Oh Twiglett, how scary. I would take him to see your GP, if only to get a referral to a dermatologist. You can't watch him and do nothing. I am thinking of you

Sorry you feel unable to take him to GP my friends dd has psoriasis and has had a lot of support from GP for this condition which she appears to hav inherited from her dad - yes it is unfair when child inherit illnesses but it may not be as bad you think and treatments for ailments are improving - there is also th possibility it is a chuildhood version that he will out grow - i hope you cna find the strength to go to the GP for a diaognisis and treatment

Sorry you are so worried Twiglett. I would definately take DS to GP and discuss options and/or referral to dermatology. There may well be new information about preventative treatments that were not available to your DH. Can you children be tested?

twiglett, agree with acnebride, a visit to the GP to get a referral to a dermamatologist must be worth doing. At least then you will know one way or the other.

Oh twiglett - I know just how you feel. DP has severe asthma (and has had life-threatening attacks) and I come out in a cold sweat every time one of my two coughs.

But do take him to the GP - some might be crap, but most aren't and I think you need to know.

Same boat as SP here, dh has asthma/eczema and ds already has the latter so I worry every time ds has a cough.

Like MI's idea of the support group ? there must be a patient charity, surely? Easy for me to say, but it might not be a plaque (fingers very very tightly crossed here).

Maybe you're right. Last time I took ds (with bronchiolitis) she said it could be asthma. Have since found out that lots of babies get it, especially if they have a big sister who brings every available germ home from nursery with her, and that most docs won't diagnose asthma until the child is 2.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Twiglett - I feel terrible for you. I understand your dh's reluctance to visit the GP. However your GP is the route to appropriate help. You must be firm and adamant that you want help. You could even suggest a dermatolgist (or is a rheumatologist) that you would like a referral to ANYWHERE in the country. But you must be firm.

I'm really sorry to hear of this, Twiglett. As you may recall my dh also has psoriatic arthritis, though nowhere near as bad as your dh sounds. My 27yo niece has had psoriasis since she was 3mths old, though it was misdiagnosed as eczema for 12yrs. She has had various treatments over the years with varying degrees of success. Because the psoriasis was so severe she was used as a guinea pig to trial new treatments, some with a good degree of success. IKWYM about knowing more than than your GP (I was the same when ds2 had bad asthma) but your GP is your door to specialist help. Take care.

so sorry twiglett. whatever you do keep posting here for support.....it's horrible waiting with bated breath for something to become worse or go away. might not a dermatologist be able to diagnose either way? x

Twiglett My auntie had psoriasis pretty bad. It was al over her body. She treid numerous treatments and in the end opted for what I think may have been chemo drugs. Not completely sure but I know that she was told not to get pregnant within 5 years of taking it, so im assuming they were pretty strong. She is now clear of psoriasis and has been for the past 10 years.
Maybe your dh should give it a go.

Can you speak to your dh's consultant and ask hom to recommend someone to refer your ds to - he should know who the paediatric experts are in this. I think you will have to go to your GP to get referred but if you go armed with a name I think it will be very hard for him to say no. Ask him to mention your dh condition in the referral letter and to refer you urgently as this should speed up an appointment.

Oh twiglett so sorry for you - I know what you are going through with the dread, every time dd has diarrhoea I wonder if this is the onset of Crohn's and if she has inherited it from me :(

How about the chinese herbal route? My MIL had terrible psoriasis which was totally cured that way and so was my eczema.

Could it be impetigo or something like that - I would see a GP just on the basis that it could easily be something else and that would then remove your immediate worry that ds has the psoriasis.

On the positive sign, we have psoriasis in our family, so I know what it looks like. I thought that dd was developing it, she had some well developed plaques, took het to the docs and they turned out to be eczema.
