probably gallbladder related but have had enough

I was told I had gallstones early last year after suffering bouts of nausea vomiting and horrible upper abdomen discomfort. Iiver function was also off the scale that I was called into see my gp urgently. I eventually saw a consultant I opted to lose weight and try and control with diet rather than a operation. Now again I am having problems I was up all night with the most horrible abdominal discomfort as well as vomiting and it won't go away and I feel really nauseated. My doctor said it could be the gallstones but is treating me with acid tablets to rule that out but they have done nothing and I can't bear feeling so I'll for another night and day. Should I go to the hospital and hope they do something I can't stand It and I can't even eat.

Go and get seen, I am surprised you were recommended to try and lose weight rather than go on a waiting list for gallbladder removal.

You should definitely do something if you feel that bad. Can you get an emergency appointment with your Doctor in the morning?

Sorry but loosing weight will not help with gall stones! Although sticking with an extreme low fat diet may help with some of the attacks.

I was slim and had terrible gall stones, I couldn't wait to have the surgery

Go back to your dr and ask to be re referred for surgery would be my advice.

Is there any possibility that they will operate I really don't want to be sent home feeling like this

If you go to a&e they will give you something for the pain. If your lfts are still deranged then they might keep you in for more tests- an ultrasound maybe?

You really don't want to have an emergency procedure, but I understand your desperation. Gallstones are really horribly painful.

You could go to a&e but I seriously doubt they will do anything tonight, ring 111 and ask to speak to a Dr, say you can't cope with the pain.

I was on codydramol, buscopan and pethidine when the attacks were really bad!!

Tramadol
And
Oramorph.
Didn't stop the pain :(

I know there is no guarantee that going to hospital will mean the op will get treatment sooner, but it is important she goes so that pancreatitis can be ruled out.

I am surprised with your liver issues they were happy with none surgically option.

You do need to get checked out to rule out other issues including infected gall bladder and to moniter liver if this is an issue. If you can't cope with the pain it is an emergency. The operation and recovery is no where near as bad as the attacks.

Ring 111 and ask for advice.

You need an operation to remove your gall bladder. You will not control it any other way. Why oh why oh why to doctors always suggest 'alternatives'?

There are none in this case. Just go and get the operation. You ar ebeing fobbed off.

Your pain is acute biliary colic. You will end up in A&E if you don't get it sorted just like my mother who avoided an operation for 3 years. The consultant who finally saw here almost reported her case it was so badly managed. The gall stones had worn her gall bladder wall away to a tissue thin layer to a point it was about to rupture and she would have had peretonitis.

I had gall stones and had a biliary colic attack. Dr suggested indigestion or a 'tummy bug'. Do NOT be fobbed off with alternatives anymore. Demand an operation.

Of course the op may have wanted to avoid surgery, which is understandable.

Dr. Gave me some musel relaxing tablets which helped... its very common in women. Feel miles better since the op.

Actually if you go to A&E with an acute infection of the gallbladder then more often nowadays you would be offered surgery during that admission. It depends on the hospital, but immediate surgery is what is recommended now, whereas it wasnt in the past.

With regards to weight, a low fat diet will help your symptoms, but weight loss itself actually causes gallstones, it wont get rid of them.

Hi thanks for your messages. I did go to the hospital and they confirmed from my symptoms that it was my gallbladder however I wasn't showing signs of infection or fever etc so they explained that it wasn't a emergency and gave me strong painkillers and asked me to go to my doctor and get a referral for the surgery.luckily when I got back late last night it was easing and I managed to sleep and woke up this morning and it had gone.

Gallstones where confirmed by ultrasound last year. I need the surgery as I don't want this again it's awful.

I had mine out in April and although not a fun experience it is so good not to have the fear of the pain returning hanging over me.

There is no way to control symptomatic gallstones except surgery as unfortunately you've found out - doing it with diet is a myth.

Get your GP to refer you back to the surgeon and get the fuckers out - my life is a million times better without mine.

I waited two years for my op and stayed attack free as long as I stuck to fat free.
I had two attacks, one from a cappuccino and the other from a Jaffa cake

Well I avoided attacks by being fat free while I was waiting - but being totally fat free for the rest of your life isn't realistic, as you proved with your capuccino and Jaffa cake.
