Breastfeeding mums -when did you restart your periods?

My DD is nearly 8 months old and is still fully breast fed with the odd bit of yoghurt thrown in when she's in the mood. Have been getting a bit worried recently that I haven't yet had a period. Can't even contemplate the idea of being pregnant again . Wondered how normal this is? Any response welcome!

I didn't have a period at all between DS and DD (stopped feeding DS at 14 months in April, DD born in February)

babygrand · 03/04/2007 20:20

Had a period after 11 months (didn't stop breastfeeding until around 18 months and, interestingly, although trying to get pregnant, that happened around the 18 month mark).

DontlookatmeImshy · 03/04/2007 20:22

Sounds perfectly normal.Mine returned when ds was 9 months, but some peoplesreturn much sooner, some return much later, but if you are worried about being pregnant then easiest thing is to do a test.

melpomene · 03/04/2007 20:22

Very normal.

After my DD1: 14 months

DD2: 11 months

DelGirl · 03/04/2007 20:22

I think it was about 8 months for me, certainly no sooner and may well have been 10. I gave up bf at 10 months

Phew! Was just concerned cos all my mum friends have got their periods. V unlikely that I'm pregnant but think i'll do a test just to put my mind at ease. Thanks.

its easier to get pg than you think...i breastfed for 3months, and have just discovered i am 7wks pg, and never had a period, so, if you don't want to be pg again, be very careful...it is true about how fertile you are!!!

Heartmum2Jamie · 03/04/2007 20:29

4 months with both

tibsy · 03/04/2007 20:46

10m with ds then got preg and now still feeding dd who is nearly 1 and no period yet so i have had 1 period in last 41 months - hopefully not pg have been testing regularly. don't really want to go back on pill but have prescription. if you don't want to be pg be very carefull.

mankyscotslass · 04/04/2007 08:25

mankyscotslass · 04/04/2007 08:39

Anna8888 · 04/04/2007 08:39

My daughter was fully breastfed and my periods restarted six weeks after giving birth.

NutyNige · 04/04/2007 08:39

mine never stopped.

sockmonkey · 04/04/2007 08:55

DS1 - 6 months
DS2 - 11 months, I was beginning to panic too. Finally came on DS1's birthday, when all the family were over. Talk about bad timing!
