Something bit me while I was gardening yesterday. The blood spot came up under the skin straight away. No raised lump at all

Second pic is this morning, a red area has formed around it and it's bastard itchy but still not raised like a normal bite.

Any ideas?

Redken24 · 15/04/2018 06:55

SmallVera · 15/04/2018 06:57

As in Nick? Confused

Spider?

Hassled · 15/04/2018 07:09

I don't think horsefly - there would be a massive swelling. Definitely the wrong time of year for vampires.
If you google image garden spider bite there are some pictures which look not dissimilar to yours (there are also some truly terrifying pictures, so be warned) - I'd go with spider.

SmallVera · 15/04/2018 07:27

Good heavens those spider bite photos Shock

Watching with interest op, I got the same thing while gardening yesterday. Mine didn't start to itch until this morning though.

It was the lesser spotted freaky deaky long legged beastie.

On a slightly more serious note, I don’t think you’ll find out what it was but I get them when gardening too....blooming itchy!

SmallVera · 15/04/2018 14:48

Thanks all. DH was chuntering about tick bites, pretty sure it's not. It's gone all puffy and hot now so am obvs picturing the festering craters from my spider bite googling.

Looks like an ordinary midgie/ gnat bite to me.

Spider bites usually show 2 holes where their teeth have sunk in- mine did, anyway/

digerd · 15/04/2018 17:30

Yes my spider bite too. After a course of antibiotics and anti histamine for cellulitis, the swelling on my ankle went down and there were the 2 FANG holes as bold as brass staring at me like a vampire bite on the fleshy inside of the ankle. It happened in the garden just as dusk was setting in and began like a massive nettle rash which was more itchy than painful. The swelling rose to above my calf but hadn't managed to see what had bitten me at the time.
but that was during a heatwave and we haven't had one yet Confused

GreenTulips · 15/04/2018 17:33

You need a bug spray when gardening - keeps the buggers off

Strax · 15/04/2018 17:35

Horse fly bites hurt like buggery when they bite you then itch like mad for days/weeks afterwards. Hate them!

pieceofpurplesky · 15/04/2018 17:41

DS's spider bites all 12 of them plus dead spider in his shirt started like the OP picture but ballooned up pretty soon into blisters

SmallVera · 15/04/2018 19:44

In his shirt ShockShockShock

Mine is Now blister-like, puffy and weepy. Mmmmm.

How's yours coming along Bubbles?

OP posts:
RaindropsAndSparkles · 15/04/2018 19:51

I think that's a spider bite too. Was it painful going in? And then you saw the blood?

I have mega reactions to mozziez. Only had two/three spiders and they are different. Hard to quantify.

Little bitey bastards.

Bubblesblue · 15/04/2018 22:15

Mines swollen now and much more red. And a whole heap more itchy! Not weepy though. Hopefully ours are nothing sinister. Definitely going to get the big spray out next time- great tip GreenTulips

pieceofpurplesky · 16/04/2018 00:02

Yes @SmallVera he had been throwing leaves and a spider got down his t shirt and ate him!

Bubblesblue · 16/04/2018 11:03

How's yours today smallvera? Mine seems to have small blisters on it now

What has bitten me? Pics...
SmallVera · 16/04/2018 14:21

Mine looked a bit manky so I've flung TCP on it and covered with a plaster. is yours really hot?

It is nice to have a Bite Buddy!

DailyWailSucksSnails · 16/04/2018 14:43

Little feckity multi-legged microbeast horror.

Or even just an earwig or a wood louse. I react to them like that, too...

Topical antihistamine good. Oral if it gets too itchy. See Chemist.

Bubblesblue · 16/04/2018 22:10

I love having a bite buddy! Mines not hot, no. And the red had much reduced to how it was in the first pic. It seems to be getting better but I've never had the blisters before.
Hope yours is less hot now and is going down?

RaindropsAndSparkles · 16/04/2018 22:47

Topical antihistamine Grin. I'm allergic to stuff in that too. On a fleshy bit my bites are often red, raw with a ten pence sized hive in the middle. Often 10cm across normally. They can itch up for weeks.

Oral histamine is my secret weapon --and Deet-'

That made me Lol GrinGrin
