quickly and they are cleaner than ever. The area you go to won't be used by corona patients so you will be fine.

Chmorgs · 02/05/2020 07:31

@SpillTheTeaa cause my hair is blonde it’s very tricky to see where it is stuck. All I know is it keeps rubbing against my tonsil when I eat or drink and it’s making me so anxious

@ohthepigeons really struggling to see where it actually is in my tonsil. It’s very hard to get a good view. My stomach is so sore from the gagging. Dreading another day of it.

Could you try gargling again?

Chmorgs · 02/05/2020 07:40

@Kissmycousinkate I’ll give it a go but even cleaning my teeth is making me gag now so god knows if I’ll manage it without throwing up. I also have emetaphobia so this is really quite traumatising for me.

UPDATE: so I got up this morning managed to clean my teeth and my tongue briefly. Ate my single slice of white toast in hope the hair would vanish. It didn’t. I decided to use a syringe filled with water and aim it at my tonsil. The hair feeling subsided for a little and now it’s back again 💀 I’m so fed up.

Oh no. Do you have a brush like the tepe compact brush? If you do you could try and lightly brush that against your tonsil. It will make you gag though

SpillTheTeaa · 02/05/2020 19:23

*compact tuft brush

Remmy123 · 02/05/2020 20:03

Are you sure it's actually a hair?

Dontsayyouloveme · 02/05/2020 23:19

Have you tried a fizzy drink? Just wondering if the bubbles might attach to the hair and carry it away!

VimFuego101 · 02/05/2020 23:20

Do you think a waterpik might be able to dislodge it?

Lavenderpurple · 02/05/2020 23:25

Sounds odd and may make you gag more but could you sort of brush your tooth brush near it, the bristles night grab it.
Sounds awful though.

IGottaGetOuttaThisPlace · 02/05/2020 23:41

Could it be a scratch rather than a hair there now?

PeachesPlumsPears · 03/05/2020 02:24

Boiled cabbage worked for me when I ate a fish bone. Swallowed a big mouthful and it dislodged the bone and swept it up and down.

Chmorgs · 03/05/2020 04:54

@SpillTheTeaa I don’t know whether I’d be able to tolerate that without my gag reflex kicking off

OP posts:
Chmorgs · 03/05/2020 04:55

@Remmy123 I can’t think it could be anything else, all I can remember was partly seeing the hair in my glass just before I swallowed it

OP posts:
Chmorgs · 03/05/2020 04:56

@Dontsayyouloveme I’ve tried fizzy water. Hasn’t made any difference Sad did try gargling with it a fair bit

OP posts:
Chmorgs · 03/05/2020 04:58

@VimFuego101 I tried to use a syringe with water and squirted it all around the tonsil but obviously my tongue automatically tried to protect my throat. I was thinking about a Waterpik just wondering how safe it is to use on my tonsils. It only has 2 settings.

OP posts:
Chmorgs · 03/05/2020 05:00

@Lavenderpurple I don’t think I could brush my toothbrush over the tonsil. It feels horrific. Hardly been able to eat anything because of it.

OP posts:
Chmorgs · 03/05/2020 05:01

@IGottaGetOuttaThisPlace I don’t know how a hair could scratch a tonsil though...
