What on earth is wrong with my arm?

I haven't injured it s fair as I know but I woke on Friday morning with what I thought was a dead arm from sleeping funny but it's just got worse and worse.

If I was standing facing you with my arms down by my side, the bit that hurts is facing forwards, towards you.

I can't lift my arm over my head, take my jumper if by myself for example. It feels weak but isn't weak if that makes sense. I also can't stretch it out to the side, in front of me or across my body but backwards is fine.

Any ideas? I'm quite worried.

Sounds like a frozen shoulder to me. I've had one for years (right shoulder) and it can make your whole arm hurt. It also hinders you in raising your arm above your head for dressing, brushing your hair etc.

Ouch OP. Just seen your update. Best wishes for your recovery.Flowers

omg, how are you now OP, any diagnosis or cure?

NickNacks · 05/12/2016 19:24

I haven't been able to go yet. I had mindees with me all day. I've given parents notice that I cannot work tomorrow so I can go and get it x-rayed. All were great except one. There's always one isn't there. Hmm

Hang in there. Flowers

Just make sure you have a pulse in your wrist OP. if not, and it IS a shoulder dislocation, I think it may cause future nerve damage and risk of recurrent dislocation.

yeOldeTrout · 06/12/2016 20:46

any news?

NickNacks · 06/12/2016 21:06

Had my x ray this morning but have to wait for the report to be sent to my GP by the end of the week. They couldn't tell me anything. Sad

it can't be dislocated, then... is it any more mobile/less painful now?
Sounds like a soft tissue injury then, take longer to heal, sorry.

NickNacks · 07/12/2016 18:16

Why can't it be?

I'm not medically qualified but DH dislocates his shoulder too often.
It hurts like hell. It needs fixing ASAP.
Whatever you have isn't urgent & isn't clearcut best way to treat it.

NickNacks · 07/12/2016 20:58

She didn't say a full dislocation where it comes out of the socket and is obviously misshapen and excruciating. As I said above she wanted to check for a partial dislocation, where it's not fully in the socket and central. I have limited/no mobility in certain directions and moderate pain. It would be fixed with physio.

I have a rotator cuff tear. Will need about 12 weeks of physio which I just can't commit to without letting down some families. Times like this that I wished I worked in an office.

You have to do Physio, it's really important or it could get worse. It's hard for parents but you have no choice.

Physio will sort it Flowers

It would be well worth you at least starting treatment, they may give you excercises for you to do at home, which if you did them daily would really help you.

As your condition improves it's likely that they will just monitor your healing.

You can't go on as you are, in pain/discomfort, and I would think with your work being active, your condition will get worse if you have no treatment.

All the best. Thanks
