has anyone here become (or know anyone that's become ) pregnant even after taking it????

I don't think I need to explain why (do I )!!!

Earlier the better and I do know people that say they still got pg - but I don't know them well enough to know if they were using a little creative license.

humpydumpy · 12/09/2006 03:49

My best friend got pregnant after taking the morning after pill, but I don't know how soon after the event she took it.

Sandcastles · 12/09/2006 08:13

My friend became pg after taking it too.

Sandcastles · 12/09/2006 08:16

mine took it next day

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2006 08:46

oh sh*t. As much as I'd love a no.3 at some point in the future (whereas DH definitely doesn't). Now is NOT the time to be getting pg.....I've got an emergency appointment at the Dr.s later (11.20) to get it..........as much as I don't want to get pg I'm not paying £20+ to get it over the counter.

Can't believe we were so silly tbh...but I guess that's what a few glasses of wine can do

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 12/09/2006 08:52

ERrr, I dont think I need mention that if DH definitely doesnt want another.....etc etc

MrsBadger · 12/09/2006 08:54

if you're seeing a gp rather than a pharmacist you can ask for the anti-vom pill too, as if you're sick within 3hrs of taking it (and it can make you feel v pukey) you have to go back and get another one and start again.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2006 08:54

what? - that he should have ensure he was wearing a condom.........well he had a combination of wine and whisky

OP posts:
HRHQueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2006 08:56

very pukey? Oh no - how long for??? I'm seeing my NVQ assessor this afternoon - and working tonight .

qoq slaps herself very hard on the wrists for being so careless

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 12/09/2006 09:02

No, rather Im suggesting that if you did get pg, then that would be half his "fault", and he couldnt make much of a fuss about it, and perhaps he should get the snip

VeniVidiVickiQV · 12/09/2006 09:03

QOQ - you get 72 hours to take it i believe - so you could do your assessment and then take it.

Doesnt mean you will necessarily be ill - if you have been on the pill before and suffered side effects, you are likely to suffer them on this too though.

humpydumpy · 12/09/2006 09:11

Should add that even though I know of one person who did get pregnant, I know of loads more who didn't.

Sounds like you had a good night

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2006 09:11

I tell you what - whether or not taking the pill works - I think I'm going to let him get the snip. Yes I'd love another child, but my mum always wanted 3 and learned to live with the fact that she only got the two of us (and they only planned 1 - I was a happy accident!). We're only just getting back on our feet after last year and really can't afford a baby now, and our long term goals for the future would all be thrown into oblivion if no.3 were to come along at any time in the future.

Please keep your fingers crossed that it does the job........I feel so bl**dy stupid - this is almost exactly the same as how DS2 came to be......except DH wasn't so adimently against a no.2 and finances were much better.

I didn't suffer any side effects on the pill..........apart from getting pg after I'd missed 2 or 3!!!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2006 09:12

HD - yes it was a very good night and I suppose one part of me is just relieve that my vaginismus seems to have gone!! The rest of me is practically cr*pping myself though incase I get pg.........

OP posts:
humpydumpy · 12/09/2006 09:20

There's nothing like a pregnancy scare to ruin the moment

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2006 09:27

lol you're telling me

I've just been looking on the Family Planning Association website and it reckons that the pill is 95% effective if taken within 24hrs - so fingers crossed........

serenity · 12/09/2006 10:01

I know loads of people who have taken it successfully, and only one for whom it didn't work (she mc'd a few months later though which was very sad as she'd actually got her head around the pg, it was never clear if it was just 'one of those things' or connected with the MAP)

By all accounts it does make you very pukey, so definitely get some antinausea tablets too if you can.

Hope it works out (glad you had a good night )

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 12/09/2006 10:09

I know a couple of people whom it didnt work for

am glad you vagiothingy has gone though

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2006 10:14

Thanks serenity - feeling rather 'odd' about it now. A large part of me knows that getting pg now isn't really an option, and certainly not an option that would 'boost' our relationship/family life in anyway at all. Infact if I'm honest about it a no.3 is probably never going to be on the agenda.....if this actually happens - having a 3rd child to stay behind with to finish school would be a complete nightmare. And as things are at the moment we could be pretty much out of debt (apart from the mortgage and one loan) within 5yrs (considering our totaly debts this time last year were nearly 30k that's a really nice feeling). In essence while my heart would love another baby, my head really doesn't!

On the other hand (as you may well know from previous threads) I have pretty strong views about abortions and the morning after pill. I could never go through with an abortion (and if push came to shove I don't think DH could either). But the MAP is a totally different issue. I'm one of those that believe pregnancy starts when the egg is fertilised - now obviously the MAP could simply stop me ovulating or delay it - which I do't have a problem with - what I do have the problem with is the fact that it could also stop implantation.....

I suppose it's no different to what the contraceptive injection (which I now intend to get....) works inthat it can thin the lining of the womb to stop implanting. But, well not sure how to explain it really, I just feel a little wierd about the whole thing.........guess I never thought we'd find ourselves in this position again (DS2 arrived after an unexpected moment of passion that was unprotected........)

katyjo · 12/09/2006 11:22

hi its about 90% effective if taken in first 24 hours, about 75% if taken within 48 hours but only about 55% if taken within 72 hours. So the sooner you get it the better.hope everything works out. X

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2006 12:12

Just been and got it..........have forwarned DH that it can cause PMT symptoms (I'm a complete cow when AF is around). Going to have some lunch just now and take it - fingers crossed a) I don't throw up and b) it works (apparently about 95% sucess if taken within 24hrs).

I've just possibly the nicest nurse practioner in the country - SOOOOOOOO lovely.

OP posts:
ratclare · 12/09/2006 13:06

my 4 yr old is living proof that it sometimes doesnt ! however it usually works if you take it within 24hrs ,the later you leave it the less effective ,i pushed the 72hr deadline

serenity · 14/09/2006 16:43

Hope you felt OK QoQ.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 14/09/2006 16:46

yes - I was ok thankfully - no sickness - quite ratty on Tuesday night (but I don't know how much of that was down to 'possible PMT symptoms' with it - and how much it was just me being tired and stressed..........now I've got to wait to see if it worked. I keep scaring myself that it's not worked as I didn't really feel any different (and DH says that if I was PMT'ish he didn't notice!) after taking it.....only time will tell!

OP posts:
serenity · 14/09/2006 16:50

The odds are on your side at least, I glad it didn't make you feel too crappy though (Dhs job to deal with ratty PMTness surely?! ) Sounds like you need good dose of chocolate.
