Not had a fag since yesterday morning, sucking furiously on nicotine lozenges.
Apart from the money, please tell me some nice things along the lines of better skin etc, i need some support and am quite vain!
So anything about me looking better will help. CHEERS!

here

CountessDracula · 08/02/2007 15:46

you will not end up with a mouth like a cat's arsehole

Heathcliffscathy · 08/02/2007 15:49

you will look younger, you will not stink, your clothes will not stink, you children will not stink when you've held them, you will breath easier starting very soon.

hunkermunker · 08/02/2007 15:49

You are less likely to go blind - macular degeneration much more common in smokers.

agree you will not stink.

And you will not have to panic every time you run out/go somewhere where you can't smoke/etc.

When the pubs etc change over you won't be the loser outside in the rain and wind.

Caligula · 08/02/2007 15:51

You smell so much better than you did the day before yesterday

liquidclocks · 08/02/2007 15:51

On a serious note you're much more likely to see grandchildren, great grandchildren, not die by suffocation...

well done! - keep at it, it's worth the effort.

Also you won't stink anymore (no offence!)

CountessDracula · 08/02/2007 15:51

You won't be old by the time you are 55, puffing and wheezing just to walk up a hill

It doesn't just shorten your life, it severely degrades the quality of the life you do have too

jalopy · 08/02/2007 15:53

People will want to sit next to you

mmelody · 08/02/2007 15:54

Your hair won''t smell like an ashtray at the end of the day, you will still be able to smell the shampoo! Your skin will start to look glowing and healthy within a month. You won't wheeze when walking up hills. You will feel fresher and lighter. You won't feel chained to a packet of cigarettes.
I gave up 4 months ago (after 20 years of heavy smoking)when I found out I was pregnant. Its been hard but I definately feel better for it. I wouldn't start back smoking again as it was so damned hard to stop. It DOES get easier honestly. Buy some nice little cosmetics with your fag money!

Freckle · 08/02/2007 15:54

You'll have oodles more dosh to spend on what you want. You won't have to stand outside wherever you are to have a smoke when out in public. Your teeth won't go yellow (unless you replace the fags with curries ).

You can save money on air fresheners as they won't be needed anymore - or as much. Your children will thank you.

Dinosaur · 08/02/2007 15:56

You'll really quickly get rid of that irritating cough.

hoolagirl · 08/02/2007 16:00

Ah healthy glowing skin, thats something i've not seen since i was preggy and stopped.
Nice smelling hair and clothes is working as well.

You know what really helped me when i was in this place

The thought that my craving for a fag was all a big con

It's not like it actually does anything for you is it? Why is it that there are 3000 words for getting drunk, pissed, arseholed etc but not ONE for the effect that smoking has on you (ooh I'm gonna go out and get really nicotined tonight doesn't really sound right does it?)

And that is because....it doesn't DO ANYTHING! All it does is stop you craving a fag. So it it one big con really.

so break the cycle and hey presto (hopefully)

UCM · 08/02/2007 16:16

Dh & I am giving up on Monday. He has zyban and I am going cold turkey. I have the Alan Carr book and thats it. I am very scared of being without cigarettes but know the health aspects etc.........I should have given up when pg I know but didn't so am going to try now.

I will be watching this thread and joining you Monday.

jalopy · 08/02/2007 16:33

UCM, giving up smoking and half-term week? Respect.

brightwell · 08/02/2007 16:46

My dp stopped smoking on Jan 2nd, having smoked for over 30 years. He is now telling me how nice I smell, I always wear the same perfume. And he's saying food taste brill, even though it's the same dish I've always cooked, so his sense of taste & smell is a lot better. And he no longer goes through the ritual coughing session (bump starting his lungs) with a towel over his mouth to muffle the sound, every morning.

hellobello · 08/02/2007 17:34

If you smoke again, you'll just want to smoke some more. That's what I think of when I REALLY feel like smoking again. You'll be getting far more oxygen to your brain too. Cigarettes are really bad for fertility. Just think about all the things that make you feel youthful shrivelling up before time!

Dophus · 08/02/2007 17:39

Not constantly clearing your throat (ahem). Smelling and not smelling. You'll soon walk past someone that has jsut had a fag and think I can't beleive I used to stink like that.

Keep with it - it gets easier (I quit 2.5 years ago after a pack a day for over 15 years)

Money - put £4 a day in a pot and every month go and buy something nice.

hoolagirl · 08/02/2007 18:33

I know if I have a fag i won't even enjoy it, its the habit!
Feeling strong and more youthful by the minute!

fryalot · 08/02/2007 18:36

If you have another cigarette now, the last 24 hours of hell that you have been through will have been for nothing and you'll have to do it all over again. I have not had a cigarette since November and it does get better, I promise.

Coolmama · 08/02/2007 18:40

you will have a nice pink tongue as opposed to a disgusting one coated with thick white stuff!
your skin will start to improve after a week.
Kissing you won't taste like licking an ashtray.
and the thing that struck me the most after I stopped smoking was when I opened up my cupboard and this waft of stale smoke would overwhelm me and I realised that I smelt like that all the time!!!!! - got washing and cleaning pretty quickly.
Also, you will start to become aware of how other smokers smell in shops, lifts and queues and it will be revolting to you!

fryalot · 08/02/2007 18:45

and, soon, when somebody offers you a cigarette, you can say "no thank you, I'm a non-smoker"

Coolmama · 08/02/2007 18:47

oh and also, the sheer relief of not being antsy for a cigarette all the time - means you can relax into your day and just get on with what needs doing instead of planning your day around when and where you can smoke!
