So who has/had sick children over this Christmas break?

I shouldn't complain really because dd is not that bad but she has got ANOTHER cough (and had croup v badly on Xmas eve) and I have only managed a few hours sleep each night since Xmas eve ggrrr. I really look AWFUL and wouldn't even trust myself behind the wheel of the car today. Strangely enough, even though she is coughing almost all the time, she seems fine and even appears to be sleeping when she's coughing! arrrggh

so who else has sick little ones?

Not children (thankfully) but i did my back in on Christmas Eve and it got progressively worse until yesterday when I had to go to out of hours doc and got painkillers (had to cry first as they suggested paracetamol and ibuprofen might be sufficient!). Much better today.

Do feel for people with sick wee ones. Not nice.

Hi, Our dd woke up on xmas xve with ANOTHER cold, which will almost def turn into another ear infection.
Then she was sick on christmas day evening on the way back from inlaws to my parents - all over her coat and new clothes. She then had lots of yukky nappies so we decided to go home ( even though she seemed ok in herself) as we didn't want to risk a bad night in a diff house.
My dh and I have been on and off the loo (me worse than him) all boxing day and through last night.

I actually feel quite cheated as we didn't get to stay over at Mums( and thats the first time ever at christmas) and I feel that xmas is going by without me enjoying it properly. I just feel pants for the kids. I know I know that we are a lot better of than lots though btw.
And dh has been fab. I've had 3 lie ins in a row and he took the kids to supermarket this morning while I was in bed.

DD1 threw up all Christmas eve and Christmas morning. DD2 has an ear infection (after two miserable weeks with heavy cold) and DH has man flu. Need I say more?!!
Roll on Jan 2nd - I have had enough of being festive on my own, want a "normal" house back!

foxinsocks · 27/12/2006 11:04

omg D&V awful over Xmas and even worse at other people's houses! Carol, can you not delay leaving for a day or so till you feel better?

why do out of hours doc do that tassis? as if you'd bother making an appointment if nurofen and paracetamol were working!

I do now, Dd1 threw up all over and down the side of her bed at 1 this morning. She said she doesn't feel sick now but still has stomach ache.

Dd2 has stomach ache and looks very pale, and I feel very wishy washy so it's not looking good.

Only person who seems fine so far is Ds.

foxinsocks · 27/12/2006 11:10

oh no nutty! And I imagine you're the one who has to clear all the sick up aswell (down the side of the bed, a serious pain, covering more than one surface no doubt!)

oh how comforting to see other people in a predicament over xmas. sometimes feels like everyone is having a great time except you.

ds was teething/ very bad chesty cough/ cold since 18th Dec and wasn't eating anything or sleeping well at night. would only stop crying if being held upright. difficult to prepare for xmas when constantly holding child, not to mention knackering.

then i got a truly awful cold on xmas day and haven't been able to taste ANY xmas food! has meant i've eaten less. anyway ds started eating again yesterday which is a treat to behold, and the best belated xmas present!

Oh yes foxinsocks, all up the wall, over the bed, over and in the toy boxes under the bed.

Also yep tis just me to clean it all up which is freaking me out a bit especially if i am gonna get it to, but will just have to get on with it i suppose.

Clayhead · 27/12/2006 11:15

Parents, children and dh sick here.

EllieChocolateOrange · 27/12/2006 11:15

sorry for you, nutcracker. sick is such a horrible smell. hope it's a violent but quick bug.

vitomum · 27/12/2006 11:16

ds has been totally wiped out since friday with a flu type thing . I am so gutted for him - he should have been having the time of his life and he hasn't even unwrapped half his presents. Me and dp were really looking forward to it too as this is the first tme he has been properly aware (he is 2.5). The whole thing has been a total dissapointment

Wilbur · 27/12/2006 11:17

Ds2 was in hospital overnight the week before Christmas with massive temperature, breathing probs etc and they thought he might have a low-grade pnuemonia. Thankfully he was okay and was discharged once they'd got his breathing under control, but he remained really sick with a high temperature for about 5 days during which time he gave the whole thing to everyone else in the family. Ds1 and dd are still hacking away (not as bad as ds2 as they are older) and I sound like I smoke 40 a day. In a funny way though, it made Christmas quite relaxing as I just gave up on all the things I was "supposed" to do and just hung out with my sleepless, clingy boy. So the house is a pigsty and we have no clean clothes or mince pies left, but who cares?

foxinsocks · 27/12/2006 11:18

lol carol - you are having a right time of it (am visualising an image of a washed-out, beaten woman!)

hope you don't get it nutty or at least if you do, it's over quickly. They are vile these D&V bugs.

ellie - there is something about babies only sleeping when they are held upright. I'm sure it's designed to torture the person holding them! There is just no comfortable way to get that pose right.

