What on earth is wrong with my arm?

NickNacks · 04/12/2016 20:43

I haven't injured it s fair as I know but I woke on Friday morning with what I thought was a dead arm from sleeping funny but it's just got worse and worse.

If I was standing facing you with my arms down by my side, the bit that hurts is facing forwards, towards you.

I can't lift my arm over my head, take my jumper if by myself for example. It feels weak but isn't weak if that makes sense. I also can't stretch it out to the side, in front of me or across my body but backwards is fine.

Any ideas? I'm quite worried.

Hopefully someone medical will come along and advise. Just wanted to send some warm wishes and hopes for a quick recovery. Will you see doctor tomorrow?

YerTiz · 04/12/2016 21:05

Which arm is it OP?

NickNacks · 04/12/2016 21:14

My left arm, non dominant.

Thank you for the good wishes. Going to the doc is difficult due to work but I might not have a choice.

Could it be a trapped nerve I wonder?

AngryVagina · 04/12/2016 21:17

Sounds like you don't have a choice, hope someone comes along with an idea soon by I'd be a little concerned too!

endofthelinefinally · 04/12/2016 21:19

Please - just go to GP or walk in centre.
My friend had this. He had had a stroke.
The quicker you get assessed the better.

RandomMess · 04/12/2016 21:21

Could be a trapped nerve BUT you really really should get it checked out NOW just in case.

PopGoesBang · 04/12/2016 21:22

Could it be like a tendinitis? You don't have to have 'done' anything in particular it just builds over time.
Have you tried a wrapped ice pack on it? Anti inflammatories may help too.
Worth nothing it with the GP in case it's on going or flares again.

Hope it eases for you soon

headinhands · 04/12/2016 21:23

Hm yeah I'd see my GP sooner rather than later. I've woken up with randomly painful limbs but not where I didn't have full movement of it.

NickNacks · 04/12/2016 21:23

It's not a stroke. I've had it since Friday and no other symptoms. Thank you though. Smile

Possibly frozen shoulder, do seek help ASAP.
Best wishes, Thanks

NickNacks · 04/12/2016 21:25

I will try some ice packs and ibuprofen, good idea.

Tight bra strap? Over hoiking my norks has given me a tingly arm before Blush

lljkk · 04/12/2016 21:38

sounds a lot like frozen shoulder. Find videos on youtube that can help you possibly diagnose it or assess what other shoulder thing it could be.

pklme · 04/12/2016 21:39

Trapped nerve. Chiropractor if you can afford it. Ibuprofen and ice.

ruthieruthuk · 04/12/2016 22:33

I had an injection when i was pregnant and had similar thing, my arm hurt for weeks like someone had thumped me, hard!

TheFirie · 05/12/2016 00:24

Are you aware of the FAST acronym for stroke?

Face Dropping
Arm Weakness: inability to raise arm completely
Speech difficulty
Time : one or more symptoms, act quickly and see a doctor.

It might a zillion things but your description is spot on for the A for FAST stroke detection .

GO and see a doctor, might be nothing, might be a TIA and your arm weakness could be a residual symptom.

FretYeNotAllIsShiny · 05/12/2016 00:44

I had something similar. I could put my arm, bent, out in front of me but couldn't lift it above my head, couldn't lift the kettle with that arm, couldn't brush my hair etc. It was rotator cuff tendonitis. Lasted about a month. I called it my t-rex arm, the kids thought it was hilarious. I didn't, it was my dominant arm.

NicknameUsed · 05/12/2016 09:00

I'm with TheFirie on this. OH has had a silent stroke - no symptoms at all. It was only discovered when he was having a CT scan for something else. They found an area of the brain with damage that could only have been caused by a stroke - a full stroke, not a TIA.

So, please go to the GP if only to rule this out.

NickNacks · 05/12/2016 10:04

I have a doctors apppintnent for this morning.

The reason I don't think it's a strike sign is because I have pain there rather than just lose of movement iyswim.

Will update you after I've been.

NickNacks · 05/12/2016 12:43

togetherlikeglue · 05/12/2016 13:14

Ouch. Hope you get better soon! Glad it isn't stroke or something like that.

Allalonenow · 05/12/2016 17:16

Oh you poor thing, no wonder you've been in such pain. Hope they can quickly sort it out for you.
