Well today I am actually quite worried about him. The pain started off in his groin on Friday, by last night he could hardly walk and he said the pain is into his hip - he had a terrible night, in pain every time he moved in bed. He has come in from work with tears in his eyes with the pain! and can hardly walk, he says he almsot crashed coming home becasue he couldn't get hie foot on the brake becasue of the pain
. He says its all round his groin hip area, and down into his leg and knee. He couldn't get into docs today, hoping to do so tomorrow! He is also shivering really badly and feels really cold and clammy as well.

he sounds as thou he should go to A&E

throckenholt · 20/08/2007 19:38

ring the on call doctor - tell them you think he may need to go to hospital but there is no-one to drive him and you want to be sure it is needed before calling an ambulance.

Seriously - we called the on call doctor for Dh when he had an abcess in his shoulder joint - the doctor took one look at him and said straight to casualty - and was happy to call an ambulance - luckily we had no kids then so I could take him myself. He had to have immediate surgery to drain the abcess and antibiotics for a week or more.

muscle strains don't make you shivery - honestly that is the bit that sounds most worrying - it sounds like the onset of blood poisoning (hopefully I am wrong - but please get him someone to check him).

FireFaerie · 20/08/2007 19:40

You can ring for him.. I have a stubborn DF and if i think it warrant it then i phone NHS. He still wont listen, but at least i try.
Good Luck! I hope its not serious, but i hope he gets it checked out too.

Symptoms may develop suddenly and can include the following:

  • fever,
  • chills and shivering,
  • rapid breathing and headache,
  • nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea,
  • low blood pressure and possible loss of consciousness,
  • skin may feel pale, cold, and clammy,
  • delirium and/or depression.

LL he says the SMO where he works is open tomorrow. Do they all shut down in the summer then?
He is still in the bath but he has called them, I took the phone in and then threatened to drop it in the bath!.
He says that they told him to raise his leg to rest it, take some strong painkillers (oh yes my wife has prescrition meds, shall I take them) and go to his GP tomorrow".

Thats what he says they said

I hope he doesn't end up in hospital though as I'd need to take the Dses on a bus in Portsmouth

LL he's not spoken to them, he says there is a sign on the door. They will be open as it's mainly Army that are there and they are hardly likely to shut down for a couple of weeks are they.

I must admit I'm not enitrely convinced with what he says that NHS24 said, but I don't want an argument, so will have to see what Mo says tomorrow. Whatever he needs to get a "sick note" as the Army (bearin mind DH is RAF) boos at the place where he works is exepcting them all - every single one who works there, exceppt of course the Offciers, to do 6 mile route march in full kit at 6am on Wednesday morning!

hope it is ok - but if it gets worse overnight don't hesitate to call help.

NannyL · 21/08/2007 08:57

how is he today?

saltire · 21/08/2007 09:02

I give up with him I really do!

He took painkillers about 9 pm. Then went to bed. He owed and aghed and moaned from about midngiht onwards. I told him to take more painkillers, but being a typical man hewouldn't. Of course I was awake most of the night with all his moaning and groaning, so I have a headache today. He's away to work, hopefully the doctor will give him something and sort him out, but I shll be demented if the doc signs him off!
I have no sympathy for him today at all, I do believe he is genuinely in a lot of pain but if he's not going to help himself then why should I bother?

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/08/2007 09:06

oh saltire. They drive you demented don't they? My dh is exactly the same - moans his head off and makes everyone miserable but won't do anything to help himself.

Hope the doc sorts him out today though - that sort of thing can be an indication of something quite serious as the others have said.

throckenholt · 21/08/2007 10:32

well one consolation if he is able to go to work then he isn't too bad and doesn't have anything dangerous !

MaureenMLove · 21/08/2007 17:58

Hows DH Saltire?
