Hello all,

The old thread has nearly run out so I hope no one minds me making a new one. And am I allowed to mention the Big C... Christmas?! Grin our last thread was started in July so I reckon this one might take us into December.

In honour of that, I will lay out some mulled wine, mince pies and I have wrapped myself in tinsel.

A warm welcome to jomidmum, but sorry you've had to join us. No one wants to be in this club, but this thread is a rather nice place to be. Wishing you a speedy recovery from your op, and hoping the pain eases soon.

Massive hugs to beccajoh Flowers

A big yippee for Marshy, what utterly fantastic news.

Sitting on the paranoia box for ConsiderablyBiggerBuns, I hope your MRI results are good - when will you hear?

Waving and sending love to everyone else.

I wonder if seeing as we are on a new thread, it might be worth just giving a bit of history for new posters? I will put mine anyway, and then others can if they want to. I am coming up to two years since my bowel cancer diagnosis (grade 2, stage 3c, T2N2M0R0). I had major bowel surgery and six months of chemo.

Welcome Zedpo, what a time you have been through up till now. Once you get your results back then hopefully you'll have a decent plan in place which will give you something to work through. The ladies here are brilliant and provide wonderful support at times when you need it most and hearty congratulations when you have positive news to celebrate.

Speedy, I'm like you, never one to bother much with my hair but I think I probably will now. I haven't got a dry scalp fortunately but I remember all too well the horrible feeling when my hair was falling out so I sympathise. It does seem to be coming back darker than before and with more grey but I can't quite work out whether it will be straight or wavy. It just feels....different.

Lily, good luck on Saturday. Hopefully you get a decent appointment when you can have the chance to talk through everything in detail. There's nothing worse than worrying over something and not being able to get an experts opinion.

I saw the surgeon this morning. She was very sorry to have to see me again and said that she'd never been in this position before where a marker had got left behind. Apparently she queried the radiologist a few times during surgery as to whether the marker was in the tissue she'd removed and was told it had been. I saw the mammos and X-rays and can see how the mistake could have been made.

Anyway, I'm booked in next Thursday (5th) to have the marker removed and should hopefully be in and out in a few hours. As the surgeon said there will probably be 'about 10 pairs of eyes checking this time' that all is as it should be!

Speedypenguin · 23/02/2015 18:26

Hope it goes well on Sat Lily and you can be reassured and get answers to those thoughts going round. I know what you mean about reassuring yourself about one thing and then another worry pops along. Am sure it will be just about your dosage as surely they might have mentioned about surgery in your last appointment

Minty- am glad you have a date sorted. Hopefully it will be done and dusted and you can get on with rads.

malteserzz · 23/02/2015 19:53

Minty glad you've got a date, mistakes do happen I suppose and like you say they'll be really careful this time

Lily hope you get a good way forward on Saturday

Good news from me today, had the letter about my first mammogram post treatment and all is well :) Such a relief

mintyneb · 23/02/2015 20:02

malt woo hoo that's fantastic news, you must be so pleased :). hopefully you can relax again now for a while.

wineoclockthanks · 23/02/2015 21:32

Great news malt, such a relief.

Good news you have a date minty, they'll be super efficient this time!

Welcome to everyone new (although sorry you have to be here), I'm sure someone here will be able to answer any questions you may have.

Sorry I haven't been here for a while, work has been exhausting and half term was a bit chaotic.

Speedypenguin · 23/02/2015 21:37

Fab news Malt. Really pleased that all ok.

JollyFrog · 23/02/2015 21:51

malt that's great news! I'm really pleased for you. You won't remember me but I joined this thread last year when my father had cancer and you were very understanding (I've had a few name changes since!) Iirc we were in Lanzarote at the same time!
My father is doing well, has 3 monthly check ups which so far have all been clear. I do lurk to see how everyone is doing.
Thanks

Lilymaid · 23/02/2015 21:57

Excellent news Malt and let's hope you will be forever free of the big C (forever young may be a step too far ...)

Salhal · 23/02/2015 22:21

Great to see some good news on here Malt Grin

malteserzz · 23/02/2015 22:36

Thanks all and of course I remember you jolly though not the name ! Glad to hear your DF is doing well Smile still have nightmares about that camel ride in lanzarote !

JollyFrog · 23/02/2015 22:42

malts Grin at least you were brave enough to get on the bloomin camel! I sat and watched DH & DS ride off over the hill. Tried to smooth one and it spat at me!

savemefromrickets · 24/02/2015 00:07

Congrats Malt, great news.

mrsrhodgilbert · 24/02/2015 08:38

Malt, what fantastic news, couldn't be more delighted.

Marshy · 24/02/2015 19:12

Fab news malt Smile

elportodelgato · 24/02/2015 20:47

Hey hey Malt! Fabulous news, very happy for you.

Minty, let's hope they manage to get the marker this time and you have a nice quick recovery.

I have now had 7 out of 15 rads, all going fine though I'm more tired than I thought, possibly due to rads though quite possibly due to tamoxifen tbh. Am trying to work through it with some limited success! Wish I could have a lovely week or 2 off from all duties at work and at home, the combination of rads, the office and half term nearly did me in!

Now I am approaching the end of treatment and thinking about the year ahead, I wondered if anyone is up for resurrecting a vague plan we had on the last thread to try and get together in person aro und late spring or early summer? Would anyone be up for that?

Love to all, and welcome to those new people who've sadly had to join us, take as much sustenance as you can from this amazing community of awesome women x

savemefromrickets · 24/02/2015 21:00

A meetup sounds great, elporto. Sorry you are feeling tired. I'll soon find out if it's the tamoxifen, but hopefully I'll seamlessly segue from post-op tiredness to tamoxifen tiredness without a glitch. What I dread is getting energy back for a few weeks and then it disappearing again!

mintyneb · 24/02/2015 22:44

I'd be up for a meet up although I'm not the best organiser in the world so might have to follow rather than lead the plans. I'm happy to travel to wherever is best for everyone though.

Lilymaid · 25/02/2015 10:24

I'd be interested in a meet up . It would have to be weekends (unless in August). I'm twixt the South East and the Midlands (and work in London).

wineoclockthanks · 25/02/2015 13:57

Meet up sounds great - I'm happy to coordinate.

Perhaps anyone who is interested could post (Or PM me if you'd prefer) where they can get to (South East, Midlands, London etc) and when is best (weekends, school hols), and hopefully we can find somewhere to suit us all Smile

Marshy · 25/02/2015 16:42

Hi all, would love a meet up. I'm Midlands (Worcestershire) but willing to travel. Weekends best, assuming ill be back at work sometime soon.

Was due back on phased return next Monday but have been laid low over the weekend with sciatica Sad Am in agony unless horizontal and on shedloads of painkillers. A bit fed up really....

Speedypenguin · 25/02/2015 17:55

Poor you Marshy. Hope it eases soon.

Would be up for a meet up to. Weekends best as have every other free from children. In southwest but can travel.

malteserzz · 25/02/2015 18:13

Oh yes a meet would be great, I'm midlands. Am on FB too if anyone else wants to be friends

malteserzz · 25/02/2015 18:14

Marshy sorry to hear you're in pain, hope it eases soon x

elportodelgato · 25/02/2015 19:28

Marshy, not surprised you're fed up, hope it eases up soon.

Glad so many of us are up for a get together! I am in London, Saturdays are best for me and I can travel

savemefromrickets · 25/02/2015 20:04

Midlands is good for me too, but I can travel. Weekends are fine.

Can we meet under a clock somewhere holding a BC related object to aid identification?
