Mouth ulcer bastards!

Since dd was born 6 months ago I have been getting more frequent mouth ulcers. I have at least 2 at any time. I currently have 5 of them. 2 on my tongue. I'm waiting for blood results to see what's up. Does anyone have any recommendations for relief in the meantime? I'm going crazy. I can't eat and can hardly talk.

Igloo from Boots. Expensive but fabulous x

Baloonphobia · 27/11/2019 21:11

Haven't tried that. Must get some tomorrow. I'm gone waay past bothering about expense. I'm not spending anything on food anyway Wink.

The orthodontist told me swilling my mouth with chamomile tea should help. And it did

Baloonphobia · 27/11/2019 21:15

I have some chamomile tea in the press. Should it be cold?

Tepid regular tea with milk is the only thing I seem to be able to drink pain-free.

Liquid anbesol? Also fab for teething babes

whatsinthebagwhatcoulditbe · 27/11/2019 21:17

Igloo is amazing stuff. The relief is instant.

Nospringchickendipper · 27/11/2019 21:18

I've found Igloo is the only thing that works for me and I get frequent mouth ulcers. I can't believe anything so small can be so painfulSmile

bornonasunday · 27/11/2019 21:18

Another vote for Igloo here! Odd consistency but it sticks to the ulcer better than Bonjela, and does seem to help. Warm salt water is a dentists favourite for sore mouths, too

carrots555 · 27/11/2019 21:22

Hold a match head to the ulcer, unlit is fine or you can light it and blow it out.
It will sting but watch the white stuff go grey, then black, then come off on the match.
Fun...

Folic acid - I double dose

needmoresleep1 · 27/11/2019 21:23

Difflam mouthwash is amazing!

HappyHedgehog247 · 27/11/2019 21:25

Folic acid for prevention. Big dose, daily.

Baloonphobia · 27/11/2019 21:26

Don't think I'm brave enough to try the match thing!

OP posts:
Baloonphobia · 27/11/2019 21:27

Interesting to hear the folic acid advice. Usually I can manage them with big doses of vit b but it's not working this time. Doc thinks I must have a major deficiency of something.

Corsodyl mouth wash. I suffer from loads of ulcers (thanks to IBD!) and that helps. Can't use it too often though as it can stain your teeth.

Baloonphobia · 27/11/2019 21:30

Doc gave me corsodyl, prescribed an antiviral and told me to take magnesium and zinc.

No advice but will be interested to here what your blood results say, I have got lots of ulcers in the last few months , my daughter was born a year ago and while I was pregnant had low vitamin b12 and had b12 injections advised by my consultant but never offered them again after I gave birth and now wonder if my levels are dropping again as it's been a while since last injections.

Hope you can resolve yours soon!

MadamNoo · 27/11/2019 21:36

I have tried every remedy mentioned and more.. was waiting for a referral to the dental hospital but my ulcers have completely gone since I started taking daily B12 and iron. This was after apparently negative bloods. I am so happy after years of battling them! Honestly start right away in case it helps. (I still use an sls-free toothpaste (corsodyl) too in case as I think that can be a factor.

beminetonight · 27/11/2019 21:36

At a guess you may be deficient in vitamins - very likely due to being a new mum of a small baby. Have you been tested for STDs to rule out an outbreak?

slowco4ch · 27/11/2019 21:37

I stopped using toothpaste with SLS such as some Sensodyne toothpaste but read the label. Total game changer for me! Corsodyl mouthwash in the meantime to get rid of current ulcers.

Baloonphobia · 27/11/2019 21:39

Not tested for STDs, it never occurred to me but I'll consider it now. Good idea to get checked in any case.
I'm taking a vit b supplement plus iron, a multivitamin and prebiotics.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/11/2019 21:49

I was advised to take B12 for ulcers, also folic acid.

Whiteroverbaby · 27/11/2019 21:55

Maybe you're low in B12. I feel for you mouth ulcers are horrible

Baloonphobia · 27/11/2019 22:00

I wonder if I'm not absorbing the b vit supplement I'm taking or if I'm so low it's not working. It usually does. Bloody kids Grin.
