I almost certainly have UC based on abnormal blood and faecial calproctein test. I have to be referred for tests which I am terrified about and had already resigned myself to the fact I had this condition but where do I go from here? Will I still be able to eat/drink what I like? Will the diarrhoea and streaks of blood stop once I start meds? What are the side effects of meds? Will i still be able to work/Go out without worryingabout toilets? Will I start getting severe pain (I don't have any now). I cannot believe this. Was such a healthy person before all of this. I knew my "bug" in October was not just that. It went in stages sure but it lasted far too long.

When did you get this diagnosis? Did they not have a chat with you about it?!

Oh OP. How are these multiple threads helping you? Didn't you get all the info from the last thread? You haven't been officially diagnosed.

Your last thread was stopped because of your health anxiety.

This should be too. It will only feed into your mental illness.

Wait for the outcome of the tests.

Of all the things you could have uc is really one of the better things- it’s very treatable and lots of people (like my mum and several others in my family) lead very normal and active lives.

Oh FGS , not this again , you don’t have a diagnosis , you have massive health anxiety . Why not just wait for a diagnosis of an actual condition and then start a thread as nobody can answer the questions because you don’t actually know what is wrong with you ( which could just as easily be stress induced diarrhoea and an internal pile)

My doctor has said I most likely have it. The stool and blood samples all came back indicating it. When I was preparing the stool sample I knew it would come back abnormal as I could see there was blood in the stool.
I need advice on how I can now live my life with this condition.

I am being fast tracked as I told her the anxiety was taking over my life so all being well I will have a definite diagnosis by end of January. I am just terrified as to how this will change my life.

A doctor has told me it is highly likely given the abnormal results, huge weight loss, horrible gas and streaks of blood in diarrhea. No point in me pretending I don't have it.

I did tell the doctor I can't cope with the anxiety and cried when she told me all my results were indicators of UC. That's why she wants to fast track me and the fact that I am losing weight at a shocking rate (Down to 6st10). Food isn't staying in me.

Illnesses mean different things for different people. Try not to focus on the experiences of others and just concentrate on what this possible diagnosis means for you. X

OP, put it this way. Life will get better for you because the UC will not be left untreated. The treatment is offered because it improves things. The NHS is not allowed to waste money on statistically ineffective treatment.You will be able to get a better idea over what can aggravate it. People do live with this condition.

And if you are worried about toilets why not look into incontinence underwear/pads? These might help you feel more secure.

Oh FFS. Seek help for the health anxiety which is ruining your life far more than the horrid physical symptoms.

Try asking your doctor these questions, rather than a bunch of online randoms.
Honestly, they have trained for years and years, they are better placed to answer your questions than we are.

I just hope the meds take off that 'urgent' feeling and that I can lead a normal ish life.

Well OP, that is what they are designed to do. The NHS would not waste money on them if they didn't work for most people.

You do need help for your health anxiety though. Will you get it?

That's probably your best bet at a 'normalish life'.

The meds are great and many people live absolutely normal lives on them.

My partners UC is triggered by stress, I suggest for the sake of your general well-being if you are suffering from health anxiety that first and foremost you need to address that first and you might find that many of your physical symptoms also improve.

DH has UC which is well controlled with medication and when he does have a flare, there is effective additional medication. He pretty much leads a perfectly normal life. He does all those things that you mentioned - eats, drinks, works etc.

Between his UC and me being coeliac, we get through a lot of toilet roll when things are tricky!

Unusually, I hope you have UC. I don't think you do but at least it would give you a focus till you find the next illness you think you have.

A doctor is now telling me she thinks I have it and the tests are all supporting it. Only thing that is odd is I have no pain and she can press hard on my stomach without it causing me any pain. She did say it isn't unusual for it to start abruptly and come and go at first hence my one month of being well. People keep telling me different but this is coming from a medical professional. We are also working on my anxiety. I told her I wasn't in a good head space and that I was feeling very depressed and like there is no hope. It was easier to tell her that when the focus was on my physical illness at the time.

I don't understand how since Christmas day - when I last commented- that you've had a faecal calproctin test and bloods and the results back?
None of this is adding up.

I got the results this morning, I had done the tests previously. As it is now looking almost 99% certain I have UC, it isn't just an anxiety of mine, it is happening for real.

Oh, I thought there was another test you hadn't had done yet. As the last one came back ok.
