Flu vaccine side effects...

Hi
Had my flu vaccine on Tuesday, had a bit of a sore throat and tight chest all week. Saturday morning woke up feeling sick, really sore throat, high temperature and could hardly move. Was in bed all day. Don’t think I’ve ever felt so bad. Today I have been a bit better, temperature has gone and haven’t eaten all day but just had dinner as now feel sick.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar?

Oh I see @BlueGingerale is a committed anti vaxxer. No point arguing with stupid 😂

Does anybody ever read the package insert... Flu like symptoms... Oh well that will be like a dose of the flu then. Get well soon op.

RebeccaCloud9 · 24/11/2019 22:52

@WickedWitchOfTheDesk that sounds horrid, but it definitely doesn't sound as bad as being at least that poorly for at least a week, which is how you'd feel if you did get flu!

GeorgiaGirl52 · 24/11/2019 23:15

Every year for the past 10 years every woman and child in our family got the flu vaccine with no side effects. The two big brave men scared of needles in our family , did not. Guess who got flu 8 out of 10 years, missed a week off work and had to be nursed babied and pampered by the healthy women. This year both men are getting flu jabs!

The reason a lot of people feel ropey after it is because the vaccine causes your body to start producing antibodies to fight the illness. Your system is sort of practicing how it will fight an invasion of flu.

I’m sure I’ve explained that really badly and medical professionals will be rolling their eyes. I know what I mean!

You can get GBS from any infection. Bacterial or viral.
GBS follows from severe infections.
So something that prevents severe infections, greatly lowers risk of getting Guillain Barre Syndrome.

I do remember influenza I. E The Flu being big in Enid Blyton novels so it's obviously not a new thing..

I had my shot at weekend, arm has been sore

Flower777 · 25/11/2019 01:58

I had a sore armpit after mine which I assume was a gland? I also felt a bit crap for. Couple of days

HoldMyLobster · 25/11/2019 02:25

Do you remember as a child - before the vaccine was invented - anyone being scared of flu?

Yes I was scared of flu. One of my friends died of it.

Sorry you've been ill OP. Most of my family have been ill this week too. We had our flu shots over a month ago.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 25/11/2019 02:33

Once in the past ten years, spent the next day in bed with no energy. If it was connected, it was a price worth paying. I will never miss a flu jab because I have a serious heart condition, flu would kill me. Thank you doctors, medicine and science.

'Flu-like symptoms' is not the same as having the flu. It's having a few of the symptoms for a few days and then feeling better again. It's not affecting your entire body the same way that the flu virus does. I'd much rather feel slightly grotty for a few days than have the flu. I had it once, I was in bed for a week. My extended family all went on holiday together. I was 13 or 14 and on the end they left me in the apartment while they went out because I just couldn't do anything. Worst holiday ever! I've never had anything like it since.

OP it sounds like you were just unlucky and caught a bug just before having the jab.l, especially if there's been things going around at work. I hope you feel better soon

madcatladyforever · 25/11/2019 05:53

Never any side effects here. Of course you can get a cold at the same time as you have the jab but one is nothing to do with the other.

IvinghoeBeacon · 25/11/2019 06:00

I don’t think the OP suggested she did have flu as a result of the vaccine, why are people saying she is? We all know it’s not live. Some people do experience flu-like symptoms, as per the packaging. I haven’t before but I did this time (mild fever, had to go to bed as I’m pregnant and it wiped me out, gone the following day). It certainly wasn’t anything like flu but i am fairly sure it was a reaction to the vaccine rather than a virus picked up somewhere else. It wasn’t a big deal and wouldn’t stop me having the vaccine again

My friend - healthy male aged 26 - died of flu twenty years ago. He was at home in his mum’s living room.
