Is is possible to have Glandular Fever and not know about it???????????????

Have been poorly on and off for a while, bad throat infection (Pharangitis or something) which has come back.

Doc is sending me for blood tests next week to see if it is Glandular Fever but surely I would be aware of it if I had it. Or had had it.

He says that as I have had tons of colds and been very tired, I could have had it recently and be recoving now, hence the infections.

Is he talking through his qualified arse?

My friend was diagnosed with it after having what she thought was porlonged or repeated tonislitus, so i imagine it could be true

what did your friend do for treatment, or do you just have to take it easy (HA! Like that is a possibility with children)

Yes, I had it for several months without knowing.

The GP's receptionist mis-read the results to me over the phone and told me I didn't have it. About 3 months later I saw the GP who commented on the fact that I had Glandular Fever!

It also came back every time I got tonsillitis, until I had my tonsils removed.

she did just take it easy I think. She was quite poorly though

in the dim and distant past as a teenager I had penicillin for a bad cut... I came out with a horrific rash, it turned out that the reaction was because I had glandular fever - I had felt fine before then. Of course once I knew I had it I then "felt" the symptoms and felt tired etc. So yes it is very possible to have it and not realise!

it is ok when I am at work (like now) as I can be quiet but at home with a 2 year old and a 4 year old....the day passes in a series of screeches and shouts

I knew about it when I had it. Thought I was never going to get out of bed again - was awake for only a short time every day and my throat was so sore, I couldn't even swallow the spit in my mouth!

However, I have heard that some people don't get it as severely but I haven't heard of someone being able to carry on with everyday life and have it at the same time iyswim.

Were you really tired, like can't get out of bed tired (as opposed to knackered by the kids tired )?

I didn't want to get out of bed and it was a huge effort to do so. But screeches of MUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEE kind of do your head in after a while.

I regularly fall asleep on the bus home

yes I think you can have it without knowing. I remeber my friend had it and i'm sure it was only found when she had blood tests like yourself

I am wasting away and look and feel very crap, lost half a stone and it will not come back

have got some work to do, so will be back in a bit

have brought half the fruit bowl from home and have a cheese toastie on order

I, too, had it when I was 15. Lost loads and loads of weight and was really wasting away. Took ages to be rid of it (like six weeks).

(doctor also told my parents it was the kissing disease so my boyfriend was banned from visiting till I had got rid of it !)

I had Glandular Fever but I was aware of it as my limbs were so sore I could hardly walk or lift things.

Very possible not to be aware of it though as a friend of mine has had it recently & just thought she needed a holiday due to a very exhausting job!

I had it when I was 16 - during my O levels. My GP only diagnosed it with a blood test. He gave me a note to excuse me from the exams because of it! I didn't take him up on it coz I couldn't face resits so struggled in to do them.
I just slept for the rest of the time.

When they were finally over I just spent 2 weeks on the sofa. I remember walking up the road and back (about half a mile) and then sleeping from 2 in the afternoon til 10 the following morning!

It eventually goes but you must rest, think your dh needs to step up for you!
It stays in your system and has left me with an enormous sleep appetite - anywhere, anytime!

my 11 yr old niece is just recovering from it, she has been so poorly, first of all it was she was told tolsilitus, but she just didn't get better - she been off school 5 weeks, thankfully now she appears to be recovering well, she just can't over do things at the moment - nasty thing.

Be careful to get enough rest, as trying to push through GF has been linked to the onset of cronic fatigue Syndrome.

I phoned yesterday and they are normal

whatever that means

so I have no idea what is wrong with me tbh

I feel slightly better and am going to bed at 10ish instead of snoring on the sofa at 9pm

still thin though...

oh, poor you. Maybe you are just Knackered (with a capital K).

Perhaps this is ammo for a weekend away on your own without the kids and dh ?

inlaws are having them overnight on Saturday so I plan a day of rest
