is chicken pox worse for children with eczema?

dd seems to have loads more spots in the target eczema areas.. and being badly asthmatic will she get the chest infection we were warned about?

anyone? she looks bloody awful.

i don't know but CP is yuck (DS had it a month ago)
have you tried bicarb in the bath
you can also get a mixture of aqueous cream and calamine in one which may be good
do you have any epaderm - DS had this when he had a some stubborn eczema on his face - perhaps yuo could smother her in that

Allie this is so weird but my dd (aged 4.5 y o) has severe excema and has come home from school to day with what I am sure is chicken pox. She's on the sofa looking and feeling sorry for herself, poor mite.

Anyway the short answer is yes, it is worse for dcs with excema. I got that from here

Poor loves. Are you using calamine lotion? I am wary of using anything that will dry out dd's skin even more as it is painfully dry already.

hello, was bored (sat here feeding lo) and felt sorry for you getting no replies (although I see you have now had some) and found this www.mayoclinic.com/health/chickenpox/DS00053/DSECTION =5 so perhaps you should speak to your GP.

allie when was the last time dd had prednisolone steriods if it was recently i would see gp asap as it can cause complications not sure what but the hospital always ask if ds has been in contact before they prescibe them.

we finished our last course of steroids a week ago today after her bad attack...

think you should give gp or hospital a ring just incase.

i am phoning the hospital now, they released her a week ago after a 3 day stay for a chronic chest infection

DS has eczema and had the worse case of chickenpox I have ever seen, in March.. so I will be interested to watch this thread.

i just phoned the childrens ward and luckily a dr answered the phone she said that as she had had a short course of steroids then she should be ok, and would call me back if they could suggest anything else for her to take, but to keep her fluid intake up and let it run it's course. they don't like admitting children with chicken pox onto the ward, and were grateful for me letting them know she has it

Not posted here for donkey's.....but my dd's had bad CP, however....the dermatologist said...correctly, for us...eczema tends to clear up a bit when CP breaks, and does not interfere...This is what happened for us. Bring back the eczema...at least it did scar! (and it did come back afterwards...!)

allie my DT2 has just had a really nasty bout of chicken pox, she is mildly asthmatic with slight eczema so not as bad as she could be by any means. She has been on anitbiotics this week which have worked wonders, but she was really poorly with it last weekend. Antibiotics were given the minute the GP saw her on Mon with strict instructions to return if no improvement within 24 hrs, luckily she improved quickly.

Allie, also meant to say backs of knees, ears, armpits, bottom (both bits!) were by far the worst affected.
