Week 6 of 52 small changes - it's easy!

OddSocksHighHeels · 30/01/2016 23:37

After last week being pretty huge for a small change we get a nice easy one this week!

Take a daily multivitamin. That's it Smile

Some of you probably already do so feel free to add your own challenge instead this week. I don't and this is a quick and easy fix for me though I will need to buy some tomorrow.

Last week if you missed it: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2555507-Week-5-of-52-small-changes-a-focus-on-our-mental-health?pg=1&order=

And a reminder of previous weeks: drinking more water, aiming for better sleep, getting activity into each day, keeping a food diary and attempting to be more optimistic.

Everybody is welcome to join at any point and as Bewitched said previously: there is no failure. It's doing the best that you can personally do.

Thanks Rattie I might look into some of those others too.

I was doing better on the sleep until the last few nights! Dd2 has a cold and woke early (again) 5ish am. I dazed again after, at least tracking sleep gives me motivation to try to catch up with a nap or early night. Only managed 6 1/4hrs last night, I think I've got a blocked nose so not sleeping well even when dd2 asleep.

Water: good.

Activity: good number of steps, regular-ish yoga and have restarted some light weights (it's been too long and I've really regressed).

Multi-vitamin/supplements: I mostly remember.

Mental health: I need to do the Headspace more regularly, and get into the gratitude diary a bit more.

I'm getting there but not too worried about being perfect, 'cos life isn't. Doing my best Wink.

*dozed again

margaritasbythesea · 05/02/2016 06:59

It happened again! Didn't seem to be the neighbours. I slept like the dead and struggled to wake up.
it's frustrating as an early night always works wonders for me and I wake up all perky. At the moment I am going to bed early and wake up like swamp thing

DrDiva · 05/02/2016 08:24

Oh I don't know, quirky I daze quite often in the mornings!

margarita I did the same last night. My DH blames barometric pressure Confused

Water going much better, in fact I find myself drinking now because I want to. Activity still consists of 10,000 steps a day plus tearing around after the toddler. Remembering supplements most days. Bought some more yesterday.

DrDiva · 05/02/2016 08:25

Oh and rattie thanks for the list! Some of those look really interesting.

margaritasbythesea · 05/02/2016 13:55

Dr Diva ! Well, it seems to be as good as anything right now. I am totally exhausted today. I phoned the stonemason's I mentioned before and could barely string a sentence together. I am now hoping I am coming down with something Hmm

Anyone else realising how thirsty they must have been before without noticing? I keep noticing a vaguely dissatisfied feeling at times through the day and I now realise it is thirsty!

I realised that while I'm very good at taking my multi vit every day I was somewhat erratic at giving my DS his vitamin D drops - so that's been the habit focus this week. The biggest change for me is that after 3 years of trying, I'm finally managing to get to the gym. DS now sleeps through the night and a better sleep habit means that I am actually able to hit the gym early morning and be done by 7:30!! Would not have managed that without this thread so thanks to all of you. I am also trying to cut down on processed food and to not buy cake snacks for DS for his school treats - of course something has to give so as long as the next habit isn't to have a perfectly clean and tidy home I should be ok Hmm Had to cancel the smear test though as I've had a very long cycle this month and some very uncomfortable exchanges with DS - if I say the words public toilet and mooncup you can probably work the rest out yourselves!

Sirona · 05/02/2016 16:27

Thanks for the list Rattie. I love fitness blender workouts - so many to chose from. Like 12 minute athlete for making up HIIT ones of my own or Joe Wicks on youtube of Lean in 15 fame too.

All well today. Slept well last night, I'm off to the gym later for a HIIT class and have ate ok today, no sugar so far anyway. Water lagging a bit but I'll guzzle it later when I'm working out and just remembered to take my MV now.

I'm one of those consumers companies must love as I never change providers as I think it's a hassle. However, today I spent a bit of time sorting out upgrading my internet but bringing down the payments by switching providers for the first time ever. Tomorrow I'm going to look at the electricity and gas.

margaritasbythesea · 05/02/2016 16:53

I'm thinking of getting the Lean on 15 book. Has anyone got opinions?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 05/02/2016 19:54

Ach, Sirona switching is such a hassle and a frustration that it seems to take so long.
Really worth it though if you can get motivated Smile

I've managed nearly 2L of water today! I switched (hoho) from fizzy, which I like, to flat tap, which I don't. Glass instead of bottle and it's been so much easier.

And no burping.

Which is nice.

Pointlessfan · 06/02/2016 07:14

I'm finally feeling better. Have been rubbish on all the changes this week except sleeping. Going to try with water today and remember my vitamins.

quirkychick · 06/02/2016 14:21

Glad you're feeling better, Pointless , sleep, water and vitamins sound like a good start! Margaritas hope you feel better soon.

Sleep getting there slowly, dd2 woke in the night, but went back, I managed just over 7hrs. No chance of a nap at the weekend, but an early night I think.

Water good, not so much walking today as we had music, and it's not that far, I have restarted my (very light) weights and done some yoga camp. I'm a bit shocked at how weak I am at the weights. I had a chest infection over Christmas and then have done mostly yoga, so I've restarted with small weights and will need to build up. Yoga is a different type of strength, I think.

Vitamins for me and dcs all taken. Lamb shanks stew in slow cooker...

Headspace done, I'm definitely feeling more calm. Despite 3 disturbed nights.

Sorry I've not caught up. I've found the habit tracker really helpful. While i haven't done each thing 100% it's been a great space to think about what has been happening. To the new thread I go

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 07/02/2016 23:18

It is interesting isn't it IC to examine stuff that we usually just do on auto-pilot.
