Cervical erosion....Please reassure me!

Examined by doc today as some abnormal bleeding after sex...
She concluded that there was a large cervical erosion and filled out a cervical cancer form.

I'm bricking it ☹️☹️☹️

Just looking for some reassurance really....

A ''cervical cancer'' form? I have never heard of a doctor automatically filling out a form with any kind of diagnosis based on cervical erosion.
I find that wildly hysterical for a GP to even suggest that on a first visit

Have you had any previous smear tests come back dodgy?

Did the GP explain what cervical erosion is, that some women are born with it and for the majority it causes no problems?
What course of action did your GP suggest happen, have they referred you? are they going to do a smear test?

I did think it was a bit dramatic....
My last smear August was clear BUT I remember it was quite painful and there was spotting after etc...
At the moment, bleeding after sex...

To be fair it wS t a cervical cancer form but the two week form but she clearly ticked suspected cervical cancer ☹️☹️☹️

I'm kind of hoping this is just to speed things along but just scared that the erosion was more scary looking than she made out?? Just worried now...

I think it's the referral form....but no she didn't really explain it just said that with onethis is the procedure ☹️☹️

Don't panic! I'd presume this is to speed up referral and cervical erosion is very common and easily dealt with

I'm not surprised you are worried hun. The 'C' word is scary.

It sounds like your heath authority have a pathway to follow and if there is anything LIKE suspected cancer, then they must follow this pathway - and HEY getting seen in 2 weeks is great.

Have a look hun theres loads of info on cervical erosion on the net and its not all horror stories

I have not had a clear smear in eight years, its either mild or moderate changes dykasarosis and I have been treated twice and then the next smear six months later, it will be back again. Now I am told that they do not know where these cells are coming from and I have a meeting with a consultants next week to discuss a hysterectomy. Right now I am more focused on my son who is awaiting some potentially life changing medical tests too

I'm not trying to 'do down' your own upset, just want you to know, you aren't alone hun.

I think waiting is going to be tough. In fact it wil be a right bastard. However the only thing you can do is to focus on the fact that for ''the majority of women, cervical erosion goes away on its own''

Just to add the 2 week pathway is in my town as well - year ago i discovered a boob lump and pretty much shit myself when i got an appointment through for a week later. It was a cyst

Please take this advice from someone who knows YOU DO NOT GO ON GOOGLE.

What you have is common and she will be speeding the process up. Do not worry.

No idea why your GP filled a cancer form in - cervical erosion is definitely not cancer! I have it twice (once while pregnant and once just after pregnancy). All I had was a smear to recheck the cells and it was left at that. I was reassured it would resolve by itself and it did. Symptoms were just light brown spotting mid cycle and all the way through one pregnancy. I'm sure all will be fine, it's a benign condition but maybe your GP is just cautious.

My practice nurse told me I had cervical erosion whilst carrying out my last smear. She wasn't overly concerned but did say it would probably effect the result. She was right as it came back 'borderline changes' but no HPV so no danger of cervical cancer. As others have said, its relatively common and should resolve itself. Definitely don't google!!

Did they take any kind of swab or sample? I had changes on my most recent smear and some postcoital bleeding, so have been referred to have it checked out. But I'm not on the 2-week pathway because I tested negative for HPV. This seems to be a new thing (in our area at least) as HPV negative means a much lower risk that it's cancer. If they haven't done that test, then presumably their protocol is to rush refer for any abnormal bleeding.

I had a cervical erosion in my 20's (20 odd years ago Shock). It was easily dealt with via cryosurgery and I had no further problems at all.

Hope that puts your mind at rest a bit.

I was told that I had cervical erosion back in my early twenties, no mention was made of cancer and, 30 years later, I've never fad an abnormal smear test.

I had cervical erosion shortly after my pregnancy, nurse confirmed it when she did my routine smear. I had no further intervention.

And I've not got cancer

I think there is an increased risk but so long as you keep on top of your smears you should be fine.

I had cervical erosion thirty-odd years ago, which was cauterised iirc in the gynaecologist's outpatients clinic. I've had 3 DC since, and no further problems.

Very odd behaviour by your GP.

Inexperienced?

I had a cervical erosion in my early 20s caused perhaps by going on the pill (hormonal changes can start it) and had it cauterised. That was almost 40 years ago...

They are very common and have no connection with cancer.

Your GP should have simply referred you to a gynae for observation, or left it alone. Usually they only treat it if it's bothering you and bleeding a lot.

...I know. Having read up (crazy googling-can't help it) now I'm wondering whether even though she told me it was a cervical erosion she also spotted something else more obviously sinister. Would that be possible??

Ah, I know there's nothing I can do now apart from see out this two week wait...I just wish she'd been more reassuring. Maybe I'm paranoid but she couldn't seem to look me in the eye, even when I was visibly shaken mostly because of her reaction...

Thanks for all the reassurance about the erosion. Maybe I should just focus on this and the fact all my smears have only ever been ok...😕

She was probably looking at what she was typing, that always seems to happen with GPs at my surgery.
If she'd seen something then she'd have to tell you. She's probably just being over cautious very conscientious and making sure that every remote possibility is considered.
