Could you have an infection at the side of the nail?
Could there be a hair wrapped around the finger?

What temperature (compared to the other fingers) is the top of the finger?

iamtinkabella · 02/09/2019 17:04

@GrandmaSharksDentures im not too sure. possibly an infection but i sont think i have a hair trapped? its going purple still and really hurting like throbbing. i dont know the temp of it x

The signs of infection are pain, heat swelling &redness.
Sounds like it could’ve a whitlow.
Put it i n hot water for 20 minutes, it will soften it and might relieve the pain.

iamtinkabella · 02/09/2019 18:41

@Ohyesiam yeh my finger feels roasting. im not usually worried about stuff like this but i dont feel right x

Ohyesiam · 02/09/2019 20:33

Sounds like it could be achenbach syndrome? I get it from time to time, a burst blood vessel in finger. I’ve had it today actually so I’ve been googling and then this thread popped up ! Funny that. My Finger swells and is painful and bruises. As far as I can tell it’s nothing much to worry about.

KaleidoscopeEyes · 02/09/2019 20:42

You feel like you're dying??? Go to A&E then Confused

Solihooley · 02/09/2019 20:42

Oh, if you feel unwell with it then definitely see a doctor as it sounds more like infection. Hope you’re ok op.

iamtinkabella · 02/09/2019 21:35

@KaleidoscopeEyes OBVIOUSLY i was being dramatic with the 'i feel like im dying' so do one with the snarling emoji thank you. Not in the mood for comments like yours when i do feel bloody unwell. Why comment if your not going to be nice? Confused Honest to god bore off

OP posts:
iamtinkabella · 02/09/2019 21:36

@Solihooley what is that? never even heard of that! im baffled
how my finger being swollen can make me feel so poorly! ha! Took some paracetamol which has lowered my temp for the time being. Will book a GP app in the morning if im still feeling so poorly x

Call NHS and get medical advice tonight.

BrokenWing · 02/09/2019 21:47

A&E is actually not a bad shout if you believe your finger and feeling really poorly are related, it could be you have a nasty infection (and it is a confused emoji not snarling)

MrsKCastle · 02/09/2019 21:54

Call 111. It certainly sounds as though the finger is infected and it's slightly worrying that you're feeling so poorly...

Solihooley · 02/09/2019 21:57

It’s a fancy and slightly scary sounding name but it’s just a burst blood vessel and bruising in your fingers for no apparent reason, or it can be caused by a slight injury. I’m not saying that’s what yours is but it sounds like it could be a burst blood vessel especially if it’s turning purple. It also feels like your finger might burst with pressure. I was freaked out when I first got it as you can’t believe your finger could go purple for no reason! If it is that, it will go down overnight and get less painful. If it’s still awful in the morning I’d definitely see a doctor.

steppemum · 02/09/2019 22:07

please call and get medical advice.
Infections can lead to sepsis.
The finger may be small, and you may think that it is 'only' a red finger, but the fact that you are feeling really rough is a really bad sign.

KaleidoscopeEyes wasn't being over dramatic, if you feel really rough and have an infection, medical help is URGENT

Lougle · 02/09/2019 22:25

It's hard to tell if you feel very unwell or not, but if you feel very unwell, you need to call 111 tonight. Even the tiniest scratch can lead to sepsis. Sepsis isn't an infection, it's an overwhelming immune response to infection, so the initial infection can be extremely minor.

iamtinkabella · 02/09/2019 22:25

@steppemum i know they wernt being dramatic. I just felt like they where taking the piss out of me..excuse the language.

I still feel really poorly, but im on my own with my baby (single mum) and i wouldn't have anybody to look after her if i needed to go to A&E right now. I am worried, but i feel slightly better because my temp isnt as high. I just feel lethargic and dizzy.

OP posts:
iamtinkabella · 02/09/2019 22:27

@Lougle Thank you for being concerned. I think i will be pk until the morning atleast. I really dont feel good but i dont feel unwell enough at the moment for hospital treatment. If that makes sense?

OP posts:
iamtinkabella · 02/09/2019 22:28

@Lougle ok*

OP posts:
HappyHammy · 02/09/2019 22:30

if you feel unwell, sick, lethargic, dizzy and your finger is turning purple then I really think you need medical advice, why don't you ring 111 and see what they suggest. if you're not well then how can you look after yourself and your baby. What was your temperature before you took paracetomol? this could be an acute infection that really needs treatment. Take care.

Lougle · 02/09/2019 22:31

Lethargic and dizzy is not reassuring, especially if you have a fever (whether controlled by medication or not). If you phone 111, they'll reassure you if you don't need to see anyone. They'll also tell you if you do need to.

Heartofglass12345 · 02/09/2019 22:38

If you feel like that and do feel like you're dying that is a symptom of sepsis! (An impending sense of doom)

You need to at least call out of hours! You won't be able to look after your baby at all if something happens to you (harsh but true!)
