Endometrial ablation

Today I had the above done. Still groggy from anasthetisia but feel liberated. I keep pinching myself I've had it done. I Pray to God it's the end to the years of misery. As I went under the anasthetic the last thing I remembered was the face of the good looking Anastetist (yes one does remember thses things!) and the the words of my username echoing in head Confused, don't know why but it kep going round and round in my foggy head. Anyway, thanks for reading.

I'm having mine next week! (Along with a sterilisation). I'm a bit nervous. Perhaps we can update on our progress here?

Thanks for Monkey, and hops all ones well with you Monkey. I'm really hoping impartof the (85% as quoted by consultant) who stop bleeding g altogether. Can you just imagine a life without Periods? No more flooding, no more pain killers filling the drawers, no extra underwear in bags just in case...

How awful do your periods need to be to qualify to have this done?

Mine are very restrictive (home and work) and last for nearly 2 weeks out of 4.

I've just been referred to gynae for awful periods, hoping I can get this procedure done too! Hope you see good results OP.

Cross fingers for you. I had mine in January and felt the same, but I do still have periods. Much much lighter - like a super tampon every 4-6 hours, but I was a bit disappointed. Hopefully you won't, but just v in case...

Much - thats awful. I'm assuming you've seen your GP? Jus Keep going back. I think they usually like to prescribe pill after pill especially if you are still in your reproductionyears, but if age is on your side, (as in getting on a bit), I'm 48yts, you can push for ablation more easily as hopefully you've come to your end of having babies anyway. They really pushed for me to have the Mirena coil, it everytime I came on MN the horrors I read made me insist No each time. Im just the type that will go crazy after having it inserted.

Lisa - do you still get pain with it? I won't mind if it's minus the pain, sickness, shaking, diarrhoea etc. I'm trying o remember the name of symptoms you get before your period? My head is still very foggy, and I keep hearing Pre menopause in my headHmm, anyway, hopefully you know what I mean. Doyou get those as well after the ablation?

I've tried mefanamic and transfer antic acid but ended up with dreadful migraines. The flow isn't terribly heavy for more than 5-6 days but it still feels like I spend too long every month bleeding.

I've got a mirena in but think it can't be in the right position - waiting for an abdominal scan to check that any for anything else.

I'm 41, my family is complete and I'd be very happy to never have another period.

Sounds like you'll be good in stead to have it done since you've tried everything else and co pelted your family. Like I said, keep going back to your GP.

I had mine done 2yrs ago this July and have only had 2 very light bleeds since then! Yay !
It has changed my life. No more flooding, pain, anaemia, exhaustion etc
No downside for me at all :)

I am one of the lucky ones. Mine was done 3 years ago and haven't had a period since.

I get tender boobs and a slightly browny discharge when I wipe (sorry) for one day and that's literally all that tells me I'm on my period.

I had it done 2 years ago and I do still get periods but they are like normal periods rather than flooding hell! Most months I barely need a tampon, just a pad a day... And I'm no longer anaemic!

My periods no longer dictate what I wear or what I do and I'm so glad I had it done. I was sterilised at the same time and had 2 weeks off work to recover which I needed.

Theb Rapped air I'm .told either comes out of the front or rear. It's a bit painful when it moves around. It's very painful at the moment turning sideways in bed as I can feel the pocket of air under my ribs when. Do that. But I've also done a few burps, so I'm guessing it should settle down by tomorrow.

The tummy pain feels like period pain. But not so painful you're screaming, just uncomfortable and Paracetamol seems to deal with it, more than I can say for actual period pain.

I haven't used any pain killlers this morning, and sitting propped watching the Wright show! Apparently the PM and husband were on last night. In between I'm Mning.

Those of you wh got 'sterilised' as well, how did you wing that one? I'd have asked for that too. Is this the same as tube tying?

I cannot take contraception. I'm 36. My mirena fell out and made me lose a lot of blood, everything else I am not allowed to take because I get migraines. Mini pill - bleeding. It has been shit. My kids are teens so I just kept asking and asking and when they found I had fibroids multiplying in the womb that they would ablate they agreed to clip my tubes. I had to be really firm and go over and over my desire to not have more kids, all the reasons why etc, why partner can't have a vasectomy but they eventually said yes

I didn't know you could do that, would have asked for that as well, greedy aren't I? .

The other thing I thought I'd mention is, throat is a bit sore and feels like sand paper in my chest afterwards because of the tube they ram down your throat during surgery. My voice sounds very raspy, but hopefully all that will clear up as well. Advised to drink loads of fluids.

I did have to fight for it they don't really want to do sterilisation

I had an abalation last September. I'm 48. It didn't work at all and I'm now waiting for a hysterectomy.

I have fibroids and they rarely work with fibroids. I think only a small minority of women have no periods afterwards, most have some degree of bleeding and chances of a hysterectomy increase after an endometrial ablation.

Hoping yours works but keep in mind, it may not!
