I had my daughter on 17 April last year. She is now 18 months old. I haemorrhaged twice and have not stopped bleeding since. Sometimes it's extremely heavy. Totally running down my legs even with a sanitary towel. I've been to my gp and admitted to hospital about 10-15 times and am now referred to gyno. She has tried me on 4 different pills. And none have stopped the blood.
My question is how long am I supposed to put up with this before something is actually done.
It's draining me totally.
Last month I was admitted to hospital and the doctor said I can't put up with this forever and to think about having my uterus removed. Which I actually want now as I'm totally sick of bleeding.
However my gyno refused this and opted for me to have a coil fitted

I've woken up this morning with it dropping through my pyjamas.
Can anyone advise me on how I can get these professionals to take this seriously and the effect it's having on my life.
Any advice welcome

That sounds horrific! You must be anaemic with that level of blood loss? What investigations have they done/what do they think is causing it? A hysterectomy would surely be an extreme solution?

They have treat me for a pelvic infection, I've had about 4 lots of antibiotics through the time.
I just feel like if the pills haven't stopped the bleeding, then is the coil going to? I'm totally at the end of my tether. It is effecting my relationship and my state of mind at times.
I was told to have a smear by the doctor at the hospital however when I went they said there was too much blood.
I've had internal/external scans and they can't find anything. I'm a healthy 28 year old. I'm so tired of this. I just can't see the light at them end of the tunnel. I cry all the time because I feel grotty and constantly bleeding. I just don't know what else I can do.
I am booked to have the coil fitted on the 28th November. Is it going to work? Probably not

Have they checked your hormones?

It sounds like they are taking you seriously but don't really know what the problem is. Try asking for a different gyno.

Yes I've had my bloods checked loads of times.
I don't feel they are. I feel like 18 months of bleeding would send any woman insane.
I feel like something serious needs to be done. Not a coil that will probably make me bleed more.

It's just presumably you would have seen different people each time. It sounds horrendous and I agree would drive anyone mad. But if there was a quick solution to it I should a dr in all those visits and hospital stays would have found it.

It sounds like you need emotional support with it and re the impact it's having on your life rather than them to take you seriously as to the actual medical problem.
Do you want more children? A uterus removal would have very long term impacts.

No I have 2 children and was told after my little girl that it's unadvisable to have anymore due to the haemorrhages.
I just don't know how long I'm expected to go on with this until they say enough is enough.

Is this the sort of problem where OP could write to PALS demanding a referral to a different consultant, perhaps out of her area ? I'd be researching specialist departments in other hospitals. Isn't there a health ombudsman or something ?

The expense of the sanitary towels must be horrendous, let alone the exhaustion and inconvenience.

This sounds horrendous. I use to have horrible flooding - not constant like you are but every so often - and I had a coil fitted which did stop it.

I am in hope a gp or professional sees this and could advise me further as I honestly feel I'm going nowhere fast

Footle that is true I go through about 3 to 4 packs a week. I would totally be understandable if it was 6 months in. But we're looking at nearly 2 YEARS.

So you're disappointed that the gym has blocked the hysterectomy? I'm sorry you're going through such a horrible and frustrating time but I don't think any professional on here is going to advise you against the opinion of doctors who have actually examined you. Maybe try to see another gyno, as a pp suggested.

Have you had the coil fitted? I hope it does help as it did for Dizzy.

On a trivial practical level - have you tried a mooncup or similar? They hold more blood and after the initial expense would be a lot cheaper than all those pads.

No im not. I'm frustrated it has been left to go on this long and it's still ongoing. I've never heard of a moon cup. I have been using sanitary towels because when I use tampons the blood drips out of me. It's not like a usual period. It drips out of me making it very uncomfortable. Two weeks ago I was doing my food shop with my little girl and had a sanitary towel on which I put on at 8.45. At 10.05 it was dripping down my legs and I had to rush out and come home. Therefore I feel with things like this it's having a massive effect on my life. And these pills etc aren't working. I'm not being an ungrateful patient but I really feel it's been going on far too long and something needs to be done.

It does sound so awful and I can't imagine having to deal with it for so long, but it does sound like the doctors have been trying to help. It's a shame you have to wait so long for the coil, you could look into bringing that forward?

Mooncups are a brand of menstrual cup. They're great, I'm fairly lucky with my periods and using a mooncup I almost forget I'm having one. I'd really recommend giving them a go. You'd probably still need pads as well but it should give you that extra barrier and you wouldn't go through the pads so quickly.

Gizmo I went through similar after the birth of my second child, it was exhausting and awful. Taking DC1 to school was difficult, I could flood the largest of towels in an hour. Doctor suggested I try a Mirena coil and I did, it was worked for me, went from constant blood loss to a little spotting every month. Hope you get the same result.

If you are certain no more children then they should be listening to you more re a hysterectomy. After all men get a vascatomy at a snip of a hat (No pun intended) and for much less reason. Make it very clear to your gp/gyno this is what you want and don't accept no for an answer.

They basically told me after second birth it would be unadvisable/dangerous to have another due to haemorrhaging twice. Once straight after birth then once at home a few days later.
The gyno doesn't really seem to listen and because of my age seems to think I'm having a gap in pregnancies therefore going for different pills then the coil as the final option.
The doctor at the hospital said if this coil doesn't work I'm within my rights to request the hysterectomy but because she was just an on duty doctor I doubt I can go with what she said.
The gyno has said forget about the smear now and have the coil. Well surely the smear is important but it can't be done whilst bleeding( but doc at hosp said it could be)

It's the whole messing about, examinations constantly, and just feeling so shit all the time. I can't see it ending. I should be more positive really

Due to where I live. In the middle of nowhere, the gyno only works every other week and my doctors don't fit coils. She has to prescribe me one. I have to collect it then take it up to the gyno for fitting.

She also wants me to get swabs next week before having the coil fitted so she can rule out any infection.

This is horrendous. You're really not being unnecessarily negative, it sounds awful. And if you were having constant nose bleeds I imagine something would have been done by now.

I really don't know what the answer is but would second the posters who suggested badgering your gynae and GP for a definite plan. 18 months of constant bleeding is horrific.

Thanks infra. I will just have to wait and see now. Today is pretty horrific. I have used 3 pads already and it's not even lunch time. I will be glad when it's sorted

Sounds absolutely awful. Fingers crossed the coil fixes it and if not demand demand hysterectomy - this is not something you should have to put up with and I agree they should listen to you more about that if that's what you want.
