Does anyone fancy a general healthy eating / tone up sort of regime?

I want to improve my diet and generally have more energy - anyone feel like joining me? I was thinking along the lines of doing some sort of exercise every day, even if only 10 mins, and not dieting or anything, but eating lots of fruit and veg.

I will join you as long as nothing too vigorous am too fat and feeling pg again now..lol Need to stop eating as much choccie..ds puts me to shame

cosmicdancer · 07/08/2006 20:19

I will join you as well - I don't like dieting because it makes me think about food all the time but I could do with eating a bit more healthily. Can I start tomorrow though as I'v egot my chocolate supply in for tonight.

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 20:21

Nothing vigorous unless you want it to be, just some form of proper exercise each day - I mean it could be yoga, or whatever, and lots of good food. I was thinking 10 portions a day of fruit and veg, what do you think?

You can eat chocolate as well, you just have to eat the fruit and veg first

10 portions is a lot, but I'm willing to give it a try - will definately have to be tomorrow though Franny as I'm so stuffed with choccy I couldn't even eat ONE portion.

Quootiepie · 07/08/2006 20:59

ill join anything me

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 21:02

Yes Quootiepie it's possibly a case of the Groucho Marx quote about not wanting to join a club that would have you as a member

Yes 10 is a lot. But there's no point doing it and not eating a lot, is there? How many do you normally eat? Will we all get the squits? (could be a problem as my drains are knackered already)

OP posts:
cosmicdancer · 07/08/2006 21:18

I go through phases really.

Sometimes I eat loads of fruit (not so much veg) and other times I hardly eat any.

I don't mind getting the squits for a few days if it shifts a few pounds - quite looking forward to it actually.

good luck to everyone

Pandorasjarboy · 07/08/2006 21:27

Sounds grand!

How does it work? Are we doing synchronised eating ?( and squiting? - is that what I fear it is??? )

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 21:30

Erm, let me think of some rules

Erm, what shall we call it?

I have lost momentum now tbh, give me some enthusiasm here

I don't do diets but have just hunted out my old yoga book.....
want to try to do 10 minutes a day
and i ought to eat more healthily and cut down on caffeine

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 21:32

And it is NOT about losing weight per se

just trying to eat better and get more energy

some people would probably lose weight as a side effect

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 07/08/2006 21:33

naah I just want to eat lard on toast and lie on the sofa

popsycal · 07/08/2006 21:33

son't wat to lose weight really - just do something good for myself

sansouci · 07/08/2006 21:34

The Warning is on every thread? I'm appalled.

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 21:35

Ok I think we should start another thread with a sprauncey name

post our goals

eg to do at least x mins exercise each day, or to go swimming twice a week, or to eat x portions of fruit and veg each day, or whatever you want to do

it has to be enjoyable, nothing that will make you miserable or deprived, it's about feeling better and enjoying life more, not resticting yourself or punishing yourself

Then I think we should just post and say how we are getting on, what we have done, how we feel etc

What do you think?

OP posts:
cosmicdancer · 07/08/2006 21:38

I think keep it simple. Like you said in the OP

  1. 10 mins or more of any excercise

  2. 10 portions of fruit and veg

then no-one can complain that it's too complicated. The hard part will be sticking to it. Makes it a lot easier that we can stil have chocolate though .

We could call it the 10/10 club or something or rate ourselves out of 10 at the end of the day. Today I would be 1/10 but tomorrow will be better.

CountessDracula · 07/08/2006 21:44

(I don't really I am on WW)

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 21:46

The thing about the 10 mins exercise is that I reckon once you get going you will do more, probably, because it does feel good and is fun. Getting started is the hardest bit, don't you think? But if you think "Oh I'll just do 10 minutes" then it isn't so daunting.

Ok, I like the 10 / 10 thing. I don't think we should rate ourselves but the name is quite good.

Shall I start the thread and you can sign in when you want to and start posting about how you're doing?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 21:47

Or how about the Perfect 10 club?

OP posts:
Pandorasjarboy · 07/08/2006 21:49

I am definitely up for this ( as well as the squitting bit, he said innocently).

10/10 sounds great.

Do fruit smoothies count as many for each piece of friut therein?

Yes she sounds like Cruella...

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 21:51

I think smoothies are like fruit juice, only meant to count for 1 portion of your total per day, because it is 'processed' fruit rather than the whole fruit with all the fibre etc in.

OP posts:
Pandorasjarboy · 07/08/2006 21:54

Sorry, I mean making your very own in a wizzy machine - all the fruit and nothing but the fruit....

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2006 22:40

Yes, sure, but the most fibrous parts are processed out by a juicer. You know all that fuzzy stuff left on the mesh at the end - it's that. Some people use that bit as well, but the other thing is that the fruit is being processed by the juicer, not by your body. It's still good for you, and you get the vitamins and so on, but a large part of the health benefits of eating fruit is down to the fibre.
