Endometrial ablation

Today I had the above done. Still groggy from anasthetisia but feel liberated. I keep pinching myself I've had it done. I Pray to God it's the end to the years of misery. As I went under the anasthetic the last thing I remembered was the face of the good looking Anastetist (yes one does remember thses things!) and the the words of my username echoing in head Confused, don't know why but it kep going round and round in my foggy head. Anyway, thanks for reading.

Blasted I don't have any of the pain anymore (or, now you mention it, the diarrhoea!!) But I'm in a bit of a weird situation in that I had a chemo induced temporary menopause 5 years ago, and when my periods came back they weren't as painful. Still a bit crampy but not curled up on the floor screaming painful. The ablation turned apocalyptic monthly flooding into normal periods, and all pain and tummy troubles are gone. I'm still a grumpy cow for a couple of days though!

monkeyblonde · 13/05/2017 10:20

I'm preparing for my ablation and sterilisation next week, do I need to buy in any specific pain relief or other bits ahead of coming home?

gttia · 13/05/2017 19:38

I had mine last Feb. Didn't even bleed post op it's been amazing!

gttia · 13/05/2017 19:39

Sterilisation too - literally changed me

BlastedToSmithereens · 13/05/2017 19:55

Day four after ablation Smile.

I don't know about the sterilisation side of things, but as far as the ablation, I used pain killers once on the day and that was it. Just Paracetamol. No bleeding post OP,. I'll update further with whatever happens after the first month.
Good luck to all those going for their ablation/sterilisation. Please keep us updated afterwards to see how all is going, especially if it's just an ablationyoure going for, it will be interesting to get a measure of how successful we've all been, even if periods continue but are light and painless, I can live with that.

Well four years ago my periods started to become really heavy. Uncontrollable and flooding... so the first advice was mirena. The first one caused me so much pain so I went for a scan and it had moved! Had it removed and another one put in and because my bleed was still so heavy I was put on ceracette too. My consultant put me on the list for a endemitriol ablation. I bled for four months without a break... I think I had one day with a bit of discharge. It was awful. After about two months my second coil fell out... I think my bleed was so heavy it brought it down. Very painful.
Then about a week before my op the bleeding stopped. Overnight. I went in for the procedure anyway but after speaking to the surgeon it was decided that I would not have the op but it seemed that ceracete was doing its thing. And it continued to for about 18 months. I was bleed free!
And then it all came back... never as heavy as before, but periods lasting for 20 days, horrible brown discharge n between.. so I went back to consultant and we agreed to do the ablation.
I went in two days ago, when I woke up after I was in pain, but they gave me morphine for that. My main symptoms were from the anaesthetic . I couldn't wake up! Anyway.. went home and slept and since I woke up yesterday I haven't had any pain at all. I've had a tiny bit of watery discharge. so far so good!! I will report back with further symptoms as I when I get them!
I had a mirena fitted as well.. so third time lucky for me? Just wanna come off the ceracette! And there is still a risk of pregnancy after the ableation so I don't want that!
Anyway.. just thought I'd share my experience - I wish I'd had the op two years ago when I had the chance!
Good luck ladies!

I don't think it will work for my fibroids, it's possible I will need the other one which is embolisation but willing to give ablation a try. Surgeon I think wanted to at least give it a go because it's a small procedure.
Currently on a period day 1 which involved staying at someone else's house in their guest room on nice white sheets so I wore an INCONTINENCE PAD to contain it. Upset tummy always goes well with it too Sad

I had ablation in Feb of this year. First 2 periods were amazing! Only needed a panty liner. Then out of the blue, I had one day of flooding, stopped as quickly as it started.

Third period, back to how it all was before! This coincided with consultant appointment a couple of days ago - I have to go back in 4 months.....

All I want is a hysterectomy!

CornflakeHomunculus · 14/05/2017 17:35

I hope you get the result you're after Blasted. My mum had one then needed a second when the first didn't yield adequate improvements. That did the trick for her, she's so happy she went for it.

Nearly I'm currently weighing up whether or not to go for a hysterectomy.

I had my first ablation in May 2016 and although there was some improvement it still wasn't really tolerable so I went back in for another one just over a month ago.

I was so hopeful beforehand but came round to a very apologetic gynaecologist who said the neck of my uterus is so snarled up with scar tissue (Asherman's Syndrome) from the first one he couldn't even get the hysteroscope in to do anything.

I'm royally fucked off with the whole thing. Typically the Asherman's is bad enough to prevent further treatment but not so bad that it stops my periods. No room for a hysteroscope but apparently still plenty of room to be (warning: TMI) passing clots the size of my palm.

I've got the option of a hysterectomy if I want one but it seems like such a gamble (I'm terrified of needing HRT and not getting on with it as I've never got on with anything involving hormones) and my consultant is very much of the opinion that it's best to avoid having one if at all possible. When I'm not on my period the answer seems obvious: it's not worth the risk. Then I have a period and it's clear they're getting steadily worse again......

I've got an appointment in November with my consultant which he said to just cancel before then if I feel I can cope and if not to go along and we'll start talking about a hysterectomy. I've been trawling the internet recently trying to find out if ablations can be done laparoscopically but as that would be an option for me but I can find very little information.

Hi all, had the ablation and sterilisation done yesterday and came home in the evening. Feeling pretty sore this morning (bit similar to when I had my C section-goodness knows how I managed a newborn then!!) although unsure whether that's the ablation or sterilisation dressings.

I had the Mirena inserted to help with the heavy periods beforehand- they were due to remove it yesterday-however it was nowhere to be found! I can only assume it came out when I had a monster period about three weeks ago as I have actually been feeling amazing ever since! Was on the verge of cancelling the operation as I was feeling so good - and also could have been unknowingly pregnant which terrified me. I had put it down to the iron tablets I have been taking for my anaemia kicking in but now realise how the Mirena had made me feel both physically and emotionally. That being said I had it previously about 10 years ago and it was great then.

Would love to carry on sharing Pre op and recovery experiences.

crazycanuck · 18/05/2017 04:47

Those of you who had it done awhile ago, how long did you have the discharge afterwards? I'm 4 weeks post-op and still having watery pink discharge. At my follow up yesterday my doc said to just be patient, but considering why I had this done it's been a real pain in the arse to have to deal with this for so long.

lizzie1971 · 18/05/2017 06:09

I had endometrial ablation done 5 years ago and still only have slight spotting every month. It has worked fantastically for me and I feel very lucky.
Crazycanuck I do remember having watery discharge for at least two or three weeks after the procedure but it did stop and has been great ever since. Hope you have great results too. Flowers

monkeyblonde · 02/06/2017 13:14

Hello all, I'm 2.5 weeks post op and no more soreness or pain, but I still have a brownish discharge, and I'm worried I might have an infection of some sort. It doesn't smell quite right! Did anyone else have this?

monkeyblonde · 13/06/2017 22:25

Feeling cheesed off - period 1 since the ablation and although no major clots I'd call it medium to heavy. After so many years was looking forward to the respite especially as I'm still treating the anaemia :-((

I have my post op check in a couple of weeks and will obvs mention to my consultant then. Has anyone else had similar?
