Sorry if graphic
Been ill for months but not panicked until today.
Back and forth to doctors since march-with weight loss, stomach pains, feeling faint/dizzy various tests and now waiting for a stomach scan( finally).
Today I've been bleeding passing stools and not stopped. Lots of blood from bum it's not a cut from passing stool it's like a period from wrong place- back to dr again they basically are going to do another fuckibg blood test and told me to wait for scan from hosp which could be weeks- I'm worried even if they're not this isn't right is it :(

I'm 31 btw

As someone from a family of crohns sufferers I would actually go to a and E now if you are losing a lot of blood. They will treat it as an emergency and do some tests there and then to find out what is going on. Hope you feel better soon x

woolypigs · 30/06/2014 18:47

I agree with Fairylea, get yourself to A&E.

nappyrat · 30/06/2014 18:48

I would be pushing for more than that if it was me...you know yourself better than any doctor. If your feeling is that something is wrong, be assertive and don't give up. Good luck, hope you get an answer soon. And try not too stress too much in between being assertive(!), it will not help.

Obstacles · 30/06/2014 18:49

Call 111 and ask their advice. try to lie down with your feet in the air to minimise bloodlloss while you are waiting. If you get lots of blood you will need to call 999.

PetiteRaleuse · 30/06/2014 18:50

Have you had a gastroscopy or coloniscopy?

hellymelly · 30/06/2014 18:50

I agree with above posters, go to A+E. You can't wait weeks to be seen if you have blood pouring out of you.

LovelyMarchHare · 30/06/2014 18:51

What colour is the blood?

I agree with A&E.

chocisonabikinidiet · 30/06/2014 18:54

Agree with A&E

GetYourFingersOutOfThere · 30/06/2014 18:56

I also agree with A&E best not wait around with this sort of thing.

Wishfulmakeupping · 30/06/2014 19:07

Sorry I worded that in a crap way- the blood didn't stop while I was going toilet it's not pouring now once I'd cleaned up. It's bleeding if I clean the area only now so the period like blood was 5-10 mins where it didn't stop.
The doctor seemed really not worried.
Petite think they are the tests I'm waiting for one is like an ultrasound and the other is a vaginal scan are those the same?
Thanks all

This is exactly what happened to my 2 years ago. I went to A and E in the end when it all got too much and was diagnosed with Crohn's disease.

Heartsandspades · 30/06/2014 19:08

*me

Wishfulmakeupping · 30/06/2014 19:08

Blood was bright red which I think was why the dr not worried as well but I'm sure it wasn't a cut there was loads of it blood all over the toilet that's too much to be a fissure or something right ?

OP posts:
FreakinScaryCaaw · 30/06/2014 19:09

Sounds worrying. Go to A&E.

BsshBosh · 30/06/2014 19:58

A&E!

PetiteRaleuse · 30/06/2014 20:03

Bright red suggests piles or fissures. Both of which can create heaps of blood but not considered life threatening usually. It's when the blood is darker that they worry. However, you need to have your mind put at rest. Assuming the blood tests they do are ok - they'll be checking your haemoglobin (sp?) (possibly not that test) to check you are not losing too much blood.

Disclaimer: not a doctor.

PetiteRaleuse · 30/06/2014 20:08

Gastroscopy is when they send a camera via your mouth to the stomach. Colonoscopy is when the camera goes up the bum. Bright red blood wouldn't demand those tests except in a real emergency. Darker blood would worry them.

However, the weight loss and dizzy spells should be a flag for them while pregnant. If you're worried go to a&e.

Wishfulmakeupping · 01/07/2014 08:47

Thanks all petite the tests I'm having done are different entirely then the doctor I saw last time seems concerned about my overies so I'm wondering if this new symptoms would put the focus back on some GI related?
I didn't bleed again last night but had cramping pains all night even after tablets. I didn't go a and e as my dd was up and down feeding all night she has been for last week so knew I wouldn't be able to leave her to go.
In two minds whether to ask for another app with a diff dr but not sure that would help as the one I saw last night was a partner so don't think another dr with contradict that really?

OP posts:
cathyandclaire · 01/07/2014 08:58

Bright red bleeding splashing into the loo does fit with piles but with the diarrhoea and weight loss I'd be requesting a hospital consultant referral asap. The scan is good as well to check your ovaries but I agree a sigmoidoscopy/colonoscopy should be done (DH has Crohns, so I'm cautious like Dairylea).
I would go and see another GP and ask for referral, or go to A and E now if you are still bleeding and unwell.

kronenborg · 01/07/2014 09:37

you need an urgent consultation in hospital.

significant bright red blood, not apparently coming from a fissure/piles, needs urgent investigation. the fact that it is bright red (rather than dark or black) suggests its coming from your large intestine (colon or rectum) - and possible a sign of inflammatory bowel disease (crohns or ulcerative colitis).

the concern is that an initial bleed can herald subsequent further, and heavier bleeds, and as such, you need urgent investigation, most probably in the form of a colonoscopy.

you have a source of bleeding. you are still having symptoms. you only have a finite amount of blood.

get seen, pronto.

Wishfulmakeupping · 01/07/2014 09:50

The bleeding stopped altogether after 10 mins then it was only if I touched the area and none at all since 8pm last night. I just feel like shit but not unwell enough that I would go to a and e. Sorry I hate these threads where OP is ignoring all the advice given it's just that I would have to be back to put dd to bed by 7pm and don't want to risk being stuck down there for hours for nothing if I would still have wait for the scan referral anyway.

OP posts:
allisgood1 · 01/07/2014 09:53

Have you at least called the dr?

Wishfulmakeupping · 01/07/2014 09:57

Yes just rang no morn app left will get an a pm one after 2pm.

OP posts:
kronenborg · 01/07/2014 10:00

i'm not necessarily suggesting you go and wait about in A&E for hours (although this is certainly an option). you say you have been going back and forwards to the doctor - you should speak with your doctor (presumably a GP) and maybe he can arrange for you to be seen urgent in a GI consultant's outpatient clinic.

it's very difficult to know the seriousness of your condition - i would be worried that your symptom of general malaise could be a direct result of blood loss.

we don't also have a good idea about how much blood you have seen - would you estimate just a few drops (as if from a small cut/scratch), a teaspoon full, and eggcup full, a mug full? it sounded rather like you were describing at least an eggcup full ("like a period"), perhaps more, and as such you really need to prioritize your health, however inconvenient that may be, and get yourself seen by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

better to do so at least partially electively, than have an ambulance called if you end up in really dire straights.
