Glycerine suppositories otc

jellybeanteaparty · 12/07/2018 21:47

I find licorice gets things moving!

Rednaxela · 12/07/2018 21:51

Call the gp. Ask to book a phone consultation. It is not unusual! They can prescribe things that aren't available otc.

GP prescribed me cosmocol, it is amazing Grin

I second glycerine supositories you can get them from asda. Instant relief!

userofthiswebsite · 12/07/2018 21:54

A whole loada prune juice (not any other juice) will do the trick. Chill it in the fridge first though, makes it more palatable. Drink 2 big glasses. Then wait.
You might get some nasty cramps first.
But it will work.
From experience on several occasions.
Always keep a carton or two in the cupboard purely for this purpose.

tigercub50 · 12/07/2018 22:01

I feel your pain OP! Califig is good (Asda, Tescos, local pharmacy) from around £4.50 a bottle. Prune juice works brilliantly for me but I have to be careful!

allypally999 · 13/07/2018 08:55

Its a myth that eating lots of fibre helps - eating crap helps much more (trust me - this is my specialist subject). Apart from drugs (which I am prescribed) things which have helped me go are:

tin of beans
tin of prunes
crisps
fish and chips (yep really)

Fruit is just sugar so not that helpful so I avoid it.

Good luck!

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 13/07/2018 08:59

Milk of Magnesia helped me when I had the same problem. It's awful isn't it - I hope it passes soon (excuse the pun!)

ellesbellesxxx · 13/07/2018 09:01

Pregnacare bunged me up too. I just took folic acid and iron tablets

wineandsunshine · 13/07/2018 18:45

Water, syrup lactulose and lots of fruit!

You have my sympathies! pregnacare did that to me ☹️

MyFriendFlicker · 14/07/2018 18:52

Another vote for prune juice. It's quite strong so chill first and knock it back as quick as you can. I find I actually like eating prunes but it's not as effective as the juice.
You can buy lactulose at a pharmacy, that works well.

Jayfee · 14/07/2018 18:54

Sitting on the lookout with your feet on a stool helps a bit.

Jayfee · 14/07/2018 18:55

That is so your knees are higher than your bum and feet flat down on stool

Jayfee · 14/07/2018 18:56

Sorry loo not lookout

Haworthia · 14/07/2018 19:00

You’re too far gone for fruit, frankly. What use is adding more things into the mouth end when your bottom end is set like concrete (sorry to be crass) Grin

You need a stool softener - Movicol or Laxido - safe in pregnancy. You can buy OTC without a prescription but a pharmacist will probably refuse if you say you’re pregnant. They refuse everything. Also glycerine suppositories. Not pleasant but they do work. Make sure you insert it as far as you can and then lie down for 15-20 minutes so it can melt. Don’t be tempted to sit on the loo too soon because you might find that the only thing that comes out is the suppository. Been there unfortunately.

Pregnancy constipation is very common - it’s due to high progesterone levels. If I were you I’d keep up with the Movicol/Laxido throughout your pregnancy to keep you regular (and stave off piles). Good luck!

bionicnemonic · 14/07/2018 19:35

Not the weather for it, but can you walk around?

abbsisspartacus · 14/07/2018 19:40

Prune juice and lemonade works like a charm

Syrup of figs gave me the gas from hell

GourmetGold · 14/07/2018 19:50

Bags of salad (lettuce, spinach etc) .
couple bags a day sort me out!

Royallypissedoff1 · 14/07/2018 19:52

Syrup of figs
Ryvitas

QueenCity · 14/07/2018 19:57

You need lactulose. It's safe to take in pregnancy and you can buy it over the counter.

Alicatz66 · 14/07/2018 20:08

Dried apricots !!!!

Pregpreg · 14/07/2018 21:03

Thanks for all the help!!! I went to the doctor's and they prescribed lactulose....went for a to the loo for a small amount and now back to nothing!! I didn't think about beans before so went out and bought some...no luck so far today... :( I always keep the stool in the bathroom. Suppositories will have to wait for next trip out! I did also purchase prune juice so gunna try that too!! Still so so so uncomfortable will probably have to see doctor again...

Another vote for dried apricots, start with 3 and then slowly up it.

Don't be tempted to eat the whole bag as I did when I was pregnant and desperate, I literally couldn't leave the loo and I was at work Blush

Haworthia · 14/07/2018 22:38

The problem with lactulose is its only helpful for mild constipation tbh, and it gives you awful wind. Go back to the doctor on Monday if things don’t improve tomorrow.

befairdontjudge · 15/07/2018 21:30

Sugar free sweets are brilliant
