He said it aches a little this morning but not to worry about a doc's appt.
I just asked him if it still hurts and he said it does.
It looks a little bit swollen too.

I've got an appt tomorrow for him now but thought I'd ask you all if your Ds's have had anything like this.

I think you have to take him to the docotr or a and e ring nhs direct but it sounds like something which needs treatment but I've forgotten the name of

could be balanitis, my ds has had this a few times. its an infection that requires antibiotics. should be fine till tomorow, make sure he def goes to the docs though

mummydoc · 04/12/2006 16:42

sounds like ballanitis - this is an infection under the foreskin sometimes due to a build up of sebrum " cheesy stuff" and can be compounded by the foreskin being too tight, but can happen in boys/men with normal foreskins . It usually needs some antibiotics - an appt with your doc tomorrow should be fine, calpol tonight and try to take a urine sample with you tomorrow as occasionally this is due to a urinary tract infection.

LadyTophamHatt · 04/12/2006 16:43

I wondered if its something to do with his foreskin? He's 7.5yrs and he's recently discovered that it goes back now.....

Could that be linked to it??

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 04/12/2006 16:43

that's the one I was struggling to remember

7swansaswimmingup · 04/12/2006 16:50

my sons foreskin doesnt go back and he has a pinhole opening which caused his balanitis, hes on the list to have a circumsicion

LadyTophamHatt · 04/12/2006 16:54

&7p, DS1 always seemed quite tight and also theres alot of it, it looks really long from the end of his willy, whereas Ds2+3's both stop at the end of the willy IYSWIM.

I was shocked when he told me it went back because I really thought it wouldn't and that he's have to be circumsized[sp?]

OP posts:
7swansaswimmingup · 04/12/2006 17:02

yea it does look long! my sons looks sort of pointy like theres too much skin, whereas compared to his toddler brother whos looks quite normal and rounded

LadyTophamHatt · 04/12/2006 17:03

thats what ds1s is like....pointy.

OP posts:
7swansaswimmingup · 04/12/2006 17:21

is it the first infection hes had? my ds apparently should have been circumscised years ago, hes now 12. hes now got another thing wrong that begins with "p", cant remember without googling it! when he has a wee, he gets a ballooning at the side of willy where the wee wont come out. then wooosh, wee overload and the balloon goes.

it had been like that for ages till ds told me to have a look when he had a wee 6months ago and i thought oh dear thats not right. he said he thought it was normal

LadyTophamHatt · 04/12/2006 17:22

yes, this is the 1st time its' ever done this but you've described exactly what his willy does when he wees too.

Hmmmm maybe he will need to be "done" then.

OP posts:
7swansaswimmingup · 04/12/2006 17:24

what he gets the balloon bit aswell?praps ask for a referral to hospital . really my ds has just got in before puberty hits big time, got apt for january then hoping the op wont too long after

LadyTophamHatt · 04/12/2006 17:29

yes, it ballons when he wees but he's never had any probelms with it until this.

OP posts:
LadyTophamHatt · 04/12/2006 17:30

I know, without a shadow of a doubt, he will absolutley crap himslef about going into hospital to have anything done.

OP posts:
7swansaswimmingup · 04/12/2006 17:31

phimosis, just looked it up. hope doctors goes ok, let us know, id be interested as ive not met anyone else with a ds with the condition

7swansaswimmingup · 04/12/2006 17:35

xpost, yea course he'll be nervous and it wont be very pleasant. they might leave his as its his first infection and his foreskin is going back now. im dreading ds having his done and that first wee! im hoping a playstation game will make him braver

7swansaswimmingup · 05/12/2006 17:56

how did the apt go?

LadyTophamHatt · 05/12/2006 18:06

Just back actually 7up.

Well, the redness and swelling has gone done today so the Doc didn't have much to look at.
I really thoght she'd mention circumsision[sp??] but she didn't. I do think that in the long run he will have to get it done though. Our old GP mentioned it when DS was tiny once so we'll see how things go in the next few months now that his foreskin goes back.
I stupidly forgot to mention about the wee thing but DH said earlier that his willy used to do that when he was little so maybe it's a father/son thing in our case.
IMO it shouldn't be happening though....it does look odd and there is alot of extra skin at the end.
I think DH was almost equally as horrifeid at the thought of DS being circumsized as DS will be himself.

I could kick myslef for forgetting to mention the wee thing

OP posts:
popsycal · 05/12/2006 18:09

ballinitis?

7swansaswimmingup · 05/12/2006 18:11

you could always ring up and ask to speak to the doc tomorow and explain that you were flustered and forgot. ive done that quite a few times before

next time it gets sore, make sure they dont leave him because my sons should have been sorted out years ago and now hes older its even worse in a way because hes more knowing

7swansaswimmingup · 05/12/2006 18:12

on the plus side, at least no antibiotics to try and get down him

LadyTophamHatt · 05/12/2006 18:13

She's given him cream to put on it, which I was quite surprised about.
I thought he'd had anti-b's.

I think I will call them back tomorrow.

OP posts:
iota · 05/12/2006 18:14

isn't the cream anti-biotic?

LadyTophamHatt · 05/12/2006 18:16

I don't know ...I haven't looked at the packet yet.
