Well today I am actually quite worried about him. The pain started off in his groin on Friday, by last night he could hardly walk and he said the pain is into his hip - he had a terrible night, in pain every time he moved in bed. He has come in from work with tears in his eyes with the pain! and can hardly walk, he says he almsot crashed coming home becasue he couldn't get hie foot on the brake becasue of the pain
. He says its all round his groin hip area, and down into his leg and knee. He couldn't get into docs today, hoping to do so tomorrow! He is also shivering really badly and feels really cold and clammy as well.

Why doesn't he go to A&E? If the pain is that bad he needs to be seen by someone I would think. If you're not sure, call NHS Direct and ask their - but it sounds to me as if he needs medical help more quickly than tomorrow.

GooseyLoosey · 20/08/2007 18:51

Think I might consider A&E too if he is that ill. RIng NHS direct and see what they suggest.

NannyL · 20/08/2007 18:52

my 12 year old ex charge had those exact symtoms... (started off as a pain in the hip but got worse and worse)

it ended up being osteomyalitus ... (a bacterial infection of the bone) as soon as they found out he was straight into hospital and spent a week in hopsital on IV antibiotics.

They were very worried cause apparently it could have spread to his heart or blood and killed him.

Seriously id call NHS direct or go to A&E... it was serious for my 12 year old excharge

saltire · 20/08/2007 18:52

BIWI - I know that and you know that, but he's a man isn't he!. Yesterday he was refusing to take painkillers because they didn't work. Today he's on extra strong ones from chemist.

he eneds to go to a+e seriously.

remember, dh problems started with the flu, and he wasnt actually feeling that bad when we got to a+e and walked in fine.

not saying your dh has anything like peter had, but its always worth getting things checked out.

MaureenMLove · 20/08/2007 18:57

No point listening to scare mongery, put your mind at rest and get NHS Direct Online. He doesn't need to know for now.

drosophila · 20/08/2007 18:57

Don't want to frighten you but get him to HOSP NOW!!!

DP's brother had a pain in his foot and well let's just say it ended in tragedy. It was an infection that became uncontrollable.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 20/08/2007 18:58

and yes we know what men can be like. peter had a go at me once beucase i called the pain tream as he was in tears.

drosophila · 20/08/2007 18:59

Infections can spread rapidly and time is of the essence.

I am aware that it sounds like scare mongery but I really feel you are wasting your time with NHS direct.

throckenholt · 20/08/2007 18:59

go to the hospital - he may have an infected joint - dh got something similar in his shoulder - and ended up with blood poisoning as a result and a week in hospital.

Hope it is nothing too bad.

drosophila · 20/08/2007 19:00

Has he a temp?

Carmenere · 20/08/2007 19:03

Dp is an osteopath and say's it sounds like a psoas abcess and he should defintely go to A&E. Good Luck.

saltire · 20/08/2007 19:04

He doesn't have a temperature, just says he feels really cold and shivery - like when you get the flu!

OP posts:
Luella · 20/08/2007 19:05

I should think he needs to go to Casualty for some stronger pain relief if nothing else. But yes he def needs to be checked out. Probably a case of not asking him but telling him. good luck

MaureenMLove · 20/08/2007 19:08

I wasn't trying to belittle anything that anyone said, I just didn't want Saltire to panic. I think the message is clear tho m'dear, he needs to be persauded to go to A&E tonight! Hope he's ok.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 20/08/2007 19:09

tell him women are always right and he should go to a+e tonight.

saltire · 20/08/2007 19:10

He'd have to take himself there, I can't drive!

I am going to go and tell him to at least phone NHS24 and see what they say.

OP posts:
GooseyLoosey · 20/08/2007 19:14

He can always get a taxt if he is unable to drive. Some things are worth paying for.

GooseyLoosey · 20/08/2007 19:15

That would be a "taxi"

saltire · 20/08/2007 19:22

misdee I shall tell him that Mumsnet is always right

OP posts:
NAB3 · 20/08/2007 19:24

Has he rung?

saltire · 20/08/2007 19:26

Nab - no he is the bath now. He keeps saying it is a groin strain from the gym, but he has had groin strains before when he used to play rugby and htey were never like this. He's so blooody stubborn though.

OP posts:
NAB3 · 20/08/2007 19:27

You ring then.
0845 46 47

Peachy · 20/08/2007 19:32

Do ring them Saltire, there's a few things it could potentially be and all of them I can think of need checking

Groin strains can need attention anyhow, even if it is that

MerlinsBeard · 20/08/2007 19:32

you ring and tel them what he has told you. it won't hurt and then you can go with what the suggest.

first thing i thought of when i read it was Peter though. better to be safe than sorry
