sis · 14/09/2004 20:15

Please would people stop doing links to fantastic hotels that I an extremely unlikely to get to in this lifetime!

sis · 14/09/2004 20:16

Of course, the real problem is that I have to click on the link once it has been posted

princesspeahead · 14/09/2004 20:18

Ooh yes, do go there, it looks lovely and I've added it to my favourites which is crammed full of hotel sites for the next time we go anywhere!

marthamoo · 14/09/2004 21:01

New York, Detroit, Sydney, friend's dh is off soon for a conference in New Orleans...how terribly dreary it must be.

Now my dh had two days last week in.......stop reading now if you're of a jealous disposition....

Stockport.

Now there's glamour for you - the NHS really knows how to treat its staff well.

mummytosteven · 14/09/2004 21:05

PPH - DH and I stayed at the Alex in April. We stayed in a one bedroom suite and it was very trendy and nice. Also the suites have a decent sized kitchen in them so we were able to buy in nibbles and champagne from the deli on the corner (or Dean and Delucca) and have pre-dinner drinks before we went out.

The only slight down side is the location - its just a little shabby in the very near vacinity, but on the other hand good location for the financial district and short walk to 5th avenue, although the not so nice end

The doormen were all so cool all dressed in black. Lovely restaurant Ringos which is very hip at the moment but staying at the hotel gets you a booking easily enough - menu is half japanese and half american/fusion.

Rooms good sized with very high tech equipment - flat screen tvs everywhere including the loo! Nice deep baths - unusual for NY!

All mushroom/beige wenge decor schemes.

Service etc super. Plenty of cabs around on 2nd avenue - 30 sec walk away!

We decamped to the ALex after a couple of nights in the Essex House which we really did not like - don't go there its seriously not nice!

WideWebWitch · 14/09/2004 21:11

I'm SO batters and soapbox. And pph come to that, although don't envy her illness of course.

princesspeahead · 14/09/2004 21:15

you star, soapbox, thanks very much for that review. yes, it was the location that I wasn't so sure about, but then again you are never more than 10mins walk away from a nice bit of manhattan, are you?
really must sort something out tonight or I'll be in a cardboard box in central park at this rate...

soapbox · 14/09/2004 21:21

Tripadvisor has mixed reviews. Although as you can see the majority of them are good. Just make sure you book at least a one bed suite - the normal rooms are not as nice!

motherinferior · 15/09/2004 11:30

Yeah, me too. My most recent hotel experience was in...Uttoxeter. Although dd1 was so taken with it and talks about it so frequently that I think she may become a hotel-haunter in later life.

I've been to Blackpool AND Coventry on work, ner nerner ner ner. And Bournemouth.

Stuff yer hotdog, gel

NomDePlume · 15/09/2004 11:35
