Week 6 of 52 small changes - it's easy!

OddSocksHighHeels · 30/01/2016 23:37

After last week being pretty huge for a small change we get a nice easy one this week!

Take a daily multivitamin. That's it Smile

Some of you probably already do so feel free to add your own challenge instead this week. I don't and this is a quick and easy fix for me though I will need to buy some tomorrow.

Last week if you missed it: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2555507-Week-5-of-52-small-changes-a-focus-on-our-mental-health?pg=1&order=

And a reminder of previous weeks: drinking more water, aiming for better sleep, getting activity into each day, keeping a food diary and attempting to be more optimistic.

Everybody is welcome to join at any point and as Bewitched said previously: there is no failure. It's doing the best that you can personally do.

Daily multi-vitamin tick! I'd better check back at the other four I missed.

Yesterday I did really well til 8. I was tired but rather than put myself to bed I tried to wake myself up by eating. I suspect that sort of behaviour is why I have 95 pounds to to lose.

Oh just seen DrDivas post.

Water - yes. Easily 1.5 if not more
Sleep - my attempts are thwarted by a nocturnal toddler
Activity - nocturnal toddler is incredibly active in the day; parks, soft play. But I've also started yoga.
Food - need to reduce amount of chocolate. I have made an effort to make sure I eat 7-a-day (fruit & veg) not 7 bars of chocolate not every day at least
Vitamins - like a seasoned-pro.

Well done every one else!

Lots of lovely positive posts, well done.

Special Flowers for OddSocks for getting us here and her gentle way of keeping us here.

I am being very affirmative about food and sleep which I'm fabulous at.

I will walk quite along way tomorrow to do what I should have done today, and will buy multi vit. en route.

Will probably absorb enough rain to negate rubbishness at water consumption.

I was very positive today that I should procrastinate the boring stuff till tomorrow.

I suspect that use of procrastinate is wrong, but I like it, so it stands.

Wine

Bewitched I'm sure I heard somewhere that procrastinating is thinking through and rehearsing what you need to do, in order to do it better Wink.

A bit early for Wine, so I'll drink to you with Brew as dd2 had a grotty night. Being positive, I did manage 6 1/2hrs despite her being awake for hours.

Water and activity good, I find lots of walking/other activity makes me very thirsty so one helps the other.

We ate out a lot over the weekend, and I was still really hungry yesterday, but tried really hard to choose healthy options.

I did my Headspace but have been a bit crap with the gratitude diary, will try to catch up later today.

So a funny day here. Ending with a great visit with my psychologist. She has asked that a spend the next two weeks practicing saying to myself how my partner sees me and noting that down. This maybe the trickiest thing I've attempted so far. I burst into tears when I said my partner thinks I look beautiful.

Thanks Oddsocks totally agree with PP you are doing a great job keeping everyone motivated. Even me Wink although I need to work on wk5, I can get caught up in a spiral of negative thinking.

For week 5 I have some info on mindfulness and a thing called an ACE log (appreciation, effort and closeness rating log) to help you focus and appreciate things that you do (no matter how small). Happy to post the link or send the attachment of anyone is interested.

I'd like that shirking :)

Sleep ok once I got over which was the early hours of the morning. Dd was crying on and off until 1am so didn't see much point in getting down in until she was settled. Totally nothing to do with watching the last episodes of Sons Hmm

Your dd no better today quirky? I did see the sport relief steps advertised somewhere online, are you doing it yourself? I don't have a fitbit as my garmin does me for logging exercise only.

It is tricky trying to see ourselves as other see us ICJ, we are very all too often our worst critic and much, much harder on ourselves than anyone else would ever be. Good luck with your task :)

Activity nothing special but had a few appointments yesterday and a pile of washing to gte down so wasn't sitting on my laurels all day. Today I'm either going to make the gym or head for a run, wind dependent what it's like at lunch. Water has been lacking but will pick up if I exercise today and I've a glass down me with my multi vitamin this morning.

