Week 3 of 52 small changes - getting more active

Once again this is open to everybody even if you're joining late!

This week is about getting routine activity in each day. My favourite example from it being: don't use hired help where possible - build a shed yourself (I won't be doing any shed-building personally but feel free Grin)

Ways to do it:

  1. walk whenever you can - get off a stop or two earlier on the commute, taking a dog for a walk if you have one, walk to run errands instead of driving, park the car further away from the entrance of shops (so stay away from P&C spaces Grin) and take a short walk before breakfast/after dinner/whenever suits you.

  2. on your lunch break at work - take a walk or use the time to do some errands. If you work at a desk then get up and stretch hourly.

  3. while watching TV - fold the laundry, do some floor exercises, tidy the room up

  4. take the stairs rather than a lift/escalator where possible

  5. twice a week find a way to do a fun activity - ice skating, dancing, going for a walk on a beach, whatever you enjoy!

  6. do things manually eg turn the TV on/off without the remote

Melvali I do walk everywhere. The dcs school and back is just under 5,000 steps, the other day I had a meeting at school so did 3 trips there and back: hence so many steps. We have lots of stairs in our house too, so I tend to be going up and down a lot too. I will walk into town for the dentist this morning so will tot up 2 school runs and walk into town.

Well done you. I just had a miscarriage last week at 12 weeks and feeling wiped out but looking forward to joining you on the challenges Smile

Oh Melvali so sorry to hear of your loss Flowers

8hours sleep last night but due to trying to fit in my water intake as I left it late, was up twice going to the toilet Hmm Didn't do my exercises last night and judging by the thick ice that doesn't look like it's clearing off, I don't think I'll get out for my run today or walk with the youngest.

Flowers Melvali be kind to yourself. I had a miscarriage between dd1 and dd2, so my greatest sympathies.

Sirona ice not actually too much here, so have walked quite a lot. 12,000 steps and still another school run toy do. Have managed and yoga camp too. On the negative I have done f all stuff round the house this week. I have loads to carch up with!

Sorry to hear that melvali, take care of yourself.
Not great on activity or water today as I took a load of kids to the theatre. Been catching up on water this evening but feel groggy. Slept really well last night though.
I wonder what the next challenge will be??

I'm managing a litre of water a day, sleeping well as usual but not great at the activity.
It's so bloody cold!

Oh well, small improvement is better than none.

Well done everyone else, stick with it.

Well done on the steps quirkychick, the ice didn't shift here all day so we only managed a short walk to the shops pushing the buggy with me slipping and sliding.

To be very cold again tonight, will probably be pretty much the same ice-wise tomorrow.

Did a short burst of glute exercises tonight in front of the tv. Better than nothing eh?

lots of gentle exercise and fresh air today. Went down to the ice rink at Brighton - couldn't skate myself (DD did for the first time, she was awesome!) but lots of walking.

Well done, fuzzpig. I think even a short walk to the shops counts as being active, Sirona. That's all I was managing over Christmas after chest infection. Will probably not walk far tomorrow, dd2 has music and that's really it. Have walked nearly 20,000 steps today Shock. So won't do nearly as much tomorrow... might need to notch up some cleaning activity, though.

DS is joining in with the new sleep regime by waking an hour earlier than he's supposed to (sigh). I've trying to move a bit more than usual but I'm coming down with a cold and I just want to comfort eat - so lot great for MFP either. I did use the stairs rather than the escalator the other day though. In also decluttering - might say a fond farewell to the video collection!

Oh, velocity I am using mfp too. I have only just worked out how to add water since they updated the app Blush. Tbf I have been logging it on my Fitbit app.

Sleep not so great last night as we were back late from the panto and dp and I stayed up chatting. Not so great as dd2 woke at 6am. Still I have clocked up 6 hrs, which is much better than the other week. I am trying to aim for 7hrs average and eventually for 8hrs. Definitely, a long term goal Smile.

My FitBit tells me that on 5 of the last 6 days I beat my target of 60 active minutes. I know the FB's interpretation of 'active' is quite a low level. All I do is walk, and jog on the spot in front of the TV (but I'm losing weight as a result!). And 'more' is better, no matter how low a base you start from!

Water intake is increasing since I got a water bottle for work.

It's been a stressful week and as a result, I didn't get enough sleep. Hopefully next week will be better.

Thanks OddSocks. Looking forward to next week's challenge.

I've had a terrible internet connection and haven't been able to update much but I'm still doing pretty well with it! I'll add tomorrow's challenge later on today once I've read it all!

Posted and lost it all. Grrrr.

IWasHere I thought any moving around was good. I think it is sitting still for hours that is very bad for you. Well done for the weight loss.

I stood on the Omron scale this morning and while I haven't lost any weight I have lost visceral fat 6% to 5% and inches round the middle. Lots of walking, yoga, being busy and trying to eat healthily are all helping.

Sleep is slowly getting there, the average last week was 6 1/2hrs sleep and this week is 6 hrs 50mins. I am aiming for 7hrs average next week.

Have managed some housework and a short walk but feel like hibernating! Must be the cold weather. Hopefully we'll have a bit of snow to play in tomorrow, that always gets me moving!

Keep it up folks! I've had a more active day today. Done loads of housework and several loads of washing so up and down 2 flights of stairs many times. Not brilliant but better Hmm
