Horrendous right hand side pain not appendicitis

Bunnybigears · 10/12/2018 18:06

Since last Tuesday I have been having off and on severe right hand side pain. On the Tuesday I was convinced it was appendicitis as the pain was a 10/10 DH rushed me to A&E by the time we got there the pain had subsided but was still there a bit. The hospital concluded not appendicitis and possible UTI gave me antibiotics despite urine and blood tests being totally normal. I was told to take antibiotics for 3 days which I have but the pain is still coming and going and occasionally back to the 10/10 level. It seems like its at the front but then also sometimes seems to come shooting to the back. Any ideas? as the Dr seems to think its 'just one of those things' but I cant live like this im taking paracetamol and ibuprofen on a 2hr schedule just to get on with my day.

Gallbladder?

Rabbitjam · 10/12/2018 18:08

Gallstones possibly, does it radiate into your shoulder?

PottyPotterer · 10/12/2018 18:16

There's a very simple test to check for gallballder pain where the doctor presses on it, Murphy's something or other I think it's called. Your gallbladder lies under your ribs slightly to the right hand side. I'd go back to your gp.

Bunnybigears · 10/12/2018 18:18

Nope it doesnt radiate into my shoulder and seems lower than the bottom of my ribs its more right down near my hip bone.
Im too busy to be ill!

I had an operation for appendicitis but when they opened me up they saw it was actually endometriosis. Could be that possibly.

PerspicaciaTick · 10/12/2018 18:20

Have you done a pregnancy test?

LittleLongDog · 10/12/2018 18:21

Cross post. That’s where I’d describe some of my endo pain OP.

Seniorschoolmum · 10/12/2018 18:24

Do you have a bloated feeling? Pain inside your hip bone? Does it ease slightly when you walk around?

Could it be an ovarian cyst, which would explain neutral blood test. If it twists, it will hurt like crazy and you’ll know something is badly wrong.
Perhaps go back and nag your GP for an ultrasound.

Soiree · 10/12/2018 18:28

Sounds like my partners kidney stones.

avoschmado · 10/12/2018 18:30

Mesenteric adenitis

smilingelizabeth · 10/12/2018 18:30

When I had appendicitis I had to hold the area where it hurt as the slightest knock or movement such as getting up off a chair was agony. When I held the area it was just about bearable. Have you tried holding it? If that makes it better perhaps it is appendicitis.

My daughter ( 8) had suspected appendicitis a few years later and the consultant got her to do three jumps in quick succession and as she could do them it was decided she didn't have it and she was discharged.

Bunnybigears · 10/12/2018 18:32

PerspicaciaTick I havent but there is physically no way that would be possible. Im going to have to go back and beg for them to do something! Ill look up Endo and kidney stones.

I second mesenteric adenitis. A horrible, horrible pain often confused with appendicitis. Worst of all I don't think it can even be treated! My poor old husband has had it twice in two years.

holasoydora · 10/12/2018 18:35

Have you had an ultrasound? I had this sort of pain and it was an ovarian cyst. I was booked in to have it removed but it started shrinking by itself and no pain since.

redsummershoes · 10/12/2018 18:39

fatty liver?
gall stomes?

Natsku · 10/12/2018 18:40

How did the hospital conclude it wasn't appendicitis? As in, what diagnostic testing did they do? Imaging? My appendicitis was not picked up until they did an MRI, ultrasounds missed it.

Bunnybigears · 10/12/2018 18:42

Natsku they decided it wasnt appendicitis on the basis it comes and goes, I wasnt being sick and my bloods were normal. No imaging at all.

Natsku · 10/12/2018 18:53

Well that's pretty shitty diagnosing. My pain came and went too and I wasn't sick. That serious pain needs to be looked at more closely, ultrasound at the very least. When they did blood tests did they check CRP levels? If those were normal then ovary cyst seems more likely.

howrudeforme · 10/12/2018 19:01

If a tad higher could it be pleurisy? Agonising from waist up to my shoulder.

Hope you get proper diagnosis...

holasoydora · 10/12/2018 19:09

I also find it strange re no imagine. I was sent for an ultrasound after my first Dr appt re. the side pain and then for a CT scan. I wasn’t sick and had normal bloods.

SantyClaws · 10/12/2018 19:13

OP my first thought was ovarian cyst too.

I had one and while I waited to have it removed they said if I got pain like you describe I should go to A&E as it could rupture and be really serious.

avoschmado · 10/12/2018 19:20

I had mesenteric adenitis several times as a teenager. Then at 20 I had a blue light case of appendicitis. Projectile vomiting, soaring temperature and indescribable pain. I didn't have imaging, I was just whisked to theatre immediately.

Bunnybigears · 10/12/2018 19:34

I will attempt to negotiate the krypton factor like appointment system at the GPs and see if someone will do more than brush it off as just one of those things.

Well you definitely need a scan! I’m shocked they would just boot you out like that.

I’ve been admitted with right sided abdo pain three times now. Numerous scans, bloods, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, cystoscopy, finally a laparoscopy disagnosed and treated endometriosis. Right sided abdo pain can be tricky, and appendicitis does need to ruled out first but they need to get to the bottom of this.

Natsku · 12/12/2018 05:47

How are you feeling? Have you managed to get an appointment?