EllieChocolateOrange · 27/12/2006 11:21

yes, foxinsocks, don't you find your blocked is better when upright too? so doesn't surprise me! just blimming tiring doing it all night...and he is 13 months, so not a nice light little baby anymore!

PanicPressiePants · 27/12/2006 11:22

Conjunctivitis here. Started on saturday, just when all the gp are closed and the chemists wouldn't sell us the drops as ds is under 2

So of went went to sit it out at the out of hours doctors.

Ds is now fully fit, and full of beans now it's all over

EllieChocolateOrange · 27/12/2006 11:22

wilbur, that's a GREAT attitude. yes, i guess watching 'murder she wrote' at about 3am in between doses of ibuprofen could be termed 'hanging out'.

foxinsocks · 27/12/2006 11:25

oh vito, could you just do Xmas when he's better? he won't know it's on the wrong day

wilbur, how frightening - glad he is Ok

dd has timed her worst croup for when the cricket has been on (the Ashes) - although, England have been so bad, it's almost a worse torture watching the cricket than listening to her cough

(((())))) Hugs to all to wish your DC's and yourselves feel beter really soon!

DS (2 wks) has a nasty cold, MW has seen him today and says he is looking well apart from his sniffles so not to worry too much.

Both DD(3) and DH also have colds, but now I am not PG anymore my immune system seems to be on my side again!

Wilbur · 27/12/2006 11:38

I am glad though that so far we have not had the D&V thing that has been doing the rounds, and big sympathy to those who've got it. There were several kids with it in the hospital when ds2 and I were there and they were on drips to rehydrate etc, poor things. One 7 yr old had it v badly, hadn't kept enything down for about 5 days and the poor kid was almost transparent. I really felt for his mum.

HaggisSupper · 27/12/2006 12:39

I felt sick all Christmas day. I couldn't even manage my dinner and I LOVE Christmas dinner. DS was sick 5 times through the night on Christmas day but touches wood seems to be better now.

I feel so sorry for all these poor kids in hosptial over Christmas. My nephew is 6 weeks old and was in for a few days beforehand with a viral chest infection. Het got out on Christmas Eve but he's still not 100%. He is a lot better though, thankfully.

Gem13 · 27/12/2006 12:41

Really nasty coughs here with DS - every 5 minutes through the night, lots of bed swapping, alternate Calpol and Neurofen every 2 hours. He hasn't eaten for 3 days. DD is starting to cough now too. I've been on antibiotics for sinusitus and have a filthy cold which means I can't taste or smell anything and I'm 2 days away from my due date with number 3!

I might stay in hospital when the baby arrives just to get some sleep!

mumfor1standfinaltime · 27/12/2006 12:46

Well ds has also had a bug here. Dh and I have been ok though.
Ds has been sick a few times and had messy nappies followed closely by nappy rash, lovely.
He had most of this in the run up to Christmas though, and by Christmas Eve he was much better. Today he has a runny nose, but better than he was!

Shouldn't complain really as last Christmas we all had a nasty bug and stayed in bed for most of it!

LRWG · 27/12/2006 12:50

DD (7 months) has been ill for the past two weeks with projectile vomiting and then a cold and nasty cough. She is pretty much over the vomitting and back on full strength milk again yesterday and her cough and cold seem to be easing a little. The GP said last week that it is probably a virus and will pass, but she now has about a dozen spots all over the nappy area, including the small of her back. She also has a pimply (sp) rash on her chest and under her chin, but these spots are much smaller. Poor love!

DH felt sick all day yesterday and I've got a horrific cold and - just to make me look even better - FOUR coldsores! I'm sooooo pretty!

We've missed out on three family parties and I'm feeling very sorry for myself today, although very grateful that we've got nothing worse and we'll all be fine again in a week or so!
