Horrendous right hand side pain not appendicitis

Since last Tuesday I have been having off and on severe right hand side pain. On the Tuesday I was convinced it was appendicitis as the pain was a 10/10 DH rushed me to A&E by the time we got there the pain had subsided but was still there a bit. The hospital concluded not appendicitis and possible UTI gave me antibiotics despite urine and blood tests being totally normal. I was told to take antibiotics for 3 days which I have but the pain is still coming and going and occasionally back to the 10/10 level. It seems like its at the front but then also sometimes seems to come shooting to the back. Any ideas? as the Dr seems to think its 'just one of those things' but I cant live like this im taking paracetamol and ibuprofen on a 2hr schedule just to get on with my day.

Don't be fobbed off, op. It is so frustrating trying to be heard sometimes.

Good luck 💐

OP I had very similar pain, given the pain and location the doctors thought it was appendicitis. They operated and removed it but turns out it was fine. Got a very brusque consultant the next day saying it was probably a bit of period blood escaping a Fallopian tube, was so dismissive it was untrue. Thankfully haven't had anything since. I have had cysts burst before, it was agony so please do push harder for an ultrasound or further diagnostics to see what is causing it you should not have to live in pain

First GP appointment I could get was Monday but last night the pain came back to such an extent DH took me back to A&E and I was given gas and air to manage the pain. Once the pain started to subside they sent me home with different antibiotics and an appointment for a scan today. They are now thinking possible kidney stones as there was blood and protein in my urine but still nothing showing in my bloods.. Thats another day off work (I only work mornings) in a job I obly started a month ago!

Op poor you. I have kidney stones too, they haven't tried to move yet but cause like a dull, severe pain that goes down to my groin. Drink lots and lots of water, won't harm you if it isn't kidney stones and if it is it'll help prevent infections. The treatment for them is usually non invasive. I hope you get sorted soon x

Kidney stones are a terrible thing. Add pints of fluid to your day, you may not wash them through but at least you'll prevent more from growing that way. I doubled the size of my mugs and glasses and kept the refill rate the same, nice and simple.

If you can face it, pee through a sieve with a muslin - 80% of kidney stones are just due to low fluids, the other 20% can indicate dietary changes needed/metabolic issues, but it's hard to tell without having one to check out the composition.

I went into fever the two times I had stones - first wasn't too high, just treated it with paracetamol. Second I was full on delirious but I rode it out at home as A&E was literally spilling out onto the streets, it was the last Saturday before Xmas. I still have occasional harsh twinges from the damaged ureter, but the fluid regime has shown no further stones develop (thank fuck).

Ive never been great at drinking water but Im buying a massive blooming water bottle to take to work if it prevents this!!!

Oh no poor you, kidney pain fucking sucks and does feel very similar to appendicitis (I had both at the same time, not stone but swollen kidney and appendicitis)

Soiree · 13/12/2018 08:43

Did you get your scan? Hope it's getting sorted, it's frustrating trying to be heard by the nhs sometimes.

Heyjudas · 13/12/2018 08:49

How did scan go

lagoonablue · 13/12/2018 09:58

Hi. Sorry for jumping in.

I have similar pain but on left side. Been off and on for months but started again on Friday and still here! Crappy and low, going into groin.

Don’t seem to have a fever though. Could it be kidney stone?

Bunnybigears · 13/12/2018 12:38

So scan found small kidney stones that should pass easily but could also see damage done to the urethra as the big stone passed through. So big stone has gone hence the awful pain on Tuesday night and not being able to wee properly. The Dr this time couldnt understand why they didnt do a scan a week ago. Im now completely pain free and just got some antibiotics incase of a uti or kidney infection though they think I may have escaped that. Thanks for your support I thought I must be going mad having that much pain but apparently nothing wrong with me!

My partner was in agony with kidney stones, sure he made more fuss than I did in labour. So you definitely weren't going mad! Hope the rest pass unnoticed, apparently lemon juice and loads of water can help prevent them forming.

Bunnybigears · 13/12/2018 13:23

soiree i would take labour over kidney stones any day! Im drinking water like a fish at the moment to flush these little stones out. I will add some lemon juice I cant be going through this again!

Glad you're pain free now but angry you didn't get the scan earlier
