Me and dp had sex on tuesday night and we were both a bit drunk and didn't use anything.

I wasn't bothered at the time as have always wanted a 3rd child. Now i thuoght about it though I have decided it's really a bad idea for many reasons, and i'm not as sturck on the idea as I was.

I can't get a doctors appointment until tommorow, will it be too late for the MAP then ??

afaik it works up to 72 hours after the deed.... don't quote me on that though!

footprint · 17/08/2006 17:43

72 hours is the limit, so tomorrow prob too late. I think you can get it over the counter now though?????

TooLate · 17/08/2006 17:44

Up to 72 hours - so 3 full days - so you would be ok but the sooner the better (you could go to the chemist instead). Alternatively you could be fitted with a coil and think that may have a bit longer .

There is no way I can go out tonight, dp isn't here and I have no one to have kids.

Shit and crap.

G.p has already switched to answering machine message as it shuts at 5 on a thursday. I know i should have done something sooner but I though i'd be ok as am not in middle of cycle or anything but have checked again and am a bit too close for comfort.

Count the hourss. If it's borderline, borrow the money, empty dp's pockets, or do whatever it takes, if you don't want to be pg.
It's a big thing for the sake of £11 (?)
There may be a 24 hour emergency family planning clinic near you...have a look n your phone book, in the info section. Or phone NHS Direct and see if there is an emergency clinic near you.

TooLate · 17/08/2006 17:48

Yep will have to be. Fingers crossed.

It's £24 and i have no one to borrow the money off.

I'll have to wait until morning and hope.

sorry, x-posted. Sometimes the after hours Dr will fax a prescription to the nearest late-night pharmacy to you. Not possible to bundle the kids up and take them on the bus?

TooLate · 17/08/2006 17:54

No after hours doc, would have to go to hospital and can't do that with the kids.

Will just have to wait until morning and ring doctors first thing.

What are the chances of getting preg 9 days after first day of last period, does anyone know ??

themoon66 · 17/08/2006 18:05

You can get it now... tonight. Go to your local A&E dept and ask for it. Its contraceptive so therefore free.

I know coz i've had to do that twice in the last year At my age you'd think i'd have been more careful LOL

themoon66 · 17/08/2006 18:07

And I would say 9 days after your last period is very high risk. I got pregnant with DS 3 days after my period. Take the kids with you to A&E - gooooo

nightowl · 17/08/2006 18:29

i think the coil is five days if you could have that fitted?

nightowl · 17/08/2006 18:30

up to i mean

liquidclocks · 17/08/2006 19:32

Go to a&e - yes inconvenient for one night, but measuring up against prospect of a new baby- no contest! Morning after pill effective up to 72hrs, but the sooner you get it the better - and much less hassle than getting a coil.

BernieBear · 17/08/2006 20:59

Its free from a chemist which provides it. I went in armed with change scavenged from everywhere, only to be told it is now free on NHS. I phoned them before I went, so that I could check they had it first and also didn't have to explain in front of everyone when I got there. Just said...I phoned you this morning....etc. Good luck, I feel for you, it is such a panicky time. {hugs}

JennT · 17/08/2006 21:59

Levonelle is only free in chemists that are participating in a special scheme AND there is a trained pharmacist on duty, otherwise it costs about £24. It's free if you can get a prescription for it.

Levonelle is most effective if taken within 24 hours, but still effective up to 72 hours (3 days) so you will still be able to take it tommorrow.

Getting a coil fitted is possible up to 5 days after intercourse.

Not all A&E depts give out Levonelle so check before you go.

Good luck

Blondilocks · 17/08/2006 22:13

I think it was £22 when I went with my friend who bought it. She was nervous about buying it in case they were judging, which is silly really.

Blu · 17/08/2006 22:16

No out of hours Dr? Your GP practice doesn't give you a number to ring if you need a Dr once surgery is closed? Blimey, I thought that was a standard part of the cover.

DS is a day 10 baby.

7up · 17/08/2006 22:19

9days after period, quite likely youre pregnant i would have thought.did you fall easily with your other children?
