Have you tried a second opinion from a GP? Um.. You could maybe make an appointment with a dermotologist to discuss your options and to see what he/she recommends re:makeup?

vvvvvvv · 16/03/2007 20:51

yep i have had 2 docs say its inptigo and 2 docs say its the make up ?im very confused

I used to get this kind of thing on my face - not from makeup but from moisturisers, cleansers, etc.

I nw just use soap and water to wash and oil of olay to moisturise. Anything else and I am covered in red, sore, itchy lumps.

It would normally take about a week to calm down for me.

AitchYouBerk · 16/03/2007 20:52

stop wearing make-up right now and hope it will clear up?

lulumama · 16/03/2007 20:52

you've seen 4 docs ! has anything been prescribed? oilatum is like a moisturiser for the bath i thought !!

maybe get a 5th opinion !

PeachyClair · 16/03/2007 20:53

Its ahrd to say without seeing it, it could well be a reaction. Have you googled for pictures of impetigo and compared? If it is that, you would need treatment and I'd be very that you ahd it for a while and no=one else got it- its hghly contagious.

It could also be a form of acne. It might also be stress related.

Yes you need to see a dermatologist, with the wedding soon I would consider a private referral. but as long as its not anything infectious a beauth therapist will advise on how to cover it and what make up would be suitable, you need to look for a hypoallergenic range (when i was training we always recommended Almay butt hat was years ago- are they still going? Health food shops also ofetn stock ranges).

BonyM · 16/03/2007 20:54

If it's impetigo you should have been prescribed antibiotics which would clear it up very quickly. If this doesn't work then it might be the make-up and if you stopped using it you would soon find out if this is the case.

3andnomore · 16/03/2007 21:08

V, I assume, the doctors that diagnosed Impetigo have prescriped you something for it, other then Oilatum...so, why you not using the prescribed medication?

vvvvvvv · 16/03/2007 21:12

i was using fucdin but never helped so i dont think it is inptigo also i had antibiotics and that never got rid of it so im really confused?? maybe it is a makeup reaction im gonna stop wearing it and see what happenes.hoping it will be gone for my big day.im under a lot of stress so it might be some of that too

OP posts:
3andnomore · 16/03/2007 21:15

we have been crossposting...the fusdin cream you are talking about is that hydrocortison cream...if not (as I somehow have it in my head that it is a antifungal cream, lol), and it's a allergic reaction that you have, then a hydrocortison (0.5-1%) should do the trick!

3andnomore · 16/03/2007 21:17

oh and no oilatum, eucerin cream is a reat emoilient and I must admit, even the cheap emoilient cream that asda does, is pretty good, indeed that is my daily moisturiser..

vvvvvvv · 16/03/2007 21:18

can i bye that from the chemist?? as my docs are shit and just cant do there jobs good its called lazy.im confused should i not use the oilatum? then as he sed its a make up reaction?

OP posts:
vvvvvvv · 16/03/2007 21:19

sorry its a antibicots cream the fuciden

OP posts:
Simplyred · 16/03/2007 21:23

Yes as previously said if itchy and allergic reaction then a hydrocortison (0.5-1%) should do the trick and will work quickly! Cream or a Piriton type antihistimine tablet.

3andnomore · 16/03/2007 21:23

what I mean is, that Oilatum can actually make a flare up worse...certainly true for my biys and myself and I have heard the same of a fair few other people...thing is, it's trial and error to find the creams that suit you...e45 forinstance is another one that I personally can't use, as it stings my socks of, lol...maybe I am just weird.
The cortison cream...hm...not sure if you can get it over the counter, however, your pharmacist will be able to advice you, and indeed a lot of pharmacists are very clued up, when I lived in a different area to now, the pharmacist there was defiantely more clued up then the gp's there...! Worth trying anyway
Also, obviously don't wear any make up at all, and don't wash your face with irritating soap....use a mild facewash ....

3andnomore · 16/03/2007 21:24

oh, yeah, just checked the fucidine cream, and yes not a fungalcream, not sure why i thought it was antifungal...

vvvvvvv · 16/03/2007 21:27

the cream that i have got today from the doc the oilatum really itchys when i apply it mdont know if thats ment to happen?

OP posts:
wilkie50 · 16/03/2007 21:27

Loads of make up contains Lanolin which is renowned for causing allergic reation - check the ingredients on the back of your make up!!! I wouldn't put any form of moistureiser (including Oilatum) on it and DEFO get a second opinion.

I had an acne flare up for my wedding as was 15 weeks pg!! Ended up using camouflage (sp?) make up.

colditz · 16/03/2007 21:29

you can get E45HC over the counter - it's 1%

vvvvvvv · 16/03/2007 21:31

aww poor you, im hoping it will go by then but as i said last time it was there for 7 weeks. what about the wash soluction its called emm ant remember i think it was called betterden?

OP posts:
vvvvvvv · 16/03/2007 21:35

just looked at some pics of inptigo i def aint got that so must be just a reaction to the make up as i do apply one product then a nother over the top so proble not letting my skin air as my skin is very sentive as it is

OP posts:
PeachyClair · 16/03/2007 21:36

Applying an antibiotic to a fungal infection can kill the 'good' bacterial coloes, causing the fungus to apread. Please, don't apply any more! The cream could well be exaccerbating any problems!

is it like this?

vvvvvvv · 16/03/2007 21:48

no i wont apply the fuciden cream thats the antibiotics but should i keep using the oilatum

OP posts:
wilkie50 · 16/03/2007 21:49

Just make sure you apply oil free products (won't clog your skin). I use Dermalogica which is fantastic for sensitive skin but a bit pricey. You can get it from www.care4yourskin.com

What make up products do you use?
