heart palpitations

Hi all
Im46&have been having these every day,more than once aday,for the past7days!
ive had them before about7yrs ago&i had a24hr ecg which i had to wear whereihad to press a button eachtome it happend
They said all was normal&put it down to stress as i was workkng in a cafe/bakery at the time&walking to work
It went away after a while&ionly felt itevery so often
But now these last few days its come back with a vemgeamce&with it i get an aching/pain&a feeljng of pressure on my chest
Ive recently been diagnosed with ostroartritis which i have to have physio for.plus i have ibs&am having investigations done for bleeding in between periods
I MAY be perimenopausal!
Should i go bk to gp?ive never seen them so much in my life!
Also today ive been out shopping&just before i came home i had a really bad pain in my left arm pit.it lasted bout5min or so then went but made me feel bit odd
Imhome now&palpitations are there again but not aa bad

Most definately perimenopausal! I'm 38 and perimenopausal, so you being 46, you most certainly are. I suffer from palpitations too, mostly at night. A couple of weeks ago i had a very bad attack of palpitations, my heart felt as if it would burst out of my chest! I was so scared that i called an ambulance! You mention the bleeding between periods, that sounds very much like a menopausal symptom. I have irregular periods too. Go back to your doctor and ask for some hormone blood tests. These will tell you if you have entered perimenopause. Good luck

Perimenopause quite possible. I am 49 and have had palps (and sometimes ectopic beats) for years. Mine were worse until my underactive thyroid was picked up and treated. Doc said you get them when Hyper not Hypo thyroid but certainly with me there is a link, so get your thyroid checked too.

Erilou iasked gp to do blood tests when these imvestigtions started but she doesnt think itll be necessary!ive also heard from other ppl that theyre notreliable for perimeno as yr hormone level can change throughout the day
Hellymelly i did have thyroid chkd along with vitamin&mineral levels last yr/yr before&all was normal!

Yes that is true, as I had an overactive Thyroid and terrible palpitations. On treatment I went underactive but never had them then. But some people do not conform to the standard symptoms.
And yes, to a woman's hormones changing during the day and days.

DD Had an early perimenopause, and they tested her FSH which was too high - struggling to ovulate, however, her oestragen was normal. Not long afterwards her next test showed a reduced oestragen and she was having hot flushes at night and during the day.
FSH is the Folicular Stimulating Hormone. You could have that tested.

Baby,

I think most are missing the point here. Irregular heart beat plus pain and pressure could be symptoms of heart attack, get it checked out as a matter of urgency. Personally, I would favour A&E, but if that is too dramatic for you, then get an urgent appointment with your GP.

Missed the pain and pressure in your chest, although it could be wind.

I think NHS Direct would advise A&E to be on the safe side.

It also could be a panic attack but better a 9 lead ECG and maybe an echo to confirm, rather than the collective mn wisdom at a distance ( excellent though it is)!

I'm only 36 and have had ectopics and skipped beats for years. Finally had an echo just this weekend. I will say they have never been accompanied by any pain or shortness of breath although my cardiologist has said it is possible to feel pain with them. In my case they are totally benign and 99% of the time they are.

However whenever they become more frequent or change they should always be investigated and like others have said get thee to a doctor asap. I've ended up in a&e in the past and they would rather see you than not.I would head over now if you are still experiencing pain.

Ive had a couple of very light ones this morn but thats it&am actually feeling quite good at mo!
ive walked up to school&got lift back
The pain/discomfort comes with the palitations&discomfort/heavy feeling stays wiyh me for a while after then goes
i also had upper back/shoulder ache on left side yest for a while which again went eventually.I have none of this in between times really
Ive got2happy family days planned today&tomorow when alot of us are gathering for my eldest dds
birthday.
So havent done anything about it yet&dont want to spoil these plans

babyjane I would really get to a gp as soon as you can. While the pain and discomfort in your upper back could likely be tension and stress, it can also be related to the heart. It's likely nothing but if I were you I still would not delay so long before getting checked out.

Ive managed to get an app to see my usual gp on tues morn so will let you know what happens

Well ive been to the gp today.
She took my bp which was normal&listened to myheart which had normal sounds
She asked me to make anothet app for blood tests chking thyroid,electrolites etc&for an ecg which is2wks today
She said if that shows nothing then gotta have24hr ecg
She also said that if in the meantime i get it again with chest pain lasting20mins like happened the other night ive gotta go straight to a&e for emergency ecg!
She said you cant ignore chest pain!
So thats as far as weve git so far

Mine does that, I got SVT before my thyroid was diagnosed as under active and if my dose is too low I get SVT. But I'm 'that patient' my psoriasis gets worse in the sun not better, and I get it on the internal joint surfaces not the external.

Yes sashh, I can tell if my thyroid function is dipping as my palpitations get worse.

Had my bloods taken today which ive gotta fone thurs for results of
Also had ecg done which nurse said was normal but my rhythum was slightly out.think she called it an arythmia though not entirely sure!lol
Couldnt see gp as shes out but shes put onmy notes that shes already referred me to cardiologist which is prob for the24hr ecg
Of course the plpitations didnt happen while ecg was being done!typical!
I told her i did have a bad day yest with them.had them on&off all day&for solid hr continuouslywhich made me feel bit weird
I didnt go to a&e though as dp at work,dd at school&no way of getting there
She told me off a bit as my gp has put it on my notea to go to a&e when it gets like that!
Its difficult though

Keep us posted. I've had the 48 hr trace thing. Was meant to have one for 7 days but I reacted badly to the sticky pads so couldn't continue.

So what happened if you couldnt do the test?

Well they felt that they probably had enough info from the 48 hrs. But there was no alternative anyway, as I came up in large red swollen itchy rings where the pads were stuck, even though I moved them about a bit.

So they put it down to thyroid with you?
The nurse told me she'd had palps in the past&hers was anaemia
When they did the tests apparently they asked how she was still standing!
