Flu vaccine side effects...

Had my flu vaccine on Tuesday, had a bit of a sore throat and tight chest all week. Saturday morning woke up feeling sick, really sore throat, high temperature and could hardly move. Was in bed all day. Don’t think I’ve ever felt so bad. Today I have been a bit better, temperature has gone and haven’t eaten all day but just had dinner as now feel sick.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar?

No just my arm being a little sore. The flu vaccine contains inactivated flu viruses so it cannot give you flu. You were probably exposed to it before the jab which takes a couple of weeks to give you immunity. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I didn't have any side effects at all

Most years I have nothing. The odd time I have 12 hours or so of feeling feverish and achy the evening of the vaccine, and then nothing comes of it. Not a big deal.

I suspect you just caught a dose around the same time you had the vaccine.

Sounds like you've caught a coincidence that you've caught a virus at the same time as the flu jab. Achiness and a slight fever can be a rare side effect of the jab, but what you're describing sounds much worse.
I have the jab every year and get nothing worse than a sore arm.

Hi OP, I had the same as you, was poorly for a week, hopefully you'll feel better in a few days.

Zero effects after my flu jab the other day. Didn't even really hurt (must have done it wrong...)

I developed Bell’s Palsy after getting the flu jab! I’m convinced it is related as it is brought on by a virus and I wasn’t ill in the weeks/months prior to getting it! Cleared up within 4weeks, thank goodness

Thanks all. Just seemed very strange I was so ill yesterday. I do work in a preschool though with a lot of colds coughs sickness etc

The injected vaccination is not a live one. It can’t give you flu. It’s a coincidence.

I get the vaccine because I’m immunocompromised and have asthma. Flu could well kill me. It can’t give me flu as it’s not a live vaccine.
They don’t generally test things on pregnant women. That’s why.
Do you have any actual evidence it gives people Bells Palsy or guillain barre syndrome? (I know someone who had the vaccine and got Bells Palsy is not evidence.)

I presume people have it because flu can and does kill people.

My arm was a bit sorend9e a couple of days but that's all. The person who gave the vaccine said its no longer a life vaccine so you shouldn't get any symptoms. It sounds as though you have picked up a virus rather than related to the vaccine.

No, I leave the scare mongering to the pharmaceutical companies which are selling the flu vaccine.

@BlueGingerale are you fucking serious? Have you never heard of the 1918 flu epidemic? Of course people have always been scared of flu. The problem is, people use the word flu when they have a cold. They are not the same thing (I've just been really ill for weeks with actual flu). WISH I'd had the vaccine in time this year.

Oh dear. I imagine the 20 to 50 million people who died of Spanish flu in 1918 might have been a bit alarmed, yes.

I get my flu jab free as I'm a carer but when I wasn't a carer I paid for it. I'm terrified of the flu.

Yes! I had mine done at work (at a GP practice) at about 2pm and skipped off home, by 5pm I felt dreadful. Hot/cold feverish, headache, achey etc, with an extremely painful and swollen injection site. Didn't get much sleep that night, fever gone next day but felt so shocking I spent my day off on the sofa.
I'm never I'll.
Obviously will continue to toe the party line at work and and encourage everyone to have it done but seriously contemplating whether to do it next year. It's always made me feel a bit ropey the next day, hence why I chose to have it before my day off, but never to that extent.
My nurse colleagues sympathised.