Food Grin always my downfall. We had fish and chips last night. Good excuse it was what dd asked for and considering she wouldn't eat anything other than fromage frais yesterday, I was willing to give it a go even if it was only a few mouthfuls. Will be healthier today.

this is the link for the ACE LOG

The idea is that you complete it when you have completed a task (anything at all that sticks out). It can be difficult to think of something as an achievement so you can always rate yourself on effort for this (did it take a lot of effort for you to do, i.e. Extremely introvert person goes out to meet friends when they actually wanted to stay in / making a phone all you have been putting off / getting dressed for the day if you suffer from depression).

The main purpose of the log is to get you to focus on the little achievements you make day by day, that often get forgotten about when something not so great happens. The end game is to support you in framing your thoughts in a more positive manner, similar to the gratitude diary but a bit more structured.

Hello,

Can I join? I really need to improve my health and habits.
I've bought a notepad too so going to try and bullet plan too.

I'm a bit behind, so going to catch up slowly. Focusing initially on water.

I'm really not well this week so not doing well with water, sleep or activity but I have remembered my vitamins!

Mind if I jump back onto the bandwagon? I took a break from MN until the end of January as it was getting a bit silly how much I was just browsing Blush All I did was start browsing elsewhere but at least the other endeavours were a little more creative Wink

I am taking a multi-vit and a VitD tablet everyday, so this week I'm playing catch-up and 'revising' previous weeks that I've either lapsed in or just need to spend more time doing.

So this week I'm being stricter with going to bed and letting myself stay in bed until 7am instead of 6:30am. I could do with reminding myself to move more through the day I seem to have lost my fitbit which is probably a good thing and I also need to do the food journalling again as I haven't managed a solid week of it, the most I've done is 4 days Confused Has anybody else struggled with that? I just can't seem to keep track of everything I consume!

OddSocksHighHeels · 02/02/2016 17:02

Welcome back Rattie

Yeah I struggle sometimes so I try to log things I eat on MFP as I go through the day so that I can actually remember what I've had - brain like a sieve!

Hello everyone 😊 I'm having a good week so far - exercise, veggie vitamins, sleep. I even did one very significant thing for my mental health which was to find the numbers for stonemasons for my father's gravestone. It's been bugging me for months but I've also been putting it off. Making lots of lists and ticking things off and remembering how fortunate I am and to smile.

Thankyou thread friends.

Well done everyone doing positive things.

Sirona dd2 not too bad, thank you, so I took her to school today, I help on a Tues am so they could always get me to take her home but not necessary, luckily. Bad sleep was due mostly to her needing to poo (constipation issues) rather than cold.

We'll done, margaritas, that's a big difficult step.

I have improved my sleep by having a nap this afternoon, so I have clocked up nearly 8hrs. Just in small chunks - still better than too little. Taken vits and supplements, walked 12,000 steps which are logged for sport relief, plenty of water, healthy food (mostly), need to do gratitude diary, Headspace and yoga. Unlikely to manage all three before bed!

Report
Karcheer · 02/02/2016 20:24

I've drank a lot more than I usually do, no where near 1.5l but definitely more.
I changed the bed linen today and I drinking a sleep tea.

Quite important to remember the title of the thread I think.

52 small changes.

It doesn't matter how small they are, that's a whole year!

Which is, of course a fabulous idea.

But people will dip in and out, be inspired some weeks and other weeks day to day stuff will take over.

I like that this thread is here for us to be grounded when we want to think about this stuff.

It'll still be here in May, and September and December!

Yup, I did all the stupid stuff that I put off yesterday.

It was boring but needed doing, and now I'm chuffed it's done.

If it wasn't for this thread I might would have put it off till next week Smile

Didn't do the walking but was very chuffed to get prime parking space, and paid for it by phone for the first time.

It's lovely to see people coming and going! And thank you to our resident lifter-upper beyond for reminding us that doing better is doing well! Smile

Water is going much better, and have had nearly 8 hours sleep the past two nights. Made the 10,000 steps yesterday. Not so good at remembering supplements - I think I have to find a point in the routine that I do it every day.
