Blood in my poo

I have just googled and it looks serious, hoping someone can tell me it's not so serious I have to have tubes shoved down my throat or up my bum.

Background, apparently I have stress related ibs because I get constipated quite a lot and then have cramps and diarrhoea. The cramps are sp severe sometimes I can't move and the pain makes me vomit. The Dr won't even see me if I ever ring up about it and just prescribes movical and lactolose along with taking senna two and twice a day and suppositories.

Been constipated for a while but not where I'm not going at all. Have been having infrequent diarrhea and then normal bowl movements but not emptying. The Dr doesn't believe me that I'm not empty and says it's stress related. Until I can relax apparently this is how my stress will play out. (I'm not stressed)

I've just had another bout of diarrhea and there's bright red blood mixed in with poo and mucus. (way tmi sorry). Is this anything to be concerned about? Will the Dr want to see me now and will he examine me? I really don't want a rectal exam. Is this ok to wait until Monday or should I ring 111?

You could be bleeding inside your bowel. A lot of visible blood is not something you can wait to Monday for.

Go to A&E.

Do you really think it's that serious? The city I live in has had warnings in the news the last few days saying the hospitals are on black alert where they're so busy. I'm also on my second glass of wine so can't drive.

It could just be piles if you've been constipated.

Your symptoms sound serious given the quantity of blood. If you go to the toilet again you must collect a sample in a bowl. The quantity of blood is the most immediate serious issue. Only by taking a sample will a Dr be able to tell if you need to be hospitalised.

Significant blood loss is serious.

Is it a lot of blood?
Go to the out of hours doctors.

Have you lost any weight recently?

Bright red blood tends to indicate that the blood is from your rectum rather than further up in the bowel.
Are you sore? May be anal fissures or piles. You should get it checked out.

Do you feel unwell? Severe abdominal pain or feel faint? If not then I would suggest waiting until Monday for your GP.

Bright red blood isn't usually serous, I think it's worse if it's dark; dried blood as it indicates internal bleeding. If you've been constipated it could just be from straining too hard? Or it could be a small tear (called a fissure). I'd go to see your GP.

Thanks everyone. I rang 111 and they said they'll get me an out of hours appointment within 24hrs.

It wasn't loads of blood but it was mixed in. I have lost 6lbs this week but then I am doing myfitpal and more exercise then usual. I don't have severe pain it's more like a period pain. I do however get excruciating pain in my left abdomin when really constipated.

It's not piles unless they're inside of me and it's not bleeding around the outside. I have had a few sticky really dark poos at the start of the week and I also have pellets in the morning. My gp unfortunately doesn't take me serious as being constipated once I tell him I've been slightly.

Poor thing. Try to eat light, drink lots of water and not stress out - hard I know. Sounds like diverticulitis. Ouch.

Does diverticulitis run in the family as my grandma suffers with that.

It could well be a fissure which isn't serious, as you've had constipation it could be, try and see your GP to be sure

Could be ulcerative colitis. I had similar symptoms and was diagnosed over Christmas. Go to your GP, you need to set your mind at rest one way or the other.

I had this back in sept. Had been getting cramps and diarrhoea for a while then had very bloody poo. Went GP who sent off bloods and stool sample and checked for piles. No piles. No chrones but did find b12 deficiency. Got told it was ibs.
Am now having b12 injections and doc said to try follow FODMAP diet.
A few diet exclusions and nothing seemed the cause of diarrhoea. Was on toilet 5-7 times a day.
Dx with anxiety and put on pills. Now Im on toilet 2 X a day. So anxiety is a cause of my ibs.

I thought bright red fresh blood was ok, it was probably a haemorrhoid or something, it was brown (old) blood that was the worrying one as it indicated a bleed higher up the digestive tract.

You really need to change your GP, OP. One that won't see you, tells you you're stressed when you're not and prescribes stuff over the phone really ought to be bloody struck off!

Is it fresh red blood? If so it's likely to be either piles or a fissure. Darker black blood indicates it's from further up in the bowel. In any case it needs to be investigated, please see your GP as soon as possible. Hope you feel better soon.

Just noticed you also mentioned mucus as well. That can be a symptom of IDB (Crohns or Ulcerative Colitis) & really needs to be looked into. I also agree with the previous poster who said you need to change your GP- bowel issues can be serious ( I have Crohns & it took 20 years to get a full diagnosis as I was fobbed off with an IBS diagnosis after inconclusive tests). Your GP should be be helping you not ignoring you.

Ds has UC. Take a poo sample to the docs, it needs to be at least half full of poo because they test for all sorts.

The mucous mixed with blood sounds familiar. So does the feeling of not emptying.

Your gp is being crap. Give a sample and insist it goes to the lab. Try to get bloods taken too, they should look for inflammatory markers.

You might need an endoscopy and colonoscopy for a proper diagnosis. Poo tests can come back normal.

Don't worry too much. It is literally a pain in the arse but not the end of the world. My brother had diverticulitis, an operation sorted it. My son is living a normal life with UC, his meds are working.

I agree with others, you need checked out if only to confirm what the issue is, if that mapeans a camera up your bum then so be it, it's a small price to pay to ensure its nothing serious.

Unless you have changed your diet quite drastically 6lbs can be a big weight loss in a single week. If I went to my doc with weight loss like that plus blood I would be booked a scan without question. He would also do a thorough examination like a finger test at the time to see if he could feel anything or see anything like a fissure or piles.
