So who has/had sick children over this Christmas break?

I shouldn't complain really because dd is not that bad but she has got ANOTHER cough (and had croup v badly on Xmas eve) and I have only managed a few hours sleep each night since Xmas eve ggrrr. I really look AWFUL and wouldn't even trust myself behind the wheel of the car today. Strangely enough, even though she is coughing almost all the time, she seems fine and even appears to be sleeping when she's coughing! arrrggh

so who else has sick little ones?

dd was ill about 2 weeks ago and is just getting over it now..thanks to friends of ours. I visited them the week before crimbo and they never mentioned that their ds was ill, only when dd came down with a virus 3 days later did they feel like mentioning the fact that their ds had been to the gp for a virus etc..arrrgghhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I mean, I know toddlers have to build up an imune system BUT ffs ideally NOT at chrimbo time, while i am 35 weeks pregnant so unable to take anything and certainly not while dh is self emp and can't take time off work..

DH & I were like zombies for a week+ as we were both up hourly for dd.Luckily I missed catching anything BUT dh was rough . Still not 100% now but has had to battle on.We even missed our group meal to catch up with friends as dh was so bad and we didn't want to leave dd with anyone when ill. Also we didn't want to be so cruel and pass it on. Thoughtful or what..?!

moljam · 27/12/2006 14:18

ds2 had chest infection, sickness and diarhoa and cold all at once!oh and red raw bum.

ledodgychristmasjumper · 27/12/2006 14:19

DD has had a bad cough, temp etc over Christmas seems a bit better today though. Ds now has it. I had a temp and felt like rubbish the three days before Christmas felt a bit better on Christmas eve night then on Christmas day began to feel queasy which resulted in a V&D bug on Christmas night and ever since. I am fed up of us all being ill. When I say all I'm not including dp who seems to have iron immunity to everything!

moljam · 27/12/2006 14:23

oh forgot ,we had mystery rash and high temp also so doctor rushed out and them medicine mix up which all turned out ok.

ledodgychristmasjumper · 27/12/2006 14:30

Oh yeah I forgot too lol We also had a rash that didn't blanch on dd on Christmas night, Got in touch with the out of hours Dr who told us if it was Meningitus it would get bigger over a couple of hours so we could watch her till then to see for definate I said so we're supposed to wait 2 hours to see if it's meningitus I said I said I think bloody not. We took her to get checked out and she just had a virus thank God! Why does it always happen at Christmas!

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 27/12/2006 14:34

We had vomitting all through last night (both dses) and diarrhea (oh sod it, can never spell that right) today.

Pinkchampagne · 27/12/2006 14:35

ME!
I had DS2 throwing up on the Wednesday before Christmas, followed by DS1 on the Friday before & H started with it on Christmas day. I am just waiting to get struck down myself now!

NbgSparklyYellowFeathers · 27/12/2006 14:37

Luckily dd managed to get over the worst of her cough and cold, oh and worms before xmas day but on xmas eve both ds and myself got the cough and cold and I also managed to jar my neck.
So its been great fun

ludaloo · 27/12/2006 14:38

ME! All my three lo have been ill. DD1 is still very poorly, dd2 is miserable and clingy and ds is now on the mend.

All had colds, high temps, vomiting, sore lips and noses

Dd2 had antibiotics just before xmas but they have all gone and she is still poorly

Its a nightmare bug!!!!!!!

ludaloo · 27/12/2006 14:39

Oh and VERY bad coughs...coughing til they are sick

NbgSparklyYellowFeathers · 27/12/2006 14:40

Yep coughing till we're sick here too!

mummydoc · 27/12/2006 14:41

DD2 in hospital christmas eve at 4am until late last night - really should have taken her in on friday but thought we could manage...christmas really spoilt and i feel pants baout it, just want to write it off and looking forward to 2007, i am going to try and have lower expectations next year...

FairytaleOfNewNORKSBRIDE · 27/12/2006 14:50

We've all had gastro. All 3 DCs were sick all night on Sat 23rd and all day Christmas Eve. DCs OK but not eating by Christmas Day - DS too tired too open his presents, bless! DH & I sick all Christmas night and Boxing Day. It was rubbish!

I'm going to award my washing machine a New Years Honour for services to laundry - it did 11 loads of washing over 48 hours - including 8 sets of bedding.

All better now though! And I've lost 1/2 stone!

FairytaleOfNewNORKSBRIDE · 27/12/2006 14:53

Hugs to Mummydocs DD. Being sick all night isn't fun but at least I had all mine at home. I hate having DCs in hospital. Have a better New Year.

foxinsocks · 27/12/2006 14:55

oh mummydoc, sorry to hear about dd - what was up with her?

Gawd, I feel sorry for all you lot with gastro . As you say misdee, it doesn't only mean being ill, it's all the sodding washing/cleaning on top that you end up having to do!

Dd has exactly that 'cough till you throw up' cough - in fact, I do feel a bit better that others have it as it must be doing the rounds gggrrrr (I am so hoping for more than a few hours sleep tonight! poor kids!).

fairytale - thankyou for the hug just what i needed, it sounds like it was just a grim at your house. I think my expectations of christmas always outweigh the actual event, i suppose i think the children will amjgically transform into sweet, well behaved, all vegetable eating darlings who carefully open each present and exclaim delightfully over each thing, and then we all sit down to n especially moist turkey with the children all eating spouts....dream on !!! but infact it is nothing like and now i am ruing all the time an dmoney and emotional energy invested in it, as in fact i saw nothing but hte inside of a hosptial, don't get me wrong i don't blame dd2 for being poorly but just feel sad for dd1 and dd2 as it was a crap day . though they probably see it differently.

Wilbur · 27/12/2006 15:08

Poor you mummydoc - that's tough on you and your dds. I know what you mean about Xmas expectations - they always fall a little short as I think we've all seen to many movies where everyone is well and happy, opening presents that have been wrapped beautifully, eating huge feasts from tables where everything matches.... I know I fall for the magazine spreads of Xmas fabulousness every year and never quite get there. Maybe you can have a second, extra Christmas Day when your girls are feeling better.

nutcracker · 27/12/2006 15:10

Dd1 is feeling a bit better since this morning, but dd2 is currently sat on the sofa with a bucket

averymerrymonkeymooXmastoyou · 27/12/2006 15:22

Not as bad as some of you poor MNers but had my sis and her family and my folks here and out of nine of us my DH, DD and me had streaming colds and hacking coughs - DD is also teething. My Dad is at the tail end of a chest infection as is my youngest nephew, my sister had a cold and my BIL has got stress induced depression so the only two people who were ok were my Mum and eldest nephew!
