Tooth extraction tomorrow and petrified.

Hello all

I am having my 2nd upper molar extracted tomorrow due to abscess and a big cavity.

I am petrified of dentists. However the tooth is a bit wobbly so would that make the extraction easier and quicker?

Also i am worried about the amount of bleeding i will have afterwards.

I suffer with health anxiety so worry about the littlest thing.

Im not scared of the actual procedure just how long it will take and the aftermath.

It'll turn out great but you can expect a bit of bleeding I think (but it won't be as bad as having one's period). Expect spending a day or two on the sofa, eating painkillers... Afterwards, you should go often to the dentist so you don't have to get big abscesses and big cavities. Invest in an electric toothbrush.

I had it done about a year ago - same tooth- and it was fine. I was anxious too but it was over quickly, I felt nothing and it didn't bleed that much after. You'll be fine.

Ooh I had a lower one out last year and was terrified. Absolutely shitting myself. My removal took about 15 mins or so, no pain, just pressure on my jaw which the dentist was using as leverage (she warned me about this)
She put a wadge of gauze in the socket which I had to bit down on gently for 30 mins, then remove, if it was oozing or bleeding to pop another one in (she gave me a spare) and to leave this one in for another 30 mins and that should do it, turned out not to need the second bit of gauze.
Not sure if wobbliness will ease the removal, but I would have thought so, my tooth was completely fucked!

I do use an electric toothbrush. I suffer with agoraphobia and panic attacks which has prevented me from going to the dentist. The only reason i went was because my filling fell out and i got an abscess.

I think im more concerned about thr bleeding as i cant stand blood.

Im hoping it wont take long. My tooth has nothing left to save due to the abscess.

If its wobbling id say yeh should come out easy enough.

I had four out last Summer and all went fine. No major pain afterwards and no pain during. Hardly any bleeding.

I was a bit swollen and the dentist had to drill into the bone for a couple. My skin made noises like bubble wrap for a couple of days after that. :)

Make sure you keep up with the ice on the face and stock up on cool liquids for the first day.

I threw up after two of them, so try not to eat too close to the extraction. But it was still fine. No infections or complications.

I had a bottom tooth removed a few months ago. It bled a little bit, but not masses and I barely felt a thing, just pressure. I did have pain for the rest of the week, but bottom teeth take a bit more yanking out than top teeth. The relief at having no more pain from the abcess was enormous. From start to finish, it took around 15 minutes. The only reason it took that long is because I have curly roots on my bottom teeth and she had to cut it in half to extract it. Again, I felt no pain whilst she was doing it. You'll be so glad it's done, try not to worry too much.

I will be glad when it is out as have been suffering all over xmas and new year and tomorrow was the earliest my dentist could get me in.

Try to book a check-up appointment with the same dentist (who you now know), maybe six months from now, so you can take care of any future problems before they get as bad as this.

I have had a couple of teeth removed and both times, although they did bleed a little afterwards, it was blissfully pain free. One tooth was very abscessed and the relief was immense. The second was a wisdom tooth that had cracked so they removed that one plus the remaining one the same side and again there was no pain afterwards and I did have a couple of stitches out in which I thought might irritate but we're fine.

I had a lower molar out just before xmas - 15 mins or so for the anaesthetic to take effect, a bit of time to get the tooth out - not painful, though obviously not exactly enjoyable. Then about 15 mins biting hard on gauze ... didn't really see any blood at all. Mine wasn't painful afterwards, but it didn't have a live root. I took it a bit easy for the rest of the day, fine thereafter.

It really was better out than in.

I've had my 2 upper wisdom teeth removed - both were wobbly. Piece of cake both times, no pain and no bleeding. Instant relief from the pain they'd been causing me.

Gonmakesitallok- was it easier as they were wobbly?

I had the same, an abscess which meant a molar had to be removed. Honestly it was over before I knew it, no pain and with a few doses of paracetamol I didn't notice any pain afterwards either.

My husband is terrible at the dentists and has been known to pass out in the chair so when he needed a molar removed he was terrified. I tried to reassure him but he didn't believe me. Afterwards he couldn't believe how quick and easy it had been.

I had a tooth out about 6 months ago for similar reasons. It was fine. I accidentally bit the poor dentist as I was biting down on his thumb unknowingly. It was pain free, not much blood and almost no pain afterwards. It was the best thing I had done for years. The tooth had been causing me pain for a very long time and I let my fear of the dentist stop me seeking treatment.

I didnt get much sleep last night. Got my appointment at 11.30 this morning and im so nervous.

I did it. I had it out. I was a complete wuss and i cried and panicked but stuck it out and its finally out.

Bravery is being afraid of something but doing it anyway.

I expect you're still in the numb phase, hope it doesn't hurt too much when that wears off, but you're over the worst.

The numbness is wearing off and is slightly achey but nothing major.

I keep tasting blood on my tongue and just dont want it to start bleeding again.

Im on another course of antibiotics for 5 days and gottta go back next week for a check up

Its more sore than pain now. It feels like i have sinus pressure abbit and my cheekbone feels a bit bruised.

Im so glad that it is out.

Does anyone know if i will be able to have a cup of tea now.

My dentist didnt say i could or couldnt. Im dying for one but dont want to irritate the clot?
