Can anyone put their finger on what these symptoms could be?? :-(

Blood pressure something over 120, second reading something over 100 - (checked today).

Banging headache since Monday. Paracetamol makes no difference.

Slight sicky feeling but not being sick, no stomach upset.

Achey eyeballs.

Extreme tiredness.

No sign of cold or stuffiness.

Any ideas??? tia

Tension, Stress, Anxiety? Most of these could cause all of those symptoms?

Sorry, not much help!

Perhaps phone NHS Direct or go to docs if worried?

Are you pregnant? If so, see a M/W ASAP.

If not, you could have a headache because your BP is on the high side?

Been to docs who said I need my BP rechecking in a week or so as it was quite high.

I am not stressed (more than I usually am with 5 kids!!), am always fit, healthy, never ill and I feel knocked for 6 this week.

If I didn't know better I would liken these symptoms especially the extreme tiredness to ealry pregnancy.

A virus (sorry, that's what all GPs say isn't it) can leave you feeling totally wiped out. Not sure it would affect the blood pressure, though. Maybe get some blood tests off your GP if it doesn't settle.

if you aren't pregnant, GP friend of ours had a nasty viral headachy thing a few weeks back (but have no idea if it affected his BP)

The BP reading could have been due to "white coat" anxiety I guess.

This headache is doing me in enough 4 days later, but the tiredness is crippling. I've been going to bed around 9 - 10pm, sleeping til about 8 - 9am then needing to sleep for an hour or so in the afternoon.

GP said to take paracetamol, come back for a BP check in a week and if no better by then she will check for glandular fever. Could be a virus - but isn't that what they all say?

Headache is in my eyes, if that makes sense but also feels like I have a very tight band around my head squeezing really tight. Last night it hurt so much it woke me up and I almost cried with the pain of it.

God I sound like a wuss.

it's not say specifically in your temples (side of head)?

I had v swollen glands when I got gland fever so I wonder if there would be other symptoms if it was that?

I would go back sooner than a week if you still feel rubbish - in fact, I'd be tempted to go back tomorrow, esp if you have anymore problems with your eyes. Have you got any Syndol? Tis v good for banging headaches.

I'd second syndol, great stuff - and drink plenty fluid in case you're slightly dehydrated. Sounds awful, I hate headaches.

So does high BP cause a headache that would last for this long?

I don't fit the criteria for high BP though, I don't smoke, drink, use lots of salt - I am active, fit etc so bit sceptical about this as an answer.

Maybe it is the virusy thing?
GP did say my throat looked very slightly pink which is pretty inconclusive to me. Temp is fine.

Would I feel like this if I was pregnant? eeek!

High bp gives me tremendous headaches, I only getit when I'm preggers.

you'll have to get a test!

you wouldn't necessarily 'feel' high BP - is there any family history of heart/stroke problems?

however, a headache, sore eyes and high BP would prob send 'warning' signals to the doc which is why I would go back sooner rather than later if you continue to feel unwell

NONE of that means you are immune to developing the disease hypertension.

Hypertension is closely related to the development of heart disease, which kills more women than breast cancer yearly.

It is called 'the silent killer' b/c it's often hard to detect and can be entirely symptomless.

Overweight can contribute to its development, no matter how fit or active a person is.

Whilst stress can exacerbate hypertension, it's entirely possible to have hypertension and be an incredily laid-back person w/little stress in life.

My father has been dealing w/hypertension since he was 42 - he's now 70. His first symptom was a headache that would NOT go away.

PLEASE do NOT rule out hypertension and see your GP immediately. That bottom number on your BP measurement is on the high side, and that number is the more critical of the two.

expat I have seen my gp. It's not like me to be unwell. She did 2 readings - the first was something over 120, the second was something over 100.

She said come back in a week if I still felt the same and she would send me for blood test for glandular fever.

this can be tricky to diagnose in a woman especially. she should have referred you for continuous monitoring. sporadic readings aren't enough.

in fact it can be hard to diagnose in a man, even. my dad went through even brain scans before they twigged that he might have hypertension. a 24-hour monitor picked it up.

my dad has tremendous problems w/sore eyes related to his hypertension. one time, he'd been switched to generic medication w/o his awareness - he gets them delivered to his home in white bottles every three months and was just happily popping them.

he started having sore eyes and thought it was time for new glasses.

the eye doctor called an ambulance. his bp had gone so high his optic nerve was under extreme pressure.

don't let this lie, QE!

any lower number over 100 is NOT a good sign.

FWIW, I had glandular fever.

I didn't have a sore head. I had a low grade fever.

I did have headaches with g fever but that wasn't the main symptom (which was dreadful tonsilitis, overwhelming tiredness - like can't get out of bed at all tiredness - and monstrous glands!).

I'm afraid I agree with expat. I really would go back tomorrow if there is no sign of improvement.

They put the monitor on in hospital and you go home and go on about your business.

Nowadays, it has a little pack the size of an iPod attached to it that's taking readings.

Ok, gp looked in my eyes, felt all round my sinuses and my glands, took my temp, looked at my throat and did 2 reading of my BP. She's called me back for a bp check in a week.

She did say bp could have been high due to "white coat stress" which I know can happen. She said I may have a virus and to see how it goes.

I have recently changed gp and I know that my old gp would have at least sent me for a blood test to check my iron.

Feel like I have wasted my time going to gp really.

White coat syndrome. Persistent headache w/eye pressure and fatigue. NO other problems.

Yeah, I'd say you wasted your time.

Call them back and rattle their chain.
