Ok, here goes;

Since having ds1 about just over 3yrs ago I have had a problem with my fango about 5 times.

Every now and then a small area of either inner or outer lips becomes intensely sore and irritated.
It seems to be mostly when I am tired and worn out.

This time I managed to get a look at the sore area, it looks weepy and red, the area is about 1p sized and looks like broken skin.

It usually goes away after about 5 days, and then I forget about it.
It isn't any one particular place or size, but just one small area at a time.

Ok- the question is- is this herpes?
And how did I get it?

Or is it thrush?

Oh, I am regular and have just changed my name for obvious reasons, but did try to keep a sense of humour- though I am not really laughing too much today

Doesn't sound like thrush.

Trip to the doctor?

lurkylou · 24/02/2007 20:51

Doesn't sound like thrush.

See a doc and get it sorted.

Good Luck

Spidermama · 24/02/2007 20:52

Doesn't sound like thrush. Is it from rubbing or sex or does it just appear on its own? Because I have areas of what's probably scar tissue which can get inflamed when I'm, ahem, extra busy in bed.

you can get excema on your fanjo

fangitis · 24/02/2007 20:55

Nope, not due to sex.
And it isn't one particular area, this time it is right at the front, just at the top edge of the outer lips, so not really anywhere near the internal bits.
I don't have much of a scar anywhere, there was some stiches after ds2 internally that seemed to be causing a bit of apin for a while, but sonce my periods came back after ds2 then it all seems to work ok.
Not that it has been used too much

DH not reported problems, except the lack of action!

OP posts:
Enid · 24/02/2007 20:57

could be lichen

fangitis · 24/02/2007 21:02

Hmm, had a look at that- it is possible I suppose, but I just get one small area each time, not like a rash.

Anybody willing to share if they have herpes as I am really beginning to think it is this, but how?
Can you get it from staff at hospital when giving birth?
Sounds like a dumb ass question - I really don't want to google herpes.. just seems a bit grim.

Thanks for replies so far.

This does sound like herpes. I get mouth cold sores, but don't have them on my bits.

Thrush is absolutely not like this.

You should probably get yourself to the GP.

I'd wonder if it's possible that you were exposed to something while giving birth, or while in the hospital? What a horrid thought ...

NotQuiteCockney · 24/02/2007 21:13

Oh, it doesn't sound like genital warts, before you decide to worry about that one. Genital warts don't hurt.

fangitis · 24/02/2007 21:18

Jules99, thanks for that, I can't email out from this computer.

I will look for the thread too, thanks can'tsleep..

Is there anything that can be done for treatment if it is herpes?

I know it isn't anything to be ashamed of, but I feel totally broken by this, a combination of weight issues and having kids and age has wrecked my body and now this- I don't think I'll ever feel good about myslef again TBH.

Ha ha re the try not to get run down!
If I could onyl tell you about my week this week...but I don't really want to say as I just feel so wretched about this thing I don't want anyone I may meet to knwo about it.

It did involve working a 24hr shift and then taking ds1 to hospital and staying overnight with him.. so I am defintiely run down just now.

Have to say it DOes sound like herpes. I know as I have it. HAve always had cold sores and at about 18 noticed I was getting blistery sore bits on vagina. Has gone on for years and have recently noticed that I haven't had oe for a while. Taking a good multivit helps as does a mineral supplement called lysine.

fangitis · 24/02/2007 21:49

You are being so sweet, thanks, Jules99.
i really can't use the email here, it isn't connected up correctly and we are having boradband ishooos right now.

Did you have a swab taken?
And do they have to take it when you are having a bout of the sores?

I am sorry to ask over the forum- is there a good site you know about?

Hi jules - I found that taking Pregnacare every night really helped! A friend recommend the lysine and - yes it does help - when I remember! Easy to find too.

I must admit that I have read lots of magazine articles about it and never felt quite so bad as people portrayed in the articles. Have gotten to stage where I forget about it for the most part. Lack of sex helps!

Not ideal I know but is my life!
