I really don't know what to say Misdee

Thinking of you all

misdee · 11/02/2007 16:47

i'm back. as sparkly says it appears to be a mini stroke or TIA(?is that right medical bods?), his limbs are fine, his reflexes are fine, he just doesnt have a clue whats going on. he didnt know who i was, who his mum was. he has gone into a toddler state and looks very bewildered and lost really. he couldnt remember which way the doors opened, or really why he was there. he didnt know whatthe LVAD was for, but fortunatly does now, and does now he is waiting for a transplant.

he has had a chest x-ray done, he will have a brain scan (he says to check he still has one), and an ultra sound as well.

he isnt dehydrated at all, has been drinking plenty. he has started oxy-norm liquid in the last week which is being looked at to see if thats what caused it.

he is pretty upset and confused. his mum is with him, and will stay till this evening. he is texting me and asking me stuff which we have already gone over this afternoon.

i hope this isnt permanment. its going to be very hard, especially as this week is half term, and dd2 has SALT everyday, in the middle of each day.

What have the medics said re prognosis? Are they confident that things will improve?

Sorry that you are going through this on top of everything else.

Furball · 11/02/2007 16:54

thinking of you all, very very , hopefully he will recover his memory, the brain is a very weird and wonderful thing.

misdee · 11/02/2007 16:54

i've no idea freckle, until the rest of the tests are done tomorrow and this episode is dx, then they dont really want to say.

his memory has been bad since his last stroke in oct 05, so i dread to think what this one is going to do.

So sorry Misdee x

moondog · 11/02/2007 17:02

Misdee,do you have a social worker?
You are under intolerable strain.
It would help so much if someone could take your dd to salt sessions for a start.
Also have you tried your local Surestart and Homestart schemes?

misdee · 11/02/2007 17:03

oh if it is a TIA or stroke, he will be removed from the transplant list for a while

That painkiller is an opiate typw which can cause confusion and low blood pressure

PeachyClair · 11/02/2007 17:30

Oh Misdee

U can't believe theyd take him off the list- the more he needs it the further back they seem to shove him

Hope its as a result of the medication, or at the least a TIA as opposed to a full stroke.

to you all

we will be fine, we have gotton through a lot worse than this,

if it is a stroke/tia then he will be taken ofr the list to give body time to recover, last time he was off for 3 weeks. hopefulyl tomorrow will be clearer.
