DH's chemotherapy day, pissed off

They told us 10.00.

He went in for treatment at 14.50, near,y a 5 hour wait.

The reason, they told us 10.00, but booked him in for 14.30!

I can't blame the girls, they are kind and sweet and overworked and underappreciated.

But the systems they run suck!

In the end he felt so sick that he walked out before he had his treatment.....he has had alomst 30 rounds of treatment now and pavlovian coditioning means that even being in the hospital makes him feel sick. And waiting for 5 hours was just more than he could cope with. And he is so brave....remember he is a fighter pilot by training and has seen active service 3 times.

This was just more than he could stand, poor love.

Oh shit, how utterly awful and unnecessary. I know what you mean, I'm sure they are overworked, but really. I am so sorry.

Oh poor thing - that is awful. I work in the NHS, and you are right, the management systems are very inefficient sometimes. I am so sorry you both had to endure that.

MB, so sorry that you have had such a shitty day. I have no words of wisdom, I just didn;t want to pass this by as I rmeember what it was like when I took my dad for chemo and radio.

It is a bastard fucking disease.

Oh, and they lost his prescription for his chemo tablets and it took over an hour to sort that.

Aarrgh how bloody frustrating. Poor Mr MB, as if he hasn't got enough to cope with without being messed around. And the being sick at merely being in hospital sounds shit, too.

It is just hard to see someone you love in such a state because someone made a mistake.

And to compound it, when he came in, saying, 'I'm here for my 10 o'clock appointment', the receptionist didn't bother to tell him that he wasn't down until 2.30!

Had we known, I'd have taken him home!

I wasn't there for part of the 5 hours, as I had to dash to my school to teach. I was horrified to find that, all that time later, he still hadn't had his treatment

This is the last eek of his 9th month of treatment, so it is his 27th infusion

That is awful, poor Mr MB and you too. Just so not right.

Have been at the sticky end of hospital appointments many items enduring hours of waiting, but never under such stressful circumstances.

I know the NHS is fab etc but really, the organisation is a dog's breakfast.

Had I been there (and not teaching year 7) I would have asked what was happeneing. DH is such a stoic he doesn't do that sort of thing.
