I'm wondering if this burn looks normal for day 6 or if it may be slightly infected. I can't find any photos online that I could compare it against. Pictures to follow

That looks like normal healing to me but it's not always easy to see in a picture.

It's a big burn-did you have it looked at when you did it?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/07/2017 17:46

Have you not had that looked at and dressed? It must be very painful.

Crumbs1 · 14/07/2017 17:47

It doesn't look infected but does look like it needs dressing.

ChangeSensitive · 14/07/2017 17:52

Thank you for replying, it was a conplete accident with boiling water on the stove. I did have a dressing the day after but it chaffs and opens the wounds so I haven't re bandaged it. Should I wear it even if it scratches it and opens the wounds?

Sorry if I sound ridiculous not knowing this, I've never experienced a burn before

It definitely needs dressing, the blistered area still looks raw and vulnerable to infection. It must be so uncomfortable. I don't think the dressing should have caused additional issues, I remember when I had a severe burn, the dressing was a comfort rather than making it worse.

Do you have a minor injuries clinic you can pop to?

PurpleDaisies · 14/07/2017 18:03

Wow-I posted after seeing picture one and not the others.

Whoever saw you should have given you a load of non adherent dressing pads to put on it. The bandage should only be holding them in place. They won't scratch the burn or stick to it and will help stop infection.

Go back off more advice.

ChangeSensitive · 14/07/2017 18:05

Yes it's really painful, even walking is uncomfortable. I will call the late night chemist and see if they stock something that I could bandage it with. Thank you for your advice, I really appreciate it

Did you go to hospital or minor injuries for treatment and dressing?

Looking at the first picture, there may be cellulitis but it's hard to say from a photo. If the pale pink area next to the edge of the cald is new or spreading then you will need antibiotics.

In hospital we mark around the out of the area on pen to see if it's spreading.

By day 6 it should be feeling less painful, so if the pain has increased or is worse, the chances are it's infected. I would keep it covered, to reduce the risk of infection.

Do you feel unwell, any fevers?

Whoknewitwastrue · 14/07/2017 18:20

Are you taking any regular pain medication?

nocoolnamesleft · 14/07/2017 18:48

It's hard to tell over t'interweb. I'm a wee bit bothered by the impression that there seems to be vague redness beyond what seems to be a clear edge to the burn. Was that there before? Because if not, or if it's spreading, that's rather serious.

And definitely needs proper dressing.

ChangeSensitive · 14/07/2017 20:21

Thanks again for your advice. The redness wasn't there until yesterday and has spread a fair bit today hence why I thought it may be a sign of infection. I've been advised now to see the out of hours doctor and am heading there just now so I will let you know the outcome when I get out

So it suddenly seems dayglow when I got to the hospital and doctor said it's badly infected. If antibiotics don't help it tonight I'll be given them through a drip tomorrow. Thank you for convincing me to call
