WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 28/09/2018 07:19

Good morning everyone,

Welcome to the new thread, and the club that nobody wants to join. Our previous thread is here.

Anyone with any type of cancer is welcome. And we will hold your hand if you're waiting to find out whether or not you have cancer at all.

If you've got a loved one with cancer then you can get support here.

Please feel free to reintroduce yourself so we don't all have to remember from the previous thread!

Bitoffun I have visions of you clinging on to your bottle of oramorph for dear life 😁 ask them about zomorphe, you take one on a morning and one on a night then just top up with oramorph if you and when you need it. Ooh congratulations on the wedding! I got married last year and I think we've just about managed to pay it all off

Pandora the chemo carries on working long after you've had your last one so don't be too disheartened about your MRI scan. Did they say there wasn't much of a change or is that what you think after seeing it? I wouldnt even know which way up an MRI scan goes so I wouldn't have a clue what I was looking at

Gin how did your appointment go?

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 18/10/2018 11:51

Pandora did they give you an alternative plan? I know with me they don’t want to scan straight after chemo as there is more good to come in the few weeks after the last dose- same for radiotherapy.

Probably not the time to say that I am pretty jealous of your H cups!

Pandoraslastchance · 18/10/2018 12:00

This is my mind way mri I've had 3 cycles and now im due 3 more cycles of two drugs then another mri then review and mastectomy. Then more chemo I think 3 cycles of one type then 3 cycles of 2 other mess then radiation and reconstruction.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 18/10/2018 13:51

Hi @Pandoraslastchance I've just had my oncology meeting after chemo no 3 bc as well and my lump hasn't changed that much either. The positive is it hasn't grown either. My oncologist says sometimes it takes a while for the chemo to do its thing. I start Docetaxel next round. I was concerned but now know I just need to get on with it! She said it may be different side effects, more achy than sickness so fingers crossed. She also said that not everyone loses their hair so mine might start growing back which would be funny as it's hilarious at the moment!
I'm on Yorkshire for anyone else that up here!
Yesterday's addition the life was chicken pox in the smallest child, I mean really like i need that at the moment! Grin

Flying in on my way to bed for a mid-afternoon nap!!

Welcome to newcomers... sorry you are here, but if you gotta have cancer then this is the thread to be on 😁

BOF congratulations on the wedding! And great news re treatment too.

I went to the onc unit for bloods today ahead of a transfusion tomorrow because my Hb was very low last week before my last chemo. Well whaddya know, they have gone up, so I don’t need to have it! I was kinda looking forward to a pick me up, but I guess it’s good news really 🤨

And... I am in Yorkshire too!

💐 to all - hope people are getting to enjoy a bit of the glorious autumn sunshine we are having today!

LadyMaryC · 18/10/2018 15:27

Stupid question probably but here goes anyway. I'm booked in for a gastroscopy this Sunday, query oesophageal cancer...do they let you know then and there if they find anything or do you just wander off home and the GP contacts you at a later date? Sorry, not been in this position before and trying to work out the best time to give my wife a little heads up that something might be going on.

iVampire · 18/10/2018 15:44

Make sure you tell your team about your wedding plans BoF so that if there is anything discretionary about the timings of whatever treatment lies ahead of you, they can make plans so you’re as fit as poss and it’s not completely bracketed by appointments,

(I amused my team by attempting to schedule a bone marrow aspiration round my race training calendar).

My leukaemia is incurable, but the treatment for my kind is very effective, so my aim is the ‘liveable with chronic disease’. I might get the odd treatment break, but essentially I’m on targeted cytotoxic drugs for life. Fortunately nearly all the side effects have settled down, even the tiredness has abated somewhat - usually I’m OK but when fatigue strikes it can really wipe me out. Oddly though, the more I exercise the less the fatigue, even when it’s a real struggle to find the motivation to get moving that day.

TwitterQueen1 · 18/10/2018 16:00

Thank you Purple and addle Smile. I've returned home from York today - I didn't see very much of it unfortunately as it was more of a gossip visit than a sightseeing one.

I did get to speak to my onc nurse but she couldn't tell me much. There's nothing at the moment by way of trials but there might be a potential one opening in mid-November, so I will be sent an appointment to go and talk to someone about that. The DDs and I are now wondering whether it might be cannabis related, given the new rules! Christmas could be double-fun Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 18/10/2018 17:16

LadyMaryC I had a colonoscopy rather than a gastropy, but they told me right away. It was a weekday though so more people were around, and obviously it’s different type of test.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 18/10/2018 17:17

The DDs and I are now wondering whether it might be cannabis related, given the new rules! Christmas could be double-fun

Grin Grin can you imagine!

I hope they brief you soon.

LadyMaryC · 18/10/2018 17:20

THank you NameChanged.
Hope you had a nice nap Fuzzy
BOG congratulations on the wedding
I might ask to have Christmas at your Twitter if you get a cannabis trial [ grin]

KeepCalm · 18/10/2018 17:57

Well. That's a bit shit.

It's already spread.

No surprise.

To my lungs

Which is incurable and changes the game slightly.

Feck

FuzzyWhiteLegs · 18/10/2018 18:08

Bugger bugger bugger KeepCalm

Nothing useful to say but I didn’t want to read and run. Do you have a treatment plan yet?

noodles44 · 18/10/2018 18:25

Oh no keepcalm that is definitely more than a bit shit Flowers
Sorry you've got this to deal with now too.

TwitterQueen1 · 18/10/2018 18:48

keepcalm so sorry to hear that. But as Leslie (who is a bit quiet atm, are you OK?) will tell you, incurable does not mean terminal. There will be A LOT of options open to you. Having said that... shit, fuck, bastard, crap and every other swear word in the world ....

LadyMaryC I'm hoping this will be a totally redundant piece of information and I have no idea where in the world you are based, but this if the news is bad this info on a trial may be interesting / useful to you.

purpleunicorns · 18/10/2018 18:58

Oh Keepcalm it really is shit, I know exactly how you're feeling. But incurable does not mean terminal as TQ says. Treatment has come such a long way. Have they mentioned what treatment you'll be having?
I know your head will be all over the place at the minute so try and be kind to yourself 💐

KeepCalm · 18/10/2018 19:09

A change from FEC-T to 6 doses of docetaxel straight off and then see how that goes.....

Kick off 11.30 tomorrow

FuzzyWhiteLegs · 18/10/2018 19:33

Straight on it then KeepCalm... good.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 18/10/2018 20:39

KeepCalm that is exactly where I was 6 weeks ago. Into lungs so incurable. But incurable is absolutely not unmanageable. They will tell you more about this and the options once you’ve had a chance to take it in. So many Flowers Flowers for you tonight

KeepCalm · 18/10/2018 21:01

@Namechangeforthiscancershit thank you. I knew there would be more to my story but not going to lie, I wasn't inspecting this.

Simmi1 · 18/10/2018 21:25

Oh keepcalm - so sorry. That’s really shit but as others have said above manageable.

Simmi1 · 18/10/2018 21:26

So sorry you’re having to deal with this though keepcalm FlowersBrew

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 18/10/2018 22:00

BitOfFun · 18/10/2018 22:43
